En Lágrimas en la lluvia (2011) de Rosa Montero, mientras la detective tecnohumana Bruna Husky investiga un complot para exterminar los replicantes del Madrid del siglo XXII, se despliega un estudio profundo sobre qué es la identidad. Se presentan en la novela varias teorías de la identidad personal, con divergentes posturas sobre los estados mentales y emocionales, las memorias personales, la pervivencia corporal, la esencia espiritual y la posibilidad de la existencia del alma. Bruna paulatinamente llega a aceptar que su identidad surge de un proceso performativo. No es que los pensamientos, actos y sentimientos pertenecen a un yo preexistente (como dirían Reid y Locke), sino que lo constituyen a ese yo y así a la persona. Bruna aprende que ella también puede ser el artista de su propia vida (como lo ha sido Pablo Nopal, el arquitecto se sus memorias postizas). Al final, se da cuenta de que su vida es una verdadera obra de arte con ella misma sirviendo de artista, y de que al andar se hace camino. Su identidad es una identidad performativa, y su mejor acto es amar.

The preface paradox is the apparent pragmatic inconsistency that occurs when the author of a book declares in its preface that despite believing that it is highly probable that everything the book maintains is true it is also highly probable that the book contains at least some errors. The preface paradox has often been presented as an example of a logically inconsistent belief that it is nevertheless rational to accept, supporting the suggestion that rationality has nothing immediately to do with avoiding formal logical inconsistency in one’s beliefs. In contrast with complicated received solutions, I explain a simple method of avoiding inconsistency in preface paradox assertions by indexing the two claims to distinct probability or justification sources, referencing in the first case the conscientious efforts to eliminate errors and in the second case the chagrin of past experience in discovering previously unsuspected errors in published writings. The solution thereby helps preserve the concept of rationality as logical consistency of belief, and avoids the conclusion that the preface paradox proves that it is sometimes rational to accept logically inconsistent beliefs.

Each the state Championship tournament attracts anglers to a competitive event in which participants seek to catch the largest cumulative weight of bass over two days. This article describes an assessment of the economic impact in Osceola County associated with the State Championship tournament. El contraste que habitualmente se establece entre el Utilitarismo y la teoría de la virtud queda en entredicho en este ensayo. El Utilitarismo puede encamar cualquier conducta, ya que implica que deberíamos mentir, engañar, robar y aun apropiamos de Aristóteles, si con ello vamos a ocasionar los mejores resultados. En algunas situaciones y en algunos mundos posibles, lo mejor se obtendría centrándonos en los rasgos de carácter. El Cambio Medioambiental Global nos lleva al estudio de los caracteres, puesto que en este caso los mejores resultados se obtienen, generalmente, al disociar nuestro comportamiento del de los demás. Por ello, en este caso y en este mundo, los utilitaristas deberían ser teóricos de la virtud.
