Introduction: Soy drinks are an increasingly consumed option within the Western diet. However, there are concerns about potential endocrine disruptor effects and possible impact on women's reproductive health. This review evaluates scientific documents in gynecology and obstetrics under an evidence-based medicine approach. All methods adhered to PRISMA 2020 declaration guidelines. The evaluated studies do not support a positive association between soy intake and early puberty or breast cancer; instead, a protective effect against such neoplasm was observed. Transplacental passage of soy isoflavones and their presence in breast milk has been reported without any maternal-fetal complications nor congenital malformations. Exposure to soy-derived products appears to have a neutral effect on body weight and bone health. Studies performed in adults indicate that soy may promote a minimal increase in thyrotropin (TSH) in subjects with subclinical hypothyroidism. The impact of soy-based foods on gut microbiota appears favorable, especially when consuming fermented products. Many of the human studies have been conducted with isoflavones supplements, isolated or textured soy proteins. Therefore, the results and conclusions should be interpreted cautiously, as these are not entirely applicable to commercial soy beverages.

The incidence of urethral stenosis in Mexico had not been documented. At the Centro Médico Nacional La Raza, during the year 2010, 629 patients with urethral stenosis were attended as outpatient consultation: 85 % with previous urethral stenosis and 15 % with urethral treatment complication. Urethral stenosis is a chronic illness, with multiple etiological origins and the handling is controversial. It has a great negative impact for the patients and the recurrence reaches 85 %. The treatment consisted of an invasive approach (urethral dilations, endoscopy procedure) and open surgery (urethroplasty). The World Health Organization and World Alliance take the world challenge about the urinary tract infections associated with the attention of patients, focused on urethral stenosis. The objective of the following clinical guide is to offer to the health professional a clinical tool for making decisions in the handling of the hardship or masculine urethral stenosis, based on the best available evidence, carrying out in systematized form with bibliographical research using validated terms of the MeSH: urethral structures, in the databases Trip database, PubMed, Guideline Clearinghouse, Cochrane Library and Ovid.

The necrotizing scleritis and recurrent erythema nodosum, two clinical entities difficult to diagnose and which represent a challenge to the physician. Tuberculosis produces both processes by an immune reaction of delayed hypersensitivity type IV to various antigenic components of mycobacteria. Most tuberculosis patients have no ocular history of pulmonary or systemic disease in up to 50 % and no evidence of pathology in the chest radiograph. An adequate treatment leads to a favorable prognosis. It occurs when the diagnosis of infection is made on time. We describe the case of a woman with necrotizing scleritis associated with recurrent erythema nodosum secondary to infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex.

Before nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are indicated, risk factors such as age, the use of other drugs potentially harmful to the gastrointestinal tract, smoking, and concomitant use of aspirin should be evaluated, to select the most appropriate option for each patient and determine the need for gastroprotective therapy. Because of the possibility of cardiovascular risk posed by COX-2 selective NSAIDs, cardiovascular risk factors should also be analyzed in each patient before starting treatment of this type, mainly bearing in mind that the protective effect of COX-2 selective NSAIDs is substantially reduced in patients taking aspirin., (Copyright © 2006 Elsevier España S.L.
