Background: An alert value is a result suggesting that the patient is at imminent danger unless appropriate remedial actions begin promptly. Report of alert values (AV) by the clinical laboratories has taken special relevance in recent years due to its contribution to patient's care. Aim: To report results of AV informed during 2007 within the Health Network of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Material and methods: Analysis of AV recorded in a centralized database of the laboratories of the health network, between January and December, 2007. Results: Total number of AV was 5.366, which represented 0.3% of total examinations and corresponded mainly to the clinical chemistry area. Potassium levels generated the higher number of AV detected, followed by positive blood cultures. Eighty two percent of AV corresponded to hospitalized patients. The greater number of AV was reported to intermediate and intensive care services. Thirty two percent of AV was informed to the physician or professional in charge of the patient within 5 minutes of obtaining the results and 79% within 30 minutes. Conclusions: To obtain a real impact on patient management, it is fundamental to shorten the ¡apse between the obtainment of tests results and the warning, supported on appropriate computerized systems, and to spread the procedure to all personnel involved in patient's care (RevMéd Chile 2009; 137: 1137-44).

- Abstract
Estas diferencias tampoco resultaron estadísticamente significativas (p =1) Background: The acute recurrent tonsillitis is a frequent pathology, and it is one of the indications of tonsillectomy. The origen of this pathology is not well known. Aim: To identify the microbiology and susceptibility patterns of bacteria to antimicrobics of common use in acute recurrent bacterial tonsillitis (ARBT). Methods: A prospective, controlled and blind study was planned. Patients ("Cases") with history of ARBT of surgical indication were evaluated. Inclusion criteria were the following: children of both sexes, between 4 and 10 years old, without immunodeficiency history, not receiving antibiotics for 15 days prior to surgery. "Controls" were defined as patients presenting with sleep apnea with surgical indication, without a history of ARBT or tonsillitis-suggesting symptoms for the past 6 months. In all patients the same technique was used to obtain a tissue sample for culture and antibiogram. For the sensibility study an antibiogram of the isolated strains was carried out and the presence of beta lactamases was evaluated. The data was analyzed using the S-plus software for univariate analysis. To evaluate proportions, the chi-square or the Fischer test were used. Continue variables were evaluated with the Wilcoxon Two Sample test. Results: There were no statistically significant differences in the strains found in Cases as compared to Controls. The most frequently found bacteria was Haemophilus influenzae In 26 samples of each group (81%), followed by S. Aureus andSBHGA. As to the more frequents pathogen associations, they were H. influenzae + S. aureus and H. influenzae+ SBHGA. Similarly, there were no statistically significant differences in the frequence of these associations between the SBHGA group and Controls. As for beta lactamases production, it was found that 7% of the Haemophilus influenzae strains of ARBT patients were beta lactamases (+). Among patients with tonsil hyperplasia, 12% of this bacteria strains were beta lactamase (+). These differences were not statistically significant (p=1)

- Abstract
Objective.: Motivation for the study. Despite the prevalence of ASD, research in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is scarce in Peru. Main findings. Of 120 children with a previous diagnosis of ASD, only 9.8% received inclusive education. The median age at diagnosis was 3.83 years. We also found that 78.4% had no disability certificate and 77.5% had incomplete psychological evaluation. The median time since the last physical, occupational, and speech therapy sessions was 3 months, 8 months, and 3.5 months, respectively. Implications. These findings highlight the need to enhance early diagnosis, inclusive education, and evaluation and subsequent certification of disability, as well as to establish more timely interventions. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by developmental disorders, difficulties in social interaction and communication, and restrictive and repetitive patterns of behavior. Despite its high prevalence, few studies have been conducted in rehabilitation settings. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of children with ASD from the Pediatric Rehabilitation Service of the Rebagliati Hospital (SRP-HNERM)., Materials and Methods.: Cross-sectional descriptive study. We reviewed the medical records of children under 14 years of age previously diagnosed with ASD from the SRP-HNERM during 2022., Results.: A total of 120 children with ASD were evaluated. The median age was 5 years. Most received regular education, but it was inclusive only for 9.8%. The mean age at diagnosis was 3.83 years. We found that 78.4% had no disability certificate and 77.5% of the participants had incomplete psychological evaluation. The median time since the last physical, occupational and speech therapy sessions was 3, 8 and 3.5 months respectively., Conclusion.: The mean age at diagnosis of ASD was older than three years, and more than 75% of the patients had neither a disability certificate nor a complete psychological evaluation. The median time since the last rehabilitation therapy sessions was three months or more. Our findings highlight the need to improve early diagnosis, inclusive education and evaluation and subsequent certification of disability, as well as to establish timely interventions.

- Abstract
Introduction: The implementation of courses related to environmental health in undergraduate curricula favors the formation of physicians more committed to the impact of climate change on health. The aim of the study was to identify the prevalence of environmental health courses in Peruvian medical schools, as well as their comparison with air quality levels for each region of the country., Methods: A descriptive study was carried out. We searched the web page of the National Superintendence of University Higher Education (SUNEDU) of Peru and selected those universities with registered human medicine faculties. We analyzed whether they included in their curriculum a course related to environmental medicine and compared it with the levels of air quality (particulate matter) for each region., Results: Of 41 medical schools included, 26 (63.4%) of them included a course related to environmental health in their curriculum, and 2 (7.7%) of them included it as an optional course. Of the regions with a moderate/bad air quality index, 63% have medical schools with lecture courses on environmental medicine., Conclusions: It is necessary to standardize the methodology, contents and teaching resources, as well as the study of relevant topics such as climate change, in addition to its integration with the other courses of the medical career given the importance of environmental health in the different regions of Peru, (Universidad Nacional de Córdoba)
