Resumen: El presente ensayo indaga acerca de las raíces de la educación montessoriana, pionera de concepciones holistas. Como resultado, se evidencia que únicamente puede ser abordada desde un paradigma de la complejidad y del compromiso con el destino de la humanidad. Solo una comprensión más amplia de su teleología, antropología y epistemología, nos proporcionará la perspectiva que permita integrar estas dimensiones. Con una introducción que parte de la primera costarricense en poner en práctica su filosofía, la preclara Carmen Lyra, se aborda la multi-texualidad, complejidad y trasdisciplinareidad de Montessori, así como sus contingencias y su época, indagación necesaria para sopesar su necesidad hoy.Abstract: A search for Montessori’s roots concludes that an authentic Montessori education, pioneer in holistic conceptions, can only be addressed from a paradigm of complexity, a Transdisciplinary perspective, and an attitude of compromise with the destiny of humanity. Only an all-encompassing understanding of her teleology, anthropology, and epistemology will provide a perspective to integrate these dimensions. In relating Montessori’s circumstances and life-experiences, a parallel is made to the challenges faced by the first practicing Montessorian in Costa Rica, Carmen Lyra, educator, writer, activist, and founding-member of the Costa Rican Communist Party. Montessori’s multi-texuality, contingencies and the quotidien are addressed in an effort to outline her relevance today.

Este artículo describe los efectos del desplazamiento en los vínculos socioespaciales asociados al cambio de ambiente residencial en personas desplazadas de la ciudad de Chaitén, a consecuencia de la erupción del volcán del mismo nombre. Se aplicaron 144 cuestionarios a hombres y mujeres que actualmente habitan en distintas localidades en las provincias de Palena y Llanquihue. Se midieron los niveles de Apego de lugar e Identidad de lugar en relación a su barrio pasado y actual; y el Sentido de Comunidad, la Participación Cívica y la Satisfacción Residencial, en las escalas de barrio y ciudad actuales. Los resultados muestran diferencias en los niveles de Apego de lugar e Identidad de lugar en relación a su barrio de origen y actual; niveles medios de sentido de comunidad, bajos de participación y medios en Satisfacción Residencial en relación a su barrio actual. Se discuten las implicancias psicoambientales de los aspectos físicos y sociales de la experiencia residencial en los procesos de desplazamiento. This article describes the effects of displacement on sociospatial bonds, associated with the change of residential environment in displaced persons from the city of Chaitén, as a result of the eruption of the volcano of the same name. 144 questionnaires were applied to men and women who currently live in different towns in the provinces of Llanquihue and Palena. Levels of place attachment and place identity were measured relative to its past and present neighborhood; sense of community, civic participation and Residential Satisfaction, on scales of current city and neighborhood. The results show differences in levels of place attachment and place identity in relation to their neighborhood of origin and current; medium levels of sense of community, low of participation and medium of Residential Satisfaction, in relation to its current neighborhood. Psycho-environmental implications about the physical and social aspects of residential experience in displacement processes are discussed.

La relación socio-espacial de personas y comunidades se ve afectada por procesos de desplazamientos a causa de desastres socio-naturales. A partir de experiencias de la comunidad disgregada de Chaitén por la erupción del volcán Chaitén y la que se mantuvo unida en Constitución después del terremoto de 2010, se exploró cómo los procesos vividos inciden en niveles de apego e identidad de lugar, así como sentido de comunidad y participación. Las comunidades estudiadas presentan diferentes vínculos espaciales y relacionales con respecto a su barrio de origen y actual. Las diferencias presentadas evidencian que vínculos comunitarios como aspectos psicológicos deben ser considerados centrales en la elaboración e implementación de estrategias para desplazamientos o reconstrucción. Se encuestó a un total de 224 personas. Socio spatial relationships of people and communities are affected by processes of displacement due to socio-natural disasters. Based on the experiences of the disintegrated community of Chaitén by the eruption of the Chaitén volcano and the community which remained united in Constitution after the earthquake of 2010, this research explores how the experienced processes affect levels of place identity and place attachment, as well as in sense of community and participation. The studied communities express different spatial and relational links with their origin and actual neighborhood. Differences evidence that community bonds and psychological aspects must be considered as central in the development and implementation of displacement or reconstruction strategies post disasters. The survey considered a total of 224 individuals.

This survey presents the results of a questionnaire sent to a list of key scholars and professionals in fields related to urban processes and planning – town planning, geography, sociology, architecture and anthropology. The survey raised four simple, straightforward questions. What are the most pressing conflicts with regard to contemporary cities? What are the main fields of action for solving them? How can your discipline contribute with respect to this task? Could you mention an intervention that could serve as an example of that line of work? The response represents a plural and multidisciplinary perspective on contemporary urban issues from which a series of research and intervention perspectives emerges.

The present article proposes a discussion regarding efforts of the Montessori community to offer resistance to the prevailing utilitarian and capitalistic entourage that Montessori herself so criticized. It addresses related questions: what are some of her legacies to the early education movement? How does the Montessori community attend to present dilemmas and their own development as communities of learning? It is concluded that Montessorians approach a variety of areas of concern, in spite of the diametrical difference between practices, whereby only the Montessori name and materials may be utilized. The current relevance and urgency of Montessori practices is stressed, together with the need for conceptual clarity from a paradigm of complexity. Se esboza una indagación sobre la coherencia del movimiento montessoriano en torno a temas sensibles debidos al choque sistémico entre propuestas Montessorianas y el sistema capitalista al cual tanto se contrapone. Se plantean interrogantes entretejidas: ¿Cuáles son algunos de sus aportes para la educación inicial? ¿Cómo se expresa la comunidad montessoriana sobre dilemas actuales y sobre su propio desarrollo como comunidad? Se concluye haciendo énfasis en la multidiversidad de campos de incursión, así como en la diferencia diametral entre sus prácticas, cuando se reduce a la utilización de su nombre y materiales. Se destaca la relevancia y urgencia actual de elementos estructurales de sus propuestas y prácticas, así como la necesidad de un enfoque desde la complejidad.

In Spain, the birth of interest in the nation’s industrial heritage dates from the nation industrial heritage dates frojm the 198s and occurred alongside the process of deindustrialization. Policies concerning derelict industrial sites have shifted gradually from destruction to preservation, rehabilitation, and enhancement, and industrial heritage enhancement projects are now widespread in the country. However, a clear mismatching has arisen between institutional and academic initiatives and local communities, which exhibit widespread disinterest in or even rejection of industrial remains. This problematic situation can be related to the utilization of industrial heritage as an economic resource without paying much attention to its connections with memory and identity. Also, the mismatching is due to a positivist approach to industrial heritage whereby the monument and the museum are prioritized. We argue that projects which consider industrial remains as part of cultural landscapes might shorten the gap between the institutional and economic side of industrial heritage and its identity-building and popular facets.

Los estudios en torno a la satisfacción vital sugieren que ésta se relaciona con numerosas variables psicosociales. El presente trabajo pretende indagar en las relaciones con variables menos consideradas hasta ahora; en concreto, se pretende analizar los niveles de apego al lugar e identidad con el lugar (residencia), participación y satisfacción vital en vecinos de un barrio, así como comprobar las diferencias entre inmigrantes y autóctonos; analizar las relaciones entre esas cuatro variables; y predecir la satisfacción vital a partir de las otras tres variables. La muestra total es de 307 participantes, 156 autóctonos y 151 inmigrantes. Los resultados indican que los niveles en participación e identidad con el lugar son mayores en autóctonos. Se comprueba que existen diferentes modelos de predicción de la satisfacción con la vida en autóctonos y en inmigrantes: la identidad con el lugar predice el 4.6% de la satisfacción vital en autóctonos, y la identidad con el lugar y participación social predicen el 16.3% en inmigrantes. Estas variables, junto a otras ya reconocidas, podrían constituir un modelo explicativo de la satisfacción vital más sólido para inmigrantes. Previous research on life satisfaction suggests that it is related to many pysco-social variables. The present study aims to investigate the relation of life satisfaction with other variables which have been less studied up until now. The objective is to analyze attachment and identity of place of residence, and participation and life satisfaction shown by neighbours in a quarter, and to check differences between immigrants and natives. Furthermore, the relationship among these variables will be analyzed and life satisfaction will be predicted from the remaining three variables. The complete study involved 307 participants, including 156 natives and 152 immigrants. The results show differences between both groups in community participation and identity of place (higher levels in natives). In immigrants, 16.3% of satisfaction is predicted by identity of place and social participation, while 4.6% of satisfaction in natives is predicted by identity of place. These and some other previously recognized variables could constitute a more solid explicative model for life satisfaction in immigrants.
