El carbón activado es un material utilizado industrialmente en adsorción de gases, filtrados, limpieza de líquidos y como soporte para catalizadores en medios no oxidantes. Además tiene varias aplicaciones ambientales como en la adsorción de iones metálicos de plomo. El objetivo de este trabajo fue la obtención de carbones activados carbonizando biomasa de caña de azúcar a 400°C en atmósfera de nitrógeno, activando con ácido fosfórico y oxidando con ácido nítrico o peróxido de hidrógeno seguido de tratamiento térmico. La preparación de carbones activados a partir de residuos agrícolas está desarrollándose con excelentes resultados potencialmente aplicables. Bajo este contexto, se muestra un método de preparación mediante activación química con ácido fosfórico, la cual aumentó el contenido de carbono y disminuyó el de oxígeno, seguidamente con el objeto de estudiar el desarrollo del área superficial se somete a proceso de oxidación con calentamiento térmico. Los carbones obtenidos fueron caracterizados mediante análisis proximal y para la determinación de los grupos funcionales oxigenados se utilizó la espectroscopia infrarroja de reflectancia difusa-transformada de Fourier. La determinación de grupos oxigenados básicos y ácidos se realizó por el método Boehm. Para la medición del área superficial se utilizó el método BET. El área de microporos se incrementó por el tratamiento con HNO3 y H2O2 desde 278 m²/g hasta 402 y 446m²/g, respectivamente. La mayor parte del área en los carbones se debió a los microporos. El pH de los carbones fue aproximadamente de tres y los grupos COOH alcanzaron valores hasta 2,12meq/g. Activated charcoal is a material used in industry for absorbing gases and filtrates, cleansing liquids as well as for supporting catalysts in non-oxidative media. In addition, it is utilized in several environmental applications, such as in the absorption of metal lead ions. The objective of this work was the obtainment of activated charcoals by carbonizing sugarcane biomass at 400°C in a nitrogen atmosphere through activation with phosphoric acid and by oxidization with nitric acid or hydrogen peroxide followed by heat treatment. The preparation of activated charcoals from agricultural waste is being developed with excellent and potentially applicable results. In this context, a preparation method is shown using a chemical activation with phosphoric acid, which increased the content of carbon and decreased that of oxygen, then in order to study the development of surface area, it was put through an oxidation process with thermal heating. The charcoals obtained were characterized by proximal analysis, and diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy with Fourier transform was used for the determination of oxygenated functional groups. Basic oxygenated groups and acids were determined by means of Boehm's method, while the BET method was used for the measurement of the surface area. The area of micropores was increased by treatment with HNO3 and H2O2 from 278m²/g up to 402 and 446m²/g, respectively. Most of the area on the charcoals was due to micropores. Charcoal pH was approximately 3 and COOH groups reached values of up to 2.12meq/g.

In this paper, we present a conceptual‐numerical model that can be deduced from a calibrated finite difference groundwater‐flow model, which provides a parsimonious approach to simulate and analyze hydraulic heads and surface water body–aquifer interaction for linear aquifers (linear response of head to stresses). The solution of linear groundwater‐flow problems using eigenvalue techniques can be formulated with a simple explicit state equation whose structure shows that the surface water body–aquifer interaction phenomenon can be approached as the drainage of a number of independent linear reservoirs. The hydraulic head field could be also approached by the summation of the head fields, estimated for those reservoirs, defined over the same domain set by the aquifer limits, where the hydraulic head field in each reservoir is proportional to a specific surface (an eigenfunction of an eigenproblem, or an eigenvector in discrete cases). All the parameters and initial conditions of each linear reservoir can be mathematically defined in a univocal way from the calibrated finite difference model, preserving its characteristics (geometry, boundary conditions, hydrodynamic parameters (heterogeneity), and spatial distribution of the stresses). We also demonstrated that, in practical cases, an accurate solution can be obtained with a reduced number of linear reservoirs. The reduced computational cost of these solutions can help to integrate the groundwater component within conjunctive use management models. Conceptual approximation also facilitates understanding of the physical phenomenon and analysis of the factors that influence it. A simple synthetic aquifer has been employed to show how the conceptual model can be built for different spatial discretizations, the parameters required, and their influence on the simulation of hydraulic head fields and stream–aquifer flow exchange variables. CCCada suelo posee una limitada capacidad de proteger físico - químicamente la materia orgánica contra la biodegradación en sus partículas de arcilla y limo. Las tasas de mineralización de carbono (C) y nitrógeno (N) de los suelos estarían relacionadas al grado de saturación de C en estas partículas. En el presente estudio se investigó la hipótesis de que la disminución del C en la arcilla y limo a medida que el contenido de estas fracciones aumenta en los suelos se debe a una disminución en la superficie específica en las partículas de arcilla y limo. También se investigó la relación entre las tasas de mineralización de C y N con el grado de saturación con C en las partículas de arcilla y limo. Seis suelos cultivados (cereales) y tres suelos de praderas (Medicago sativa L.) fueron muestreados a 0-20 cm de profundidad. Todos los suelos fueron dispersados con ultrasonido y gravimétricamente separados en fracciones > 50 µm (arena) y < 50 µm (arcilla y limo). A todas las muestras y al suelo entero se les determinó el C - orgánico y la superficie específica con etilenglicol. Por otra parte, se probó que existe una estrecha relación entre el grado de saturación con C en las partículas de arcilla y limo con las tasas de mineralización. Sin embargo, también se encontró una buena relación entre el C-orgánico total del suelo y las tasas de mineralización. Esto último coincidió con el hecho de haber encontrado una buena correlación entre el C-orgánico del suelo y el grado de saturación. Nuestros resultados explican parcialmente la hipótesis de que las tasas de mineralización están más relacionadas al grado de saturación que a la textura (limo + arcilla) y al contenido de materia orgánica del suelo. Every soil has a limited capacity to physical-chemically protect organic matter from biodegradation in its clay and silt particles. Thus, the rates at which carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) are mineralized in soil should be related to the degree of C saturation in those particles. In this study the authors investigated the hypothesis that the decline in the amount of C in clay and silt particles from coarse to fine textured soil is due to a reduction of the specific surface area of clay and silt fractions in clay soils. The relation between the mineralization rates of C and N to the degree of C saturation in the clay and silt particles was also investigated. Six cultivated soils (cereal) and three non-cultivated soils (Medicago sativa L.) were sampled at 0-20 cm depth. All soils were ultrasonically treated and gravimetrically separated into fractions > 50 µm (sand) and < 50 µm (clay and silt). All fractions and whole soils were analyzed for organic-C and the specific surface area with ethylene glycol monoethyl (EGME). Moreover, there was a close relation between the degree of C saturation and the mineralization rates. However, there also was a good relation between the total organic C of the soil and the mineralization rates. This coincided with the fact that a good relation between the soil organic carbon and the degree of carbon saturation was found. Our results partially explain the hypothesis that the mineralization rates are more related to the degree of C saturation than to the soil texture (% clay and silt) and soil organic carbon.
