THEATRICAL costume , *CHOREOGRAPHERS , *BALLET , *QUANTITATIVE research , *COSTUME , *DANCE costume - Abstract
The theatrical costumes, in the genesis of a scenic dance project, are considered one more element whose importance lies in its significance. The aim of this paper has been to verify the importance of it as a communicating tool of concepts and as a symbolic element that contributes a sense to the interpretation of Spanish Dance. The use of this costume has been studied from a professional perspective (National Ballet of Spain (BNE), renowned performers and choreographers) and from an educational perspective (Professional Dance Conservatories of Andalusia (Spain) (CPDA)), making a methodological triangulation that combines quantitative and qualitative research, using the questionnaire and previously validated interviews as basic instruments. As a conclusion, the importance given to the use of theatrical costumes in Spanish Dance as an intentional communicative tool stands out, as well as their contribution to the interpretation in the scenic representation, confirming the hypotheses raised. In this paper, we present the results of a larger investigation in which, relying on the concept of interpretative repertoire put forward by Poter and Wetherell, we analyze the emerging discursive framework of the Andalusian Public Health System in terms of the arguments-ideas behind such framework. In a previous paper, we identified three major discursive groups that we labelled as critical, ontological, and legitimating. At this second stage, we address the subjectivities constructed on the basis of these repertoires and we emphasize three categories of subjects: healthcare, non-healthcare, and citizens. We draw attention to the multi-discursive nature of the organization and, therefore, the multi-referentiality inherent in the processes of subjectivity construction as well as the --potential-- organisational consequences of assuming one or another type of subjectivity. We conclude by proposing the need for a dialogic model of management that includes the system's multi-discursive variety toward a same direction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

FLAMENCO , *FLAMENCO music , *EMIGRATION & immigration - Abstract
Andalusian migration in the 1960's and 1970's was expanded in different parts of Europe, and has developed the presence of Flamenco dancing, playing and singing in many different countries. During two and three generations, Flamenco has been deeply enrooted also among people who did not have had any previous connection with the original migrant places. The presence of Flamenco has created an interesting cultural phenomenon in these countries that has not been totally studied. This paper is based on an ethnographic research in Brussels and Flanders, explores the details of the Flamenco culture in these places, and identifies the processes of heritage construction that takes place in this area. The paper looks into the ways that Flamenco artists use to legitimate themselves and to occupy the space in the settlement of this heritage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ENVIRONMENTAL protection , *PROTECTED areas - Abstract
Local populations in protected areas often contest the implementation of environmental conservation policies in their lands. This phenomenon often leads to conflict between different stakeholders, who activate discourses to legitimate their different positions on environmental protection and conservation. In this process, 'nature' becomes a key concept. This paper aims to analyze not only the discursive construction of nature, but also the connections between different ways to understand nature and create community discourses. For this purpose, the paper will be focus on a particular case study: the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Nature Park in Andalusia, Spain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

POVERTY , *STOCHASTIC analysis , *LORENZ curve ,SPANISH economy, 1975-2014 - Abstract
This paper introduces inference based stochastic dominance tools to decompose the difference between economic welfare and poverty among countries or regions into inequality effect and income effect. To this aim, the variances and covariances matrix of the generalized Lorenz curve used in that decomposition are developed. The methodology is applied to Spain and its regions for the period 2003-2007. The conclusion is that in some regions, especially AndalucIa and Madrid, the income distribution is clearly anti-poor. This paper presents the results of a study analyzing the relationship between some dimensions or developmental assets in the neighborhood, as measured by the Scale for the Assessment of Developmental Assets in the Neighborhood, and adjustment and life satisfaction of adolescent boys and girls. The sample consisted of 2400 adolescents (1068 boys and 1332 girls) between ages 12 and 17 who were secondary students in public and private schools in Western Andalusia. The results showed significant relationships between most dimensions of the scale (youth empowerment, attachment to neighborhood safety and social control) and internalizing and externalizing problems, substance use and life satisfaction of participants. Moreover, the data provide evidence about the external validity of the scale used in the study. From the results some suggestions for intervention in the community environment are extracted. AGRICULTURE , *OLIVE , *ORCHARD management , *INDUSTRIALIZATION - Abstract
In recent decades it has been developed a specialized literature on the study of particular features of preindustrial agricultures. This paper, in base to such research line, analyzes the case of olive orchards in southern Spain, which today represent the largest tree concentration in Europe, right in the previous moment to its great expansion (mid 18th Century). We seek to understand the geography of its spreading, its low expansion before industrialization and the why only few territories on Andalusia appeared like premature focus of specialization. ELECTIONS , *POLITICAL participation , *DEMOCRACY ,SPANISH politics & government - Abstract
This article takes over, from an empirical perspective, one of the classic concerns of normative theories of democracy: political community size and citizen participation. Although it focuses on voter turnout, this paper makes a simple question: why and how the political body size can influence the political behaviour of its residents. For this purpose, we examine, from an aggregate approach, the relationship between "size" and turnout in different types of elections in Andalusia, in the period 1999-2011. Our ecological analysis of participation, by using multi-regression techniques, shows that population size is the main "civic" characteristic of localities. However, other characteristics of local contexts, such as income and subsidized agrarian population, are positively related to participation. Our results suggest that individual theories of voting behaviour should also take into account the contextual factor when offering their conclusions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HISTORY education , *NATIONALISM , *READING exercises , *PARADOX - Abstract
This paper, which is a new subject of study, shows the paradoxes that ESO students find themselves in some Spanish provinces (in the case of Andalusia). It is a comprehensive reading exercise which will demonstrate that history is written, and rewritten, with specific objectives; objectives marked by nationalist and even regionalist tones. It is not our intention, in any way, to undermine the authority of the ideas presented in the actual text books, whose general content is accepted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

RECORDS management , *INFORMATION science , *COMPUTER integrated manufacturing systems , *ELECTRONIC records - Abstract
This paper reports about an experience of records management automation taking place at the Regional Government of Andalusia. The aim was making possible the document and archival management of its Autonomic Archives, and consisted in the development and application of the @rchivA Information System. It was developd in the context of the Electronic Administration Scheme of the Regional Government of Andalusia, as an cross-cutting and horizontal application for the development of the archival activity in this administration. This article tries to offer a panoramic vision on the state of the technological structure of the @rchivA Information System, that is adapted to the requirements of document management along each step of the whole life cycle of the records, as well as to the requirements of the archival management in administrative units that provide public services. Thereafter, the main management guidelines of the @rchiva Project are presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PROPORTIONAL hazards models , *AIDS patients , *STATISTICAL methods in medical research , *QUANTITATIVE research , *AIDS treatment - Abstract
In the last years there has been a rapid development of probability models and statistical analysis for technological and medical survival data. The proportional hazard model formulated by Cox (1972) has rapidly become one of the most widely used methods for the analysis of clinical data, turning into a very powerful tool that has served to generalize the use of the analysis of survival This model is particularly useful examining treatment comparisons based on the times to some event while adjusting for the effects of concomitant variables and easily adapts to the incomplete data which are frequent in medical research. We work with censored data on the right, for which we used the statistical package S-Plus. In this paper we applied the Cox's proportional hazard model in a study of 1366 women infected with AIDS in Andalusia (Spain) between the years 1982 and 2001 focusing on the following variables: age, time of diagnosis, province of residence and level of transmission. The main result has been an increase in the survival of women with the introduction of the "Antiretroviral Therapy Very Active" in 1996, women diagnosed in the period 1993-1995 have an irrigation die 2.3 times greater than that diagnosed after 1996. As for age, women 35 years and older have a risk of death 1.8 times higher than in women under 30. The province with the largest survival is Grenada. We have not found any differences in the category of transmission. The data has been provided by the Andalusian Registry of AIDS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ECONOMIC development , *HUMAN capital , *TECHNOLOGICAL innovations - Abstract
The main aim of this paper is to analyze the evolution of the determining factors of the relative economic development of Andalucia on the Spanish regional context between 1980-2000, as well ms the obstacles that these factors raise, favouring the unequal model of economic growth of Andalucia. We conclude that despite the advances in physical capital, human capital and technological innovation, they have been insufficient for Andalucia to achieve a bigger process of real convergence towards the Spanish regions, mainly due to the presence of the following obstacles: a high turnout of agricultural activities with low productivity, a strong weight of the low-relative productivity market services and a weak industry and energy fabric wich shows defficiencies in productivity. DIGITAL divide , *INFORMATION society , *INFORMATION & communication technologies , *ACCESS to information , *SOCIAL structure - Abstract
The appearance of the Information and Communication Technologies has generated new forms of inequality. This is the case of the digital divide, which refers to the unequal access to the technologies by different social groups due to, among other reasons, their place of residence, their age, or their educational level. However, despite of the growth of the number of studies about this social phenomenon, we are still unaware of important aspects of the digital divide. In this paper we try to contribute to the explanation of some of these aspects showing the relationship between the digital divide and the social differences that characterizes some territory. From a statistical model, specifically designed for this purpose, we will defend that the differences in the use of Internet among different territories can be completely explained resorting to the unequal social distribution among these territories. This will lead us to conclude, with authors like Van Dijk (2002), that the reduction of the digital divide is conditioned to the decrease of social differences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

VOTING , *ELECTIONS , *POLITICAL parties , *REGRESSION analysis - Abstract
One of the shortcomings of the literature on strategic voting is the absence of empirical evidence in proportional representation electoral systems (PR systems). In this paper the existence of strategic voting in the 1996 regional elections in Andalusia is demonstrated using a pooled cross- section regression model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
