Abstract
This article discusses the economic development in Spain from the 19th century through the 20th century. The author considers the influential role of businesses on the Spanish economy during this time period, citing the amount of academic and historiographical studies conducted on this subject in the latter half of the 20th century. Spain's involvement in international industry and economic competition is also considered.
