This paper focuses on the linguistic mitigation strategies employed by universitylevel speakers from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, who were interviewed within the framework of the "Project for the Sociolinguistic Study of Spanish from Spain and America (PRESEEA)". This first approach to the subject in the above-mentioned city includes an analysis of the most frequent strategies and their distribution according to the variables 'gender' and 'age', as well as a comparison with the results of parallel studies carried out in Madrid and Valencia, within the framework of the same pan-Hispanic research project.
