Engineering Without Borders of the Basque Country (ISF - MGI), we are an NGO that develops its activity in the heart of university and in intrenational cooperation for development. We aim to involve people of different studies, experiences and cultures, into a Sustainable Human Development filosophy in which science and technology serve to social and emotional ends, towards wellbeing and in harmony with nature. We are comitted to a transforming education that questions the stereotypes under which we have been educated, the recognition hierarchy of the different disciplines, the social structure under which the paths that have brought us to present have been moulded, and ultimately, the educating system. We aim for a participative education, where comprehension has to do with an inner transformation of the person, and whose work is based on solving people's real problems, with the purpose of encouraging a science and technology at the service of people. With this purpose we have published Aplicación del Enfoque de Género en Proyectos TFG y TFM (Applying a Gender Perspective on End of Degree and End of Masters Reseach Papers), which aims to be a practical guide to afront investigation with a gender perspective. In the same we enphasise the areas in which ISF-MGI works: science and technology, university and international cooperation for development, although it could be valid for any discipline. With this guide we offer some clues on how to put on our "purple glasses" and collaborate in trnasforming the university through a feminist point of view. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents the results of the carried out experimental investigation on the hydrotransport of mixtures in open channels. The author investigated non settling mixtures composed of pulp of paper and water in an open channel of circular cross section. The object of the investigation was to determine the energy losses due to the flow of water and pulp of paper and to propose a methodology for the design of open channels for mixtures. For the experimental development an assembly of laboratory was built in which a circular channel with variable slope was adapted. As a result it was possible to obtain new equations for the coefficient of friction of Darcy-Weisbach and the coefficient of friction of Manning, which relate these coefficients with the properties of the water, those of the mixture and the slope of the channel. With the equations obtained in the investigation the author it proposed a new methodology for the design of channels that they transport mixtures of water and paper pulp. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective. The objective of this study was to investigate the funding received by papers of excellence on smoking at the global level between 2010 and 2014 through the Web of Science, and to find out if funding is associated with greater impact. Method. We searched the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) and the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) through the Web of Science platform on 20 May 2015 (typology consisting of originals and reviews for the period from 2010 to 2014). The search strategy was “smok*” OR “tobac*.” To select the papers of excellence, we picked those that had an h index (i.e., number of articles having at least that many citations) from among the papers in the overall sample generated by the strategy. Results. Of the 193 papers of excellence on smoking that were identified, 158 had received funding from 279 different financing institutions that intervened 522 times. The funding came primarily from government agencies, private foundations, and the pharmaceutical industry. Public funding declined and private funding increased over the years included in the analysis. Receipt of funding was not associated with greater impact at a later date. Conclusions. Most of the papers of excellence on smoking received external funding primarily from government agencies, private foundations, and the pharmaceutical industry. This study compares the quality of responses to eight matrix questions (36 variables) included in a survey administered on paper and by computer in two equivalent samples. Three criteria have considerated: 1) the average of non-response questions for each mode; 2) the repetition (or not) of the same response in different question items (differentiation); and, 3) the choice of extreme and middle response alternatives on the scale (easy responses). The paper questionnaires provided a greater number of non-response questions, with no change in non-response rates when taking into account scale range: 4, 5, 10 and 11 categories. Citation of a scientific paper is a measure of its contribution to the advancement of science, as well as a measure of the contribution of the author to scientific development. It is important to know the genesis and internal and prior process to the publication of papers that receive a high number of citations. The aim of this study is to characterize the impact of the Dengue article six months after its electronic publication in the Lancet from a bibliometric point of view. The daily average number of citations received by this article is five so far, totaling more than a thousand citations, which makes it the most cited Cuban article of this century. The plots of Billy Budd and The Bonfire of the Vanities are organized entirely around a lawsuit. In The Pickwick Papers the trial is only a part, though an important one, of a series of related adventures in which the main characters of the novel participate. In the three novels there is a trial in which the accused is found guilty, although he is actually innocent. In The Posthumous Papers of the Club Pickwick, the author's main purpose is to present the operation of the legal system, in which the modus operandi of unscrupulous lawyers, who rely only on cheating and deceiving methods, is at the beginning of and determines the outcome of the lawsuit. In Billy Budd, an innocent is sentenced to death in order to preserve a supposed higher interest: the common good. In The Bonfire of the Vanities, political factors, personal interests, resentments and other worldly elements determine the outcome of the trial. The wastewater treatment at paper industry that uses recycled fibers as one of its raw materials generates a sludge rich in cellulose fibers, which once dehydrated is called "paper waste". This waste has become an environmental problem because of its high generation rate. Although several alternatives of valorization have been studied, in Medellin none of them has been implemented on an industrial scale; the necessity is still there, that is why the land disposal of this waste appears as the most immediate way to manage it. Combined with the problem of disposition, it is the selection of the suitable site to make it, for which a methodology to be applied in the evaluation and selection of the optative sites for the disposition of remainders of paper industry was developed. This article is one of the first material and concrete results of recent joint efforts made by the academic units of the Faculty of Social Sciences under the call of the Dean. The article in its first chapter reports current regulations governing the design, execution and presentation of Graduation Final Papers (GFP), at the second chapter concisely characterized academic training in research in general and the courses designed directly to support the process of preparing the GFP, the third section is a brief comparative analysis, concluding with the identification of the main strengths, weaknesses and challenges. In "The Yellow Wall-paper" (1982), Charlotte Perkins Gilman brings to the surface the kind of treatment women were subjected to by doctors who acted following their own -male- point of view, ignoring women's perspective and opinions completely. The research field on textbooks for Music Education is relatively recent, a fact that brings yet a timid corpus or researches. Concerning digital textbooks, those researches are even scarcer. This paper discusses the digital solutions for Music Education in basic schooling in Brazil, and elect as study objects the «Teacher's digital textbooks» for Art/Music Education, distributed by the Brazilian federal textbook program known as PNLD, in its 2020 edition. The theoretical framework is related to "manualistics" and studies connected to the concepts of schooling culture. The main method of this research is the document analysis taking as object the twenty eight digital art/music textbooks approved by the 2020 PNLD program. The results show that: digital textbooks became a reality in the Brazilian public textbook programs; the nature of those textbooks are still being shaped what is revealed by a variety of contours and structures, different of what happens in the printed version of textbooks, usually seen as more uniformed; the didactic models of those digital textbooks are, in general, still conservative, revealing a tendency of maintaining methodological models of the printed books. Finely, this research allows highlighting the efforts in offering better Art/Music digital textbooks to Brazilian students, enabling a dialogue with aspects of the contemporary world. The present research has as general objective, to develop a software for the revision of application of the norms of presentation of works of the University of Zulia in Word documents. The methodology used was the life cycle method for the development of James Senn systems. With the development of this research was obtained a software that allows to automate the process of application of the regulation of presentation of works in the University of Zulia in projects. Although closed abdominal trauma is a frequent entity, its association with gastric injury is rare (approximately a 1.7%); however, it is a possibility that should always be taken into consideration during its evaluation. In addition to its transcendence as an isolated finding, its correlation with other lesions is essential. We present the following case not only because of the low frequency with which these sort of lesions are observed, but also because of its anomalous clinical features that make any suspicion virtually impossible, except for the mechanism of the trauma. Among the material donated in 1903 to University of Granada Library by the son of Juan F. Riaño we can find the imprints of three finger rings, a stone seal with Arabic text and another object. The article studies the shape of the rings, dates them and reads their inscriptions. In addition, it gives a brief biography of Riaño, the illustrious scholar and politician born in Granada, and some data about F. Valera, the owner of the rings. It documents the acquisition of Valera's jewel collection by J. I. Miró, who sold it afterwards (1876) to Madrid National Archaeological Museum, where one of the rings is still kept and shown. The study was carried out to evaluate the structure and quality of two soil subtypes Eutric Cambisols and Vertic Eutric Cambisols, in the Villa Clara province, in areas of anthropic infiuence. Through the morphological characterization of the profiles and the land cover, that included the evaluation of physical and chemical indicators. The results obtained revealed, notable differences in the morphology of the profiles, which are not significantly associated with the different management systems, but they are attributed to the characteristics of each subtype. This article discusses a topic of particular relevance in the current academic dynamics and in the process of training of undergraduate and graduate students, as it is directly related to the teaching and evaluation processes. Objectives: to demonstrate the usefulness of direct serological method for direct detection of congenital hypothyroidism. Methods: a cross-sectional comparative study; for comparing the diagnostic performance of the technique of filter paper with the direct serological detection of neonatal TSH in the same group of infants examined. The study included 202 healthy newborns Hospital Materno Infantil Cochabamba, between 48 hrs. and 21 days of life; in the first quarter of 2014. The statistical analysis was performed comparing the curves of sensitivity and specificity with the Receiver Operating Characteristic (Receiver Operating Characteristic), specialized MedCalc statistical package, version 12.7. The descriptive analysis was performed using SPSS-IBM STADISTIC, version 19. Results: both techniques showed high sensitivity and specificity, with an area under the curve both close to 0.972 (ROC) IC 0.941 to 0.989, 95 %. Conclusions: both techniques proved effective in the diagnostic screening for congenital hypothyroidism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the paper are exposed the possibilities of achieving a clean technology of production of corrugated paper from the employment of the pounding of the trash of sugar cane with ethanol. Were established the possibilities of achieving, by means of an analysis, processes of material and energy integration of the manufacture of sugar and installations of production of by-products. These processes are technologically and energetically sustainable, environmentally compatible, and economically competitive based in the benefits that can be achieved through the material and energy integration of the sugar cane by-products and the possibility of producing celluloid pulps with ethanol for corrugated cardboard, and by-products from the lignin obtained in the process. In this paper the characterization of the work of art as a map of intensity, as proposed by Gilles Deleuze in his essay What the children say (gathered in Critique et clinique), will be analyzed. Art's cartographic aspect is linked to the concept of deterritorialization and the Body without Organs that the philosopher, along with Félix Guattarí, develops in Thousand Plateaus. Thus, the art-cartography represents the becoming-world of the subject that transits the Body-without-organs and the intensive differences that populate the desert of multiplicity. Each way travelled is descripted by an artistic map where the haecceities and the thresholds of flows that pierce through the disorganized bodies are portrayed. The map of intensity would be the cartographic representation of the haul travelled by a subject immersed in a hodologic space, being every line of the map a journey within an intensive space. This article is framed by laboratory experiments directed from synthetic and illustrative flow charts, which promote a structured approach to the concept of pH, and their relation with the acid- base behavior and buffer solutions. To teach such concepts necessitated the development and standardization of three types of pH indicator paper as well as the use of natural substances such as red cabbage, red rose petals and the curry which are easily found in the market and present a chemical behavior that allows the consolidation of such structuring concepts. This aspect was evident in the subsequent application to a number of substances for everyday use, in several ranges of the pH scale, achieved from a collection of buffer solutions prepared in advanced by students. The overall objective of this work was to find a new value to the leaves of agaváceas, waste of agribusiness. Four species of agaves were studied in three states of the Mexican Republic: Agave angustifolia (Oacaxa), Agave tequilana (Jalisco), Agave salmiana and Agave lechuguilla (Hidalgo). After a classification taxonomy, phenology, ecological and ethnobotanical (morphology), various physical analysis (moisture, grinding, screening, grading and leaf characteristics, SEM) and chemical (fat and oils, ash, proteins, TGA and DTGA and FTIR were subjected). The species of A. angustifolia and A. tequilana are those with an optimum size of fiber for papermaking. It also corresponds to the highest percentages of cellulose (44.3% and 36.8%) by DTGA. The proximate analysis, it appears that the two species defined as obtaining better for pulp, significant differences have small content of fat, protein, water solubilizable hot material (AT) and moderately alkaline and/or alcoholic solution.
