The aim of this paper is to analyze the image offered by the family and marriage since the Mexican Catholic press in the second half of the nineteenth century. To do this, we have used the publication Semanario Católico, newspaper of some importance to the era and influenced on issues such as family, marriage or parenting. At the same time, the publication addressed other issues that may be equally interesting to understand the conflict that occurred between civil and religious powers to regulate aspects of public and private life of individuals.
