This paper reconstructs and examines the participation in public life of the Chilean writer Francisco Bilbao during the early years of his political exile in the Argentine provinces (1857-1859). Its objective is to make a contribution to the studies on Bilbao and on political exile by considering the reasons that led him to choose that fate and examining the conditions that allowed him to play a relevant role in the press and in the associative movement despite being a political exile with revolutionary backgrounds and radical ideas. To that end, the characteristics of the society that welcomed him and his family, as well as the intellectual and political ties he wove are considered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
This paper aims to reconstruct the positions about sports of the Trotskyist newspapers Prensa Obrera and Politica Obrera of Argentina between 1995 and 2020, both belonging to two groups of militants who dispute control of the Partido Obrero. Emphasis will be placed on possible continuities and ruptures, as well as on the dialogue of these positions with the contributions of Marxism in the social sciences to think about sports phenomena. Abstract
This paper analyzes the press control practices used by the provincial political powers of Entre Ríos between 1862 and 1870. This period was characterized by an increasing political dispute and the deepening of public debate. An indication of this process is the increase in the number of newspapers and the diversity of their political positions. Most of the newspapers were Federalists and supporters of Urquiza, but they maintained a space of discursive autonomy and what was published did not always go along the lines of the caudillo's interest. Also, there were Unitary and dissident Federal newspapers which were very critical of the provincial government and the figure of Urquiza. Respect for press freedom as a legitimating principle of the exercise of power prevented the development of legislation restricting that freedom and discouraged the practice of filing law suits for libel against publishers or journalist among provincial officials. Hence, the way in which political power managed to limit opinion was dominated by informal practices of political control. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
This paper addresses the discourse conflicts concerning development and the social issue, between the government elites and the power groups during post-Peronist developmentalism era in Argentina. Because of space limitations emphasis will be made on the Onganía's government. Governmentality crisis faced during that period can be explained on the grounds of the difficulty elites in power had to come to an agreement on a hegemonic discourse concerning those issues, as it is argued here. The empirical analysis will show a constant: permanence in time of a liberal narrative against any effort of state regulation and the failed attempt to create an alternative narrative through the development significant.
