This paper puts forward some results of the 2005/2007 research work. The main aim was to know the institutional imaginary of one the experimental chartered schools of the city of San Luis, Argentina. This school system was only implemented in this province of the country as a consequence of the policies of the 90s which had a strong neoliberal ideology. Thus, this work studies the Institutional Imaginary based on imaginary social meanings through the institutional history, which support the institutional culture in the present socio-political context. Chartered schools are a new kind of "public" but privately run schools, in charge of a non-profit Civil Association supported by public funds. These schools have become part of the educational institutional culture by means of management models, organizing structure, working conditions, teaching practices, curricular structure, rules, ideals, values, etc., that generate important new meanings in the culture of educational institutions.
