This paper leads the attention to both the need and convenience of implementing international criminal law in the Chilean legal order. To this end it delivers, in a first part, an overview of crimes against international law, followed by both juridical and policy arguments to be considered in the discussion about implementation. Among the legal arguments it develops certain pre-existent obligations of the Chilean State and the general need that appears in civil law countries to implement international criminal provisions in their internal legal order to make them applicable following the mandate to fully describe though a law both the criminal behaviours and their punishment. A third part is dedicated to the different forms of implementation existent to date in different States, both relating how to implement and where to implement. This part seeks to give the reader some guidance on the different options available in this respect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
