The aim of the present article is to show the relevance of «Experimental Methods in Microbiology and Virology» subject in the Professional Education Process. To this aim, we will analyze its contribution in program «D» to the comprehensive education of the microbiologist. Different Methodological Strategies were designed and executed which covered from subjects groups to methodological workshops, as well as compilation and analysis of the results of surveys made to students. All these elements allowed perceiving a greater comprehensive education of the students, particularly their acquisition of more abilities through the integration of theoretical knowledge with the practical one, together with the strengthening of human values. All this promotes the formation of professionals in the fields of services, production and scientific research according to the priorities of the country. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study was carried out at the Research Experimental Plot (RE1) from Tsukuba International Center (TBIC) located in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, with the objective of analyzing the productive structure and yield of four rice (Oryza sativa L.) varieties of different origin. Treatments correspond to J-104, Bluebonnet-50, Suweon-294 and Nipponbare varieties. Dry matter content and light intensity were determined, also yield and its components were evaluated and the relationship existing between yield and light intensity was analyzed. A Single Classification Variance Analysis and Duncan's Multiple Range Test were used. Results showed differences between treatments and the indica-japonica variety Suweon-294 presented the best behaviour in the productive structure analysis, while the indica variety J-104 reached the highest yields. The experimental work was realized in the UBPC «Batalla de Jobito» located in «El Salvador» municipality, Guantánamo province during 2007-2009. Research objective was define an alternative of nutritional management based on the use of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), Azotobacter chroococcum, Bacillus megatherium and FitoMas-E phytostimulant, as a viable way to reduce mineral fertilization in the crop of guava Enana Roja cubana unaffected yields. In order to establish the experiments we worked with the combination of 10 g.plant-1 of mycorrhizal (species: Glomus intraradices) 2 L.ha-1 of AZOMEG [commercial product consisting of Azotobacter chroococcum (2x1011 cfu x mL-1) and Bacillus megatherium (3.2x1011 cfu x mL-1)] and 1 L.ha-1 of FitoMas-E with the gradual reduction of mineral fertilizer of N and P; using 100, 75, 50 and 25 % respectively. Outcome variable were measured: plant height, leaf pairs, number of brindillas, flowers and fruit, polar and equatorial diameter and mean fruit weight. Moreover postharvest weight loss and yield were calculated. Experimental results showed that the combination of 75 % of the mineral fertilizer, with biofertilizers and FitoMas-E was superior to other treatments studied in all evaluated variables, this enabled the reduction of 25 % of mineral fertilization and better economic response. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue determinar por medio de esta prueba, la presencia de Salmonella Enteritidis FT-13A (SE) y de Salmonella Issatschenko (SI), en diferentes muestras de órganos de pollitos de 4 días de edad infectados experimentalmente. Se emplearon órganos congelados de pollitos de 4 días de edad inoculados experimentalmente con SE y SI, para extraer el ADN y realizar la PCR clásica y anidada. Se logró detectar SE y SI desde las 6 horas posinfección experimental (PIE), pero conforme pasó el tiempo PIE, los resultados positivos fueron inconsistentes, obteniendo resultados negativos hasta las 174 horas PIE. Se concluyó que la PCR es útil para detectar SE y SI en las primeras horas PIE. Se sugiere utilizar pre-enriquecimiento de las muestras, para facilitar la extracción de ADN y la detección de Salmonella por medio de la PCR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Se presenta una experiencia de laboratorio para la enseñanza secundaria de microbiología. Se describe la obtención de material bacteriológico de las manos de los alumnos, se indican las condiciones de estudio y la preparación del medio de cultivo y se presentan los temas para desarrollar con los alumnos.

The natural and experimental infection of Peruvian lymnaeid snails with larval stages of Fasciola hepatica was demonstrated. The index of natural and experimental infection was of 12% and 28% in Lymnaea columella and of 27% and 70% in Lymnaea viatrix, respectively. Lymnaea diaphana and Lymnaea cousini did not present natural infection and demonstrated not to be prone to experimental infection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
