The stylistic and petrographic analysis of ceramic assemblages from three sites associated with a circulation route between the nodes of Antofagasta de la Sierra (Catamarca) and the middle Calchaquí Valley (Salta), in the internodal area of the Galán Volcano, provides evidence of social interaction between the Puna region and the valleys of northwestern Argentina. The comparative analysis of the information available in both nodes verified the use of this interaction route during the Late (ca. AD 900–1400) and Inca (ca. AD 1400–1550) periods. The circulation of vessels of state importance, made mainly in the Calchaquí Valley and transported to the Puna, was determined. At the same time, interaction with the Atacama region (Chile) is proposed. In sum, the pottery recovered materializes the articulation of both sides of the Andes Mountains as part of the Inca integration strategies implemented in the Collasuyo. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
