This article determines the technical and environmental feasibility of suitable technologies for the recovery of elemental mercury to ensure the removal of the pollutant discharged into the soil at the La Y plant located in the municipality of Providencia, Antioquia, Colombia. For the above, a qualitative methodology of research-action character is implemented, with descriptive scope, whose data collection instruments are based on the literature review and documentary evaluation, and its analysis and interpretation is done through the weighting method with a matrix of 9 criteria, which were defined by a group of experts from Pure Earth and the Manuela Beltrán University. A total of 7 mercury recovery technologies were analysed, with the result that Amalgamation - Copper Dishes is viable in the Y plant due to its recovery percentage, low implementation cost, processing time, field installation, in situ application, and exemption from environmental permits and patent payments. In addition, it is concluded that, in order to achieve an objective choice of recovery technology, it is of vital importance to select an interdisciplinary group with experience in mercury management and artisanal gold mining for the development of the methodology, as their judgements are what give veracity and validity to the results obtained.
