The most distinctive characteristic of the entomopathogenic bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis is the occurrence of crystalline inclusions or parasporal bodies (crystals) which vary in form, size and number. Were determined using the scanning electron microscopy. The parasporal crystals of six nematicide strains of B. thuringiensis which have shown the pathogenic activity against some insect orders. The bipyramidal form of different sizes with cubic inclusions was predominant in strains LBT1, LBT3, LBT24 and LBT47. The bipyramidal form was observed in the strain LBT4, but without cubic inclusions. Strain LBT25 has an atypical morphology quite different to other strains with crystals (amorphous to spherical) with bar-shaped inclusions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
