ALLERGIC rhinitis , *NASAL mucosa , *CINAHL database , *RHINORRHEA , *QUALITY of life - Abstract
Introduction and objective: Allergic rhinitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the nasal mucosa, mediated by immunoglobulin E. It affects one in six individuals, with a prevalence of 10% to 40% in the population. In recent years, the use of rhinophototherapy has been proposed to reduce its symptoms in patients who cannot benefit from intranasal corticosteroids or oral antihistamines; as well as adjuvant treatment to them. The objective of this review is to analyze the efficacy of rhinophototherapy as adjuvant treatment in allergic rhinitis. Method: A review was performed following PRISMA guidelines. The PubMed, Cinahl, PsycINFO, SPORTDiscus, Academic Search Complete, Lilacs, IBECS, CENTRAL, SciELO, and WOS databases were consulted. The Cochrane tool was used to assess the risk of bias and the quality of the evidence was assessed GRADE. Results: Rhinophototherapy is an effective adjuvant treatment in allergic rhinitis. The total sample was 251 patients. In all studies, the application of rhinophototherapy was safe and the duration of treatment ranged from two to six weeks, with an average of three times per week. Discussion: In the future it would be necessary to continue researching to establish a unified protocol regarding the frequency, duration and number of sessions. As well as analyzing the possible synergistic effect of this treatment with other therapies. Conclusions: Rhinophototherapy was effective in patients with allergic rhinitis. This therapy improves clinical symptoms of sneezing, rhinorrhea, nasal obstruction, nasal itching, palate itching, nasal inspiratory peak flow measurements, patient quality of life, and symptom severity. Vasomotor symptoms (VMS) associated with menopause usually reduce the quality of life of women, generating eloquent discomfort. Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) is the standard in the treatment of menopausal symptoms, being the only treatment that has been shown to be effective for VMS. Objective: to describe the efficacy and safety of transdermal menopausal hormone therapy (THM TD) to relieve menopausal symptoms. Methods: a systematic review of the literature was carried out in different electronic databases (CINAHL Plus, EMBASE, Scopus, Lilacs, Medline, Pubmed, among others), through standardized search terms. The outcomes evaluated included studies where any treatment or intervention with TD MHT was published in women treated for menopausal symptoms, percentages of relief of climacteric symptoms and proportion of associated adverse events. Results: 45 publications were included, and they agree in advising treatment with MHT TD, in view of a relief of climacteric symptoms close to 90%, as well as being safer and potentially more effective than oral therapy; with normal results in mammographic evaluation, and without related adverse events after 5 years of follow-up. Conclusions: transdermal hormonal therapy in menopause is safe and effective in relieving menopause symptoms. By avoiding hepatic metabolism, it achieves better clinical benefits, while minimizing the exposure to adverse events. The reviewed publications demonstrate that the transdermal route is the best way to treat menopause symptoms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To map available scientific evidence on rehabilitation in the daily lives of people with postcovid-19 neurological sequelae. Methodology: This is a scoping review according to the guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Institute. The included studies were based on the mnemonic strategy participants/problem (adult people with neurological sequelae), concept (rehabilitation in everyday life) and context (covid-19 pandemic), with timeframe from 2020 to 2022, available in the seven selected databases, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, collected and analyzed according to PRISMA-ScR. Results: A total of 1,027 studies were recovered, and the sample consisted of 11 articles that presented rehabilitation programs for sequelae: fatigue, anosmia, cognitive and neuropsychological disorders. Among the main rehabilitation programs found, the following stand out: progression walking, breathing exercises; olfactory training using essential oils and cognitive approaches. From the findings, the rehabilitation process has been shown to be effective for the management of post-covid-19 neurological sequelae, and should be started early. Conclusions: Rehabilitation programs should involve a multidisciplinary team, since the disease presents persistent multisystemic symptoms, involving a holistic approach, which encompasses behavioral aspects related to self-care, physical rehabilitation, emotional support and health education, promoting recovery and improving the quality of life of individuals affected by the disease. Background: lipoedema is a disease in which there is a pathological and excessive fat deposition in the subcutaneous cellular tissue. This pathology is chronic and progressive occurring bilaterally and symmetrically. The proposed treatment is oriented to the signs and symptoms presented by each patient and should be approached in a multidisciplinary manner. Objective: to analyse the existing literature on the role of physiotherapy in the treatment of lipoedema.Material and method: A search was carried out in January 2022 on existing publications in PubMed, Medline, CINAHL, PEDro, WOS and Scopus. Inclusion criteria were established for articles to be in English, and exclusion criteria were those that did not fit the objective, repeated articles and systematic reviews and metaanalyses. Results: we evaluated the methodological quality of the 8 articles and analysed the composition and characteristics of the intervention in each of them. The most repeated therapies are complex decongestive therapy and the intermittent pneumatic compression technique. In all the studies where they have been used, positive results have been found. Conclusions: even with the little existing scientific evidence on the exact treatment of the disease, in most of the physiotherapy treatments applied, significant improvements were achieved in terms of volume, pain, functionality and other variables analysed. Therefore, further research is necessary to increase the level of evidence in this field and to be able to determine a really specific and effective treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: In adolescents, the vulnerabilities resulting from HIV infection are linked to the biopsychosocial singularities of the phase, making them a priority group for health strategies. Objective: To analyze the state of the art regarding situations of vulnerability of adolescents who (co)live with HIV. Method: Integrative literature review conducted in eight libraries/databases to answer the guiding question. The standardized recommendations for review were followed, the findings were categorized and discussed according to the vulnerability framework. Result: 7,517 publications were identified, of which 11 were included. Different situations of individual, social and programmatic vulnerability experienced by young people with HIV were evidenced, namely: omission of diagnosis, stigma, discrimination, low adherence to antiretroviral therapy, emotional distress, among others. Discussion: Adolescents living with HIV are susceptible to situations that expose them to real and/or potential risks. In this sense, it is imperative to qualify health services and actions, in a logic of universal and integral offer, free of judgments based on personal beliefs. Conclusion: Adolescents who (co)live with HIV are inserted in dynamic, subjective, and complex contexts of vulnerability, constrained by individual, social and programmatic aspects that negatively influence their adolescence, their health, and their relationships. Introduction: there are currently discrepancies about when to use conservative treatment in lymphoedema and many health professionals doubt abaut its efficacy, proposing other therapeutic options such as invasive interventions, casting doubt on whether complex decongestive therapy is the only possibility for conservative treatment of lymphoedema. Objective: to identify the degree of usefulness and efficacy of Physiotherapy treatment in lymphedema. Material and method: a search was carried out in February 2021 of articles published in the last 5 years in the Pubmed, Medline and Cinahl databases, using the descriptors "Physical Therapy Modalities", "Physical Therapy" and "Lymphedema". Results: a total of 46 articles were obtained, of which 17 met the selection criteria and were valid for analysis. The scientific evidence reviewed reaffirmed the efficacy of treatments based on techniques included in complex decongestive therapy, such as manual lymphatic drainage, pressure therapy and compression stockings, but also of other techniques such as hydrotherapy, kinesitherapy or therapeutic exercise and even modifications of complex decongestive therapy. Conclusion: Physiotherapy is beneficial for the treatment of lymphedema, but we cannot establish which technique is the most beneficial since there is heterogeneity in the therapies used by the different studies. Introduction: End-of-life care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is aimed at offering care to the person who is near the end of their life, and its objective is to alleviate suffering and attend to mental, emotional and spiritual needs. Objective: Identify end-of-life care for adult patients in ICUs. Method: Scoping review of the literature was carried out following the PRISMA-ScR. A search was made for articles in Spanish, English and Portuguese in 16 databases during the period 2001-2022. The extraction and selection of data were carried out using the Rayyan web tool. Finally, 35 articles were selected. Results: The predominant language of the selected articles was English (82 %), and the country of origin was United States (31 %). The results were presented in three categories: a) patient care, b) family care, and c) perceptions of health personnel. Conclusions: The most reported end-of-life care is the use of drugs such as morphine, midazolam and lorazepam, as well as early communication between health personnel, patients and their families. Within care, nursing has a very important role, since it provides care in a holistic way, being a guide and educator, and providing comprehensive support to the family during and after the end-of-life process. The Advance Care Planning (ACP) is an approach that allows the individual to define goals and preferences regarding future treatments and health care, in the face of serious illnesses. Objective: To summarize the literature on ACP educational interventions to support adherence to Advance Directives (AD) in Palliative Care (PC). Methods: Integrative literature review carried out in MEDLINE, Web of Science, CINAHL and Cochrane Library databases, from 2016 to 2020; in Portuguese, English and Spanish. Results: Twelve articles were selected, which used different strategies for educational interventions. From the analysis of the data obtained, three categories emerged: importance of the family approach in the adherence to AD; professional-patient communication in the adherence to AD; in-hospital and out-of-hospital context of the ACP. Conclusion: it is recommended that ACP educational interventions use an early approach to patients diagnosed with chronic diseases, that they are centered on the patient-family unit and that they make use of effective and open communication. Thus, knowledge about these interventions will help nurses to develop effective bonding and communication strategies in approaching palliative care patients and their families. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The Nursing Activities Score has been used mainly in Intensive Care Units as an instrument to measure nursing activities since this is the unit that receives the most complex patients. For this reason, this scoping review aims to establish the workload using the Nursing Activities Score and the factors related to it in Intensive Care Units. Methods: Qualitative scoping review using the PRISMA statement. Searches were conducted in CINAHL, LILACS, Scopus, Science Direct, SciELO, and PubMed databases. Results: The final sample consists of 87 texts published between 2007 and 2021. They were classified into five categories: ICU workload, inter-unit comparison, workload related to nursing staff, workload related to patient characteristics, and workload consequences. Discussion: The review reveals a workload greater than 50% in most of the studies due to different factors, but mainly to patients' particular characteristics. No significant difference was observed between general and specialized units; high workloads are a risk factor for adverse events. Conclusions: This review shows that nurses are constantly exposed to high workloads. It is possible for workloads to affect or be influenced by various factors, such as the characteristics of patients being cared for, or to impact the quality of nursing care positively or negatively. Cardiovascular disease and depression are considered public health problems, depression is a risk factor for patients with heart failure (HF) for its clinical implications. The objective of this study was to describe two modalities of psychotherapeutic interventions in the approach to depression in patients with HF. Search methods: We searched the specialized databases MEDLINE, PubMed, PsycINFO, Web of Science, CINAHL and Cochrane Library from 2010 to 2020. Selection criteria. Articles were selected by title and abstract., published in the last 10 years, written in Spanish or English and repeated registrations were deleted. Obtaining the data: Three authors collected information from the studies being documented. Main results: We included 4 clinical studies with 911 patients, were conducted in 4 countries in the last 10 years and implemented different methods of digital interventions and home visits, the effects of these treatments have been statistically significant to reduce self-reported depression scores in patients with HF who received psychotherapeutic intervention in any of these modalities compared to those patients who only received a treatment. Conclusions: Due to the limited number of studies and different methods of intervention, a standard treatment of HF depression in these care formats is not identified, so more research in this field of study is recommended. Introduction: Constipation is a pathology with different causes, with a prevalence of around 19 % of the adult population. Treatments for it can be pharmacological or non-pharmacological. Within the non-pharmacological treatment, the application of Physiotherapy techniques seem to solve it. The aim of this study was to carry out a systematic review of the effects of Physiotherapy treatment on constipation. Material and method: a search of the scientific literature was carried out with the terms: "constipation" and "physical therapy modalities" in PubMed, PEDro, Cinahl, Web Of Science y Scopus. Results: fourteen studies were selected and it has been found that the different physical therapy techniques provided statistically significant results, highlighting the improvement in quality of life, reduction of constipation and its severity and improvement in stool consistency. Conclusion: the application of physiotherapy appears to be effective in the treatment of constipation in pediatric and adult patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: neck pain is the fourth leading cause of disability in the world. Its annual prevalence rate is around 37.2 %. Kinesiotape (KT) has become one of the most widely used treatments in the last 20 years. Nowadays, the use of KT for neck pain is still very common and to date a significant number of reviews have been published on the efficacy of this technique in different structures, but new evidence found on neck pain is unknown. Objective: to evaluate the effects that KT can produce on neck pain. Material and method: a review of the scientific literature was carried out through a systematic search in march 2021 in the following databases: Pubmed, Cinahl and Scopus. Results: fourteen RCTs from the last five years were included. The main variable evaluated was neck pain. Only six studies had positive results from it. The methodological quality was assessed with the Jadad scale, with a mean score of three points and the risks of bias according to the Cochrane Handbook were significant. Conclusion: the application of KT in cervical pain would have few positive effects on it. However, in the case of myofascial pain syndrome, it might be thought that this treatment could have positive effects. Even so, we find several limitations that can affect its results, such as encompassing different pathologies under the same symptoms or having different dosages in the treatments. Introduction: Tracheostomy procedures in intensive care units are on the rise; however, they can lead to both perioperative and postoperative complications, with a variable incidence from 5 to 40% and even death in up to 1.4% of individuals. Despite this, few studies address causal concepts or mechanical and nonmechanical risk factors about this important topic. Objective: To review the scope of the available scientific literature on complications of mechanical and non-mechanical origin associated with a tracheostomy. Materials and Methods: The research question and inclusion criteria were established to conduct the search in PubMed and EBSCO databases between 2015 and 2020. The PRISMA-ScR checklist was used in the present study as a methodological and quality guideline. Results: The most frequent complications were bleeding 61%, tracheal stenosis 28.5%, decannulation 23.6% (5/21), stoma infection 19%, death 19%, and difficult tracheostomy tube insertion 19%. Regarding mechanical risk factors, only the use of the Bjork flap (OR=0.4) was identified as a protective factor. Among the non-mechanical factors, obesity (OR=5.15), tube diameter >6 (OR=2.6), and preoperative mechanical ventilation (OR=3.14) were found. Conclusions: It was possible to identify that the highest incidence of tracheostomy-related complications were bleeding, tracheal stenosis, accidental decannulation, and death; however, it is still unknown whether they originate from a mechanical or non-mechanical cause during intensive care management. Objective: To study the existing literature on the bra as a tool for well-being in women. Methodology: Review of the Turning Research into Practice, Cochrane Library Plus, PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), BMi Best Practice and UpToDate databases in English and Spanish for the last 10 Last search in September 2021. Results: Of the 150 bibliographic references, 130 met the selection criteria. 12 articles were selected: 8 originals, 2 guidelines for action and 2 systematic review. The main results found were breast pain and causes, painful processes related to the bra, special situations such as pregnancy, lactation or breast surgeries, biomechanical alterations and the influence on quality of life related to depression and anxiety. Conclusions: There is no evidence that sagging breasts are caused by not wearing a bra. Nor is it between wearing a bra and an increased risk of breast cancer. Correct use of the bra was related to improvements in breast pain, biomechanical alterations and mood, breastfeeding, breast surgery and practice of impact sports. The bra garment is evaluated as a health tool in women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To know how Nursing Theories can be taught in undergraduate nursing courses. Method: This is an integrative review resulting from the analysis of 6 articles selected from the CINAHL, MEDLINE and PubMed databases, through the descriptors: Nursing Theory, Nursing Education and Baccalaureate in Nursing. Results: The results showed that there are creative and innovative possibilities for the teaching-learning process of the Theories, but there are also challenges such as the little value given to this theme and the lack of articulation between the theoretical content and the practice. In addition, some recommendations were presented, such as the insertion of a discipline that addresses Nursing Theories in undergraduate and graduate courses. Conclusion: With this review, it was possible to know some ways of teaching Nursing Theories in graduation courses, however, it is necessary to carry out more primary studies to point out the need to strengthen this theme for Nursing practice. Introduction: The need to teach palliative care to health professionals is increasingly prevalent in the world and in Latin America. Educators must recognize advances in the teaching of palliative care through new ways of learning. Objective: Characterize methodologies, contents and effects of teaching of palliative care in health students in literature published between 2016 and 2020. Methods: A scoping review was carried out o articles published in journals indexed in the databases Medline, Cuiden, Lilacs, CINAHL during the period 2016-2020 in English, Spanish and Portuguese. 25 manuscripts were selected after doing the evidence critique process. Results: The studies included were mostly carried out with quantitative methodologies, in the United States and with populations of nursing students. The information extracted from the articles was organized into four themes: 1) educational courses in palliative care, 2) simulation strategies, 3) students' knowledge of palliative care, and 4) students' attitudes and emotions towards palliative care. Conclusions: The strategies found to teach palliative care include completely virtual or multimodality courses and clinical simulation, or in laboratories. In general, the evidence shows the interest that exists on the part of the students to receive this type of course and the importance that they have in their professional development. Introduction: In Colombia, postpartum hemorrhage is the second leading cause of death in pregnant women at a rate of 6.9 deaths per 1,000 live births. After childbirth, 8.2% of Latin American women are expected to have postpartum hemorrhage. Objective: To describe nursing care delivered to women with postpartum hemorrhage to reduce the risk of hypovolemic shock by means of an integrative literature review. Materials and Methods: Following the approach suggested by Sasso, de Campos and Galvão, an integrative literature review was conducted on ClinicalKey, LILACS, CINAHL, Epistemonikos, Cochrane Library, PubMed and ScieELO Google Scholar databases. Articles published in the last five years in Spanish, English and Portuguese were selected and classified by their level of evidence and degree of recommendation. This is a low-risk research due to its documentary nature. Results: 41 articles were finally selected and classified into clinical picture, nursing care and challenges in OBGYN care. Discussion: Nursing professionals should identify barriers to care by evaluating institutional problem-solving capacity and analyzing maternal death cases. Using misoprostol and oxytocin or only carbetocin and ergometrine-oxytocin is suggested based on the quantity of blood loss. Conclusions: Performing a physical examination is important to recognize signs of hemodynamic instability and hypovolemic shock. Nursing diagnoses and interventions focus on providing quality patient care to prevent certain complications such as death. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The literature reports, in relation to "Animal Assisted Therapy", health benefits in areas such as mental health. The nursing community has reported little literature on evaluating this type of intervention despite the relationship between the concept and the profession. Objective: Analyze the concept of "Animal Assisted Therapy" and propose its use in nursing care in people with mental illness. Material and methods: The concept was analyzed using the Wilson analysis technique, identifying the conceptual elements through practical cases. The documentary review was applied in the databases PUBMED, CINHAL and the Google search engine. Articles were selected from the last ten years, which included the key concepts. Results: This analysis allows to use clear and concise language about the concept. It offers, to the disciplines interested in applying these therapies, a broader vision of it. Conclusions: The concept analyzed is a complex phenomenon that varies according to social, cultural and emotional factors. Its applicability in nursing will depend on the context and knowledge of it. Objective. Describe the quality of life of health personnel, the work environment, and interactions between employees and their work environment during the pandemic. Methods. A scoping review was conducted. The electronic databases PubMed, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Literature Complete, and Google Scholar were used, as well as the repositories of the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Primary, secondary, and grey literature studies published between December 2019 and March 2021 in Spanish, English, and Portuguese were included. Methodological quality was assessed using the Authority, Accuracy, Coverage, Objectivity, Date and Importance (AACODS) checklist; a tool for the measurement of multiple systematic reviews (AMSTAR); and the Critical Appraisal Checklist for Text and Opinion Papers. A thematic analysis was carried out based on the quality-of-life and well-being model. Results. Of a total of 208 articles, 11 were included. The quality of life of health personnel during the COVID-19 pandemic was affected by the characteristics of health personnel, the work environment, and interactions between employees and their work environment. Problems related to psychosocial and occupational factors were observed. Discussion. The quality of life of health personnel was characterized by stigmatization, stress, anxiety, and fatigue. Organizational management and the implementation of psychological interventions appear to affect interactions between employees and their work environment, and improve their quality of life. Aim: To identify aspects that influence the development of delirium, its management, evaluation and care in relation to the promotion and the prevention of delirium. Methodology: An integrative review was carried out in the following databases; CINHAL, SCOPUS and Scielo. 19 articles were selected, limited by year (2016-2017). Result: Four factors that have an impact on delirium were identified: pathophysiology / risk factors, prevention and promotion, objective evaluation and management in critical units. Conclusion: Nursing is in charge of care management, therefore, it is essential not to leave this issue aside because its incidence will increase the days of hospitalization, days of mechanical ventilation and mortality, negatively impacting the quality of care.
