Metric studies provide information on the outcomes of scientific activity and offer an insight into scientific endeavors within an institution. A study was conducted to understand the research trajectories at the Facultad de Odontología during the period 2011-2020 to generate reflections and define challenges that guide research activity. A cross-sectional scientometric study was conducted. Based on a literature review, indicators of productivity, visibility, and impact were defined. Information sources were identified according to the established indicators, and data were systematized in Excel matrices for subsequent descriptive analysis. A total of 326 journal articles were identified, with 83% being original research, 8 research-derived books, and 57 review chapter publications. 156 articles were published in Scopus-indexed journals; 75% of the articles were published in open-access journals; 33% in A1 journals, 16% in A2, 13% in B, 13% in C, and 14% in journals not classified in Publindex. Most published articles received up to 20 citations, regardless of the journal's indexing. This study identified the productivity, visibility, and impact of research activity at the Facultad de Odontología while defining the challenges faced by such activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Bibliometrics is the application of statistical methods to analyze books, articles and other publications, especially scientific ones. Closely related to scientometrics and informetrics, to the point of overlapping and confusing. Bibliometrics refers to the study of the dynamics of the disciplines reflected in the production of their literature. It includes everything from the record of changes in the production of an academic discipline over time and between countries or regions, to the problem of the library collection. In this article some historical concepts, definitions and objectives of bibliometrics will be explained; as well as the Laws of bibliometrics; the types of analysis and bibliometric indicators most used; to finish with some examples of different types of published bibliometric studies, so that the reader can form a general idea of what he can do in this field, applying these methodologies to surgical disciplines and others as well. The aim of this manuscript was to generate a study document regarding bibliometrics as an alternative to develop research in surgery and related disciplines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nanotechnology has acquired great importance in disciplines such as physics, electronics, biochemistry, and medicine. A statistical study has analyzed the evolution of publications and citations in nanoscience and nanotechnology worldwide in the last 25 years. China leads scientific production in this field, followed by the United States. A statistical difference has been detected between regions of the world, with Asia being the most productive and Africa and Latin America being the least productive. There is a significant gap between developed and developing nations regarding this topic. Nanotechnology has proven to be an effective solution for macro-level problems, such as water treatment and increasing crop yields. However, it is necessary to conduct thorough studies on the toxicological effects on humans and potential risks. [Extracted from the article]

This research called Mobile Marketing as a dissemination strategy in Industry 4.0 aims to analyze the study of research variables through scientific mapping; through this process it is possible to understand and identify phenomena and research communities which are not directly appreciable; the use of software tools for visualization allows a large number of volumes of data to be processed and accessed in the same way; through a type of descriptive-analytical research; thus, it also consents to the construction of scientific visualizations of co-occurrences and co-citations with regard to keywords. The bibliometric analysis of this study has been consolidated since the years 2019-2022 through the Lens.org tool as a platform with great scientific impact and resources in scientometric studies in areas such as social innovation, technology, education and industry. As results of the investigation, the patterns and trends were analyzed with regard to the scientific literature retrieved from databases in relation to scientific subscriptions through scientograms, which constitute a spatial representation of the patterns found through records and the relationship that exists. Objective: To determine the impact of different specialized family issues journals indexed in Scopus according to SJR database from 1999 to 2018. Methodology: The selected journals were categorized according to their content in four groups: "medical" journals that publish family health or reproductive health issues; "social" journals that address the family from a legal, historical or sociological perspective; "psychological" journals that publish family issues from the clinical, social or educational psychology perspective; and the group of "financial or economic" journals that address the family from its consumption habits, family economy or business strategies. To determine its impact, this study assesses: the SJR prestige measurement factor, the H index and the number of citations per document in the last two years using the R software version 3.6.1 through the sjrdata version 0.2.0 package. Results: In general terms, the most ranked journals are those in the social area. Likewise, the medical areas host the largest number of journals. On the other hand, the United States and the United Kingdom account for approximately 50% of family magazines in the world. Conclusions: Through this research, various researchers specialized in the area of family will be able to identify the most eligible journals to publish considering their reputation and academic impact. Spanish scientific production and technology transfer that it entails are constantly growing, and consequently that of the Autonomous Communities as well. However, this does not mean that all the Autonomous Communities evolve in the same way, nor that they all implement the same policies. In this paper we present a comparison of investment in R&D&i, scientific production, and its transfer to the productive fabric of the seventeen Spanish Autonomous Communities in the period 2003-2020. The data used to carry out this work has been extracted from three of the platforms created by the SCImago group: SCImago Journal & Country Rank (SJ&CR), SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) and SCImago Patents Rank (SPR) (under development) based on information included in Elsevier's Scopus database and PATSTAT. In total, 1,276,914 primary documents published in the 2003-2020 period have been recovered, signed by authors affiliated to Spanish institutions that have been disaggregated at the level of Autonomous Communities. With them, a battery of indicators of scientific production (12), its technological impact (5) and technology transfer (5) has been generated, in addition to its variation rates. SCIENTIFIC literature , *URBAN agriculture , *FOOD security , *LITERATURE reviews , *CITIES & towns , *FOOD supply , *WEB databases - Abstract
Urban communities are at permanent risk and are vulnerable to catastrophic situations that lead to food insecurity. A systematic review of scientific literature of publications in journals indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases is carried out in this article, to identify advances, trends, and impacts in the timeline, related to Urban Agriculture (UA) on the topics of food security, climate change, and sustainable development. The methodology is based on the Prisma Method (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses) and incorporates scient metric tools and analysis of the outcomes, resulting in the so-called Tree of Science. As a case, the state of the art in UA in the last twenty years has been presented, derived from the reading of 44 research studies around the world, which have connections between authors and show that UA is a sustainable food alternative that provides a medium-term response to the uncertainties of plant food supply in cities. It is concluded that scient metrics is a potential tool for literature review and delimitation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

COVID-19 pandemic , *SCIENTIFIC communication , *FACT checking , *OPTICAL communications , *MEDIA consumption , *AUDIENCES , *DATA modeling - Abstract
This work presents a current map of scientific research on Communication in Spain, identifying both the research fronts of the publications with the greatest impact over the last three years (2019–2021) and the authors who led such work and their universities of reference. The original methodology applied herein focuses on an analysis of the cited authors. After a careful selection process, we work with a corpus of more than 800 articles, using Scopus and the VOSviewer software to generate a co-referencing map and throw light on the structure of the Communication field. On the basis of that analysis, we identify nine thematic clusters, with a particular grouping structure, leading authors, and relationships around fields of study such as communication, democracy and power, audiences and media consumption, the media industry, journalistic practice, fact checking and disinformation, journalistic innovation, and SEO journalism. The ranking of cited authors, where Ramón Salaverría and Rasmus K. Nielsen hold equal first position and the Chilean Claudia Mellado is the only woman at the head of a strong group, is put into context by analyzing their scientific production and the normalized impact in Communication of their institutions. The comparative analysis reveals the elite Spanish authors in Communication (Xosé López-García, Ignacio Aguaded, Andreu Casero-Ripollés, Lluís Codina, and Ramón Salaverría) and shows how universities in Madrid maintain their importance in terms of production but that those in Catalunya have the lead in terms of impact. The research is completed with a map of keyword co-occurrence that confirms the barrage of studies around the Covid crisis and the parallel and growing number of hoaxes (fakes). The research confirms the relevance of and opportunity to apply scientometric techniques to the Communication field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

NUMBERS of species , *HYLIDAE , *LEPTODACTYLIDAE , *BUFONIDAE , *TOADS , *ANURA , *TREND analysis - Abstract
Vocalizations are one of the most important communication modalities in amphibian biology, and advertisement call is the type of vocalization mostly emitted by anurans (frogs and toads). In the present study, we carried out a scientometric analysis of the advertisement call in species of anurans in Colombia to determine the state of knowledge of this science in the country. We recorded the number of call descriptions and its trend throughout more than 60 years; in addition, we identified how many species there are with the call described per taxonomic family, geographic units and threat status. According to our review, between 1958 and June 30 of 2021, at least 296 studies have been published that describe the advertisement call of 307 species (of 785 in the country); only 130 descriptions come from recordings to individuals in Colombian populations. Leptodactylidae and Hylidae are the families with the highest percentage of species whose call has been described (84.6% and 68.4%, respectively). On the contrary, Bufonidae (19.5%) and Craugastoridae (12.9%) exhibit a low percentage of described calls. The Central and Eastern cordilleras were the regions with the best knowledge of advertisement calls, while the least known were the Caribbean - interAndean valleys, Orinoquía, and Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. In terms of the threat status, the species with the least concern (LC) were the ones that presented the highest number of species with the call described. Despite an increase in the most recent two decades, our findings still reveal notable gaps in knowledge of the advertisement calls in Colombian anurans, which constitutes an incentive to develop future research on this subject. Finally, based on this meta-analysis, we highlight some recommendations that we hope that we hope stimulate new studies in ecoacoustics, using anurans in Colombia as a study model. This article analyzes the scientific and innovative activity of Peru in relation to its South American peers. For this purpose, indicators of investment in R&D, publications, patents, collaboration, impact and the relationship between some of them were defined. The data were retrieved from Scopus, SciVal, World Bank and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The study showed that both the R&D investment and scientific and technological production in Peru are lower than in other South American countries. Peru ranks fifth in South America in international collaboration (60.1%), and a similar trend is seen in impact and performance. All the countries in the study show increases in publications in Q1 journals, according to the SJR. Among the conclusions, it is worth highlighting the low investment in R&D in most of the countries in the region (below 0.6% of GDP), as well as the high technological dependence and the important role of universities as a driving force for research. Introduction: The achievement of the Objectives of Sustainable Development is based, among others, on the consolidation of the scientific communities required for study and social intervention. Objective: This study characterizes the training, production and scientific impact of researchers specializing in environmental psychology in Colombia, based on the National System of Science, Technology, and Innovation in Colombia. Materials and methods: The products registered on the Colciencias platform (now the Colombian Ministry of Sciences) were retrieved through structured information searches; Based on these, the profiles of 36 researchers were identified. Results: Researchers' graduate academic background is diverse and focuses on education, social sciences, and psychology; however, most of their dissertations are not in these fields. About academic publications, the research specialization index shows low participation of environmental psychology in total publications, as well as a small general impact, according to the H specialized index (1, 2, and no calculation in 99 % of cases). It is possible to identify a recurrent group of researchers in all the estimations. Conclusions: Results are discussed considering the institutionalization of environmental psychology in Colombia through interdisciplinary relations, emphasizing environmental education. - Abstract
Since the appearance of Areography and the consolidation of macroecology in the '80s, research focused on the general laws that govern the distribution of organisms on the planet has increased markedly. Eduardo Rapoport has left a legacy in Argentina and in the world. We ask to what extent Argentinian ecologists incorporate the macroecological approach, interact with foreign researchers, are inserted in the international level and what are the main focuses of their studies. We searched for articles in Scopus containing the words macroecología, areografía, macroecology and areography, and Argentina in the affiliation. We found 253 articles that show that, with a decade of delay, the number of macroecological articles published by Argentinian authors over time increases with a trend similar to the global one. Currently, 30 citations are made to Areography per year in international studies. Most of the Argentinian authors published a maximum of two articles, while the minority published between 3 and 22, suggesting that the increasing trend is based on eventual contributions rather than on research programs on macroecology. Most of the Argentinian articles focused on the study of distribution areas, geographic species ranges and their patterns and species richness. The most studied taxonomic group was that of invertebrates, likely explained by Argentinian macroecology idiosyncrasy. In 70% of the studies, the correspondence author was Argentinian, suggesting a leading role. The journals in which Argentinian manuscripts were published most frequently matched with those where international papers were published. Argentina is clearly inserted in international macroecology; the establishment of regular programs with a macroecological focus is a relatively vacant area plenty of possibilities for its expansion. QUANTITATIVE research , *SCIENTOMETRICS ,RESEARCH evaluation - Abstract
This work discusses the current debate between the use of qualitative approaches versus the use of quantitative indicators in research evaluation. It argues that too much importance is currently given to the methods and criteria employed in evaluation instead of discussing the most essential issue: the goal that evaluation pursues and how different research activities are valued. To finish, some design problems of the Spanish research evaluation system are highlighted because those problems act as a barrier towards a more contextualized and responsible evaluation system. Higher education sectors have become highly competitive. This has led the participating institutions to respond to changes in the social environment with improvements in the quality of their academic supply. To analyze the academic research, scientometrics is used on the production documented in WoS. There are 120 contemporary prolific authors who present a high concentration in the category education and educational research, as well as in the journals where they publish and the universities to which they are affiliated. CURRICULUM , *GEOMETRIC congruences , *MULTIVARIATE analysis , *GRADUATION (Education) , *COUNTRIES , *SOCIAL indicators , *CLASSIFICATION - Abstract
The objective of this study is to evaluate the congruence between the country classifications obtained from the Scimago Journal and Country Rank (SCIJCR) indicators, and those provided by the RICYT, taking as study units 11 Ibero-American countries, during 2006-2017. Thirty-four input/output indicators were taken as variables, 11 from SCIJCR, and 23 from RICYT. The similarity relationships among the countries and the indicators were represented by means of phenograms (Ward's method) and the congruence among the classifications of the countries was represented by strict consensus trees and quantified by means of a consensus index. The main conclusions of the study indicate that: 1) The classification of countries based on the 34 indicators corresponds to their size (e.g., socioeconomic development, population) and to the respective scientific traditions; 2) The indicators show a complex grouping patterns, not observing groupings based on the different typologies (e.g., production, impact, input, context); 3) The vast majority of the SCIJCR indicators show close mutual links, producing redundant information; 4) The percentage of international collaboration is only related to values of moderate similarity with the citations per document, so it does not agree with the idea that the number of citations is directly proportional to international collaboration; 5) Taking into account the results obtained, the most profitable investments in terms of production, impact, and impact and production, are those measured by graduation indicators (graduates), R&D spending (in dollars, expressed in PPP), and number of researchers in R&D; 6) The lack of congruence observed when comparing country rankings from only one source (i.e., SCIJCR or RICYT) contradicts the simplistic idea that scientific results can be predicted only from invested resources; 7) Comparing the classification of countries based on all the indicators with those produced based on one or the other (i.e., SCIJCR or RICYT) produces few common groups. This can be explained from issues intrinsic to the analysis, such as the different number of indicators, and the redundancy of the information provided by the vast majority of the SCIJCR. This means that the SCIJCR indicators have a lower weight than those of the RICYT, when it comes to differentiating groups of countries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BIBLIOMETRICS , *PSYCHOLOGY , *SCIENTOMETRICS , *SCIENCE databases , *HISTORY of psychology , *PSYCHOLOGY periodicals , *AUTHORSHIP collaboration , *EDUCATIONAL psychology - Abstract
Bibliometry consists on the mathematical and statistical treatment of published scientific information. This methodology, or technique (following some authors), includes the quantification of bibliographic information that can be analyzed. Bibliometric and qualitative data reviews can be combined in order to offer high-quality conclusions. For more than three decades, bibliometric studies have proliferated with different uses, orientations, and applications in Ibero-American psychology. All the classic areas of psychology (basic psychological processes, clinical and health psychology, organizational and work psychology, educational psychology), as well as new areas, such as sports psychology, traffic psychology, consumer psychology, and others have been subject of bibliometric works. Several productions can be recognized where bibliometry is used for historical analysis, review of specialized literature, scientific journals analysis, and the recognition of different areas of research. The goal of this work is to provide a metabibliometric analysis, that is, a bibliometry of bibliometric studies. It is a descriptive study in which different documentary sources are retrieved, classified, and analyzed based on the proper procedure of bibliometric studies. This study examined the scientific and scholarly productions in the field of Ibero-American psychology, using three specific databases: Dialnet (Spain), Redalyc (Mexico), and SciELO (Brazil). The choice of such databases was because they provide the indexation of a large number of psychology journals and also allow free access to their contents, which gives some coverage to the psychological production of the Ibero-Ame-rican region. The search was guided by the following general descriptors: "Bibliometric" and "Psychology", present in any of the search fields of these databases. These two words are functionally equivalent to detect items in Spanish and Portuguese (because all articles have abstracts in English). Interdisciplinary studies were ruled out, and those clearly outside of psychological science or the profession of psychology. The final refined sample of 81 articles were classified according to the following indicators: a) lines of research; b) more frequent authors; c) countries of the authors; d) range of years of publications; e) language of the publications; f) gender in the writing of the works; g) the journals that published the most bibliometric studies; and h) the most analyzed journals from the bibliometric perspective. The vast majority of articles are from the present century (70), which highlights the recent explosion of work in the field. For reference only, eight articles were published in the 1990s, 34 articles were published in the 2000s, and 36 articles were published in the current half-decade. The language of the articles is distributed as follows: 71 in Spanish (88 %), 5 in English (6 %), and 5 in Portuguese (6 %). The proportion by gender of correspondence authors reflects that 40 % are women (33 articles), and 60 % are men (48 articles), always considering the first signatory in cases of multiple authorship. The countries according to the correspondence author, taking the first author in the cases of multiple authors hips, are: Spain (45), Colombia (15), Argentina (6), Brazil (5), Mexico (4), Chile (3), Peru (2) and Costa Rica (1). Results confirm that the bibliometric research design is a consistent methodological approach to evaluate the field of psychology as a discipline and a professional practice in Ibero-America. These results do not reflect the entire set of bibliometric research in Ibero-American psychology. However, they can also be considered as a representative map of bibliometric studies in the region. The most significant criticism that can be indicated for these bibliometric studies is the abusive descriptive perspective that appears in them. It would be desirable for this kind of research to incorporate other analytical perspectives to go beyond the purely descriptive, which could obtain greater interpretative and explanatory potential regarding what was investigated. HISTORY of research , *BIBLIOMETRICS , *SOCIOLOGY , *METHODOLOGY - Abstract
This article addresses the state of the art of researches that have analyzed the history of scientific production in Latin America from the perspective of historical bibliometrics. First, an approach to the history of bibliometrics is shown, emphasizing that this has not been a tool for the exclusive use of functionalist sociology, but it has been linked from its beginnings to other disciplines such as history. Second, it is shown that in Latin America there have been critical interpretations regarding the discouraging diagnoses presented by international bibliographic indexes about the low productivity and visibility of science in this region, establishing that the proliferation of historical bibliometric researches is framed in this context, like those advanced in Colombia and Mexico. Third, the researches carried out in these countries are analyzed, specifying their main topics, methodologies, and sources of interest. Finally, it is concluded that these works offer important inputs for reinterpreting the history of the dynamics of scientific communication in the region, presenting a general proposal of some of its possible future directions. SCIENTIFIC communication , *WEB 2.0 , *TECHNOLOGICAL innovations , *SOCIAL networks - Abstract
Scientific research in the communication field has experienced great growth in recent years. Recent technological changes, as well as the emergence of Web 2.0 and 3.0 and new forms of communication, such as social networks, have led to new and varied studies in the discipline. This paper analyzes the scientific production of the 27 countries with the greatest scientific production in the communication field in the period from 2003 to 2018. The results indicate that: the most productive countries are the USA, UK, and Spain; there is less international collaboration than in other disciplines, but there is a network of European collaboration that is quite dense and has great impact, and another network in Pacific countries (Asia + Oceania), albeit with lower density and impact. - Abstract
The goal for Revista Cartográfica to publish a minimum of 45 articles per year has been raised in order to be considered to enter the SciELO catalog. To assess the feasibility of the objective, an estimate of the volume of scientific production of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History member countries in the area of Geographic Information Science has been attempted for the first time. A bibliometric analysis of the articles published in a representative set of international journals was performed, filtering those whose authors are from countries in the region. The US was excluded because of its high relative weight in this scientific area. The main conclusion is that the goal of capturing part of these works and thus more than duplicating the material published today in Revista Cartográfica seems difficult to achieve in the short term. It will be necessary to interest authors from outside the region, who typically first take into account the journal's categorization, a categorization that has not yet been achieved, thus forming a vicious circle of difficult solution. Subsidiarily, a country-discriminated analysis has been carried out that could be used in future works to identify active research groups and research lines in the region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this article is to explore the model of diffusion of the innovations suggested by Rogers applying it to the producers of the literature published on the "metrics" in Mexico. As units of analysis were taken each of the articles published in academic journals, book chapters, and papers presented at conferences that addressed some of the aspects of metric studies or the applications of these techniques in a discipline or subfield in Mexico or by Mexicans who published documents on this matter outside of Mexico. The period covered ranges from the first papers published at the beginning of the 1970s up to December 2017. 690 documents were produced and published by 1410 different authors in the research period. The theory of the diffusion of innovations helps to accompany the historical development of Mexican bibliometrics by adequately identifying its innovators, initial adopters, and other categories of the theory of the diffusion of innovations of Rogers. On the occasion of the commemoration of the 25 years of the journal Tecné, Episteme and Didaxis - ted, this article communicates the results of a historical- documentary investigation in which, from the methodological perspective of the scientometric studies, the contributions of this means of circulation of scientific knowledge are analyzed, in the consolidation of the Research Group Representations and Scientific Concepts. The work carried out focuses both on the tracking of the contributions undertaken by this academic group during the validity of the journal - characterizing the main lines of research, thematic areas, methodologies, among other aspects -, as in the analysis of citations that the community of specialists has done on some of these articles. It is concluded that, celebrating 25 years of existence, this journal represents a fundamental scenario in the development and dynamics of academic groups such as the one reported here, at the institutional, local, national and Latin American level. - Abstract
A discussion on the new metrics for the measurement of science and the direction that the system must take in terms of evaluation of scientific production is presented. The differentiation between some of the proposals presented to the European Commission and the AmeliCA developments is proposed. We observe the importance to recognize concepts that describe the development of science, not only from the visibility perspective, including those means derived from open science, but also the recovery of aspects such as the creation of communities, training, communicability, among other issues. The role of the metrics is highlighted especially as a tool for decision making and a form of accountability to society. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

From an historical analysis as well as considering the scientific, economical, social and political facts and consequences of scientific publications, a critical and updated review of scientific journals is made using a research perspective. It realizes the changes in the communication of Science, especially through twenty centuries. The historical analysis reveals that valuation of scientific knowledge, did not originate for commercial reasons, but responds to the political and economic evolution of society. The current situation of scientific publications reveals its enormous contribution to both knowledge and human development, but also inequities, social, economic and ethical conflicts.
