The international team that developed the MIRI instrument for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has been awarded the prestigious group achievement prize by the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS). MIRI, designed and built by an international consortium, is one of the four instruments on the JWST and is the only one that covers the mid-infrared spectral range. Spanish participation in the development of MIRI has been significant, with collaboration between the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA). The MIRI scientific team is leading studies on the first galaxies in the Universe, exoplanets and protoplanetary disks, and nuclear regions and black holes in nearby galaxies.
