Cryotherapy is a freeze-thaw treatment using liquid nitrogen on the skin, with side effects such as subcutaneous emphysema. The aim of this study was to report a case of subcutaneous emphysema associated with intralesional cryotherapy of a keloid on the thorax. Additionally, we performed a systematic search of cases in Embase, PubMed and BIREME using the keywords "cryotherapy" and "subcutaneous emphysema". In the literature, there are cases of post-cryotherapy subcutaneous emphysema for oncologic indications (6/11), keloids (3/11), and fistulous tracts in hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) (2/11); in the head (4/11), thorax (2/11), neck and thorax (2/11) and upper limb (2/11). At least one risk factor explaining post-cryotherapy subcutaneous emphysema is described, such as ulcers, curettage, previous infiltrations, atrophic skin due to sun damage or use of corticosteroids, and insufflation of fistulous tracts. The use of optical imaging technology in recent years has improved diagnostics in the dermatology area. The techniques that can be named are optical coherence tomography, Raman spectroscopy, and optoacoustic imaging. Each technique has applications in general medicine and dermatology but with their respective limitations and focus. This work reviews the imaging techniques in general, prioritizing the theoretical background that allows the technique to operate, and then an image example obtained with the technique is shown. Then, an extensive review of the techniques of hyperspectral imaging and hyperspectral polarized dermatoscope is made. Finally, we talk about new trends in optical imaging future. BACKGROUND: Trichotillomania is defined by the DSM-5 as a disorder in which the patient pulls out their hair on a consistent basis, whether it be hair from the scalp, eyebrows, or any other region of their body. It causes significant functional impairment. This disorder is considered among the compulsive obsessive disorders. The areas most frequently affected are scalp, eyebrows, eye lashes and pubic hair. Lifetime prevalence is estimated between 0.6-1%. CLINICAL CASE: A 51-year-old female patient, who had presented symptoms of anxiety for the past 11 years. In the past 4 years symptoms had worsen progressively with compulsive night hair pulling which intensified after social stressors. At external inspection at the frontoparietal area of the scalp we found a localized alopecia with an irregular circumference of approximately 10 cm in diameter, so secondary neuromechanical alopecia was diagnosed. CONCLUSIONS: In several psychopathologies, hair pulling can be a symptom, so a psychiatric consult is very important to evaluate comorbidities and classify the symptom of hair pulling within the clinical picture. Like other dermatoses of psychic origin, the diagnosis of trichotillomania does not imply that these patients should be treated only by the psychiatrist. OBJECTIVE: To determine if values of serum ferritin level ≤ 70 ng/mL represents a factor associated to the risk for diffuse alopecia in female patients among 12 and 50 years old. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An observational, retrospective, analytical, case-control study was carried out in patients treated at the dermatology service of the Hospital Belen de Trujillo, Peru, from January 2015 to December 2021. Clinical and demographic data were collected, as well as levels of serum ferritin. Patients with other comorbidities that could be etiological factors of alopecia were excluded. RESULTS: Seventeen-eight female patients were included. They were grouped into 39 cases with a diagnosis of diffuse alopecia, while another 39 controls without diffuse alopecia. Low serum ferritin levels were found in 28% of the patients in the diffuse alopecia group, while in the control, 90% had serum ferritin levels within normal values. Patients with serum ferritin levels ≤ 70 ng/mL had a 3.43-fold increased risk of developing diffuse alopecia compared with patients with ferritin levels > 70 ng/mL (OR 3.4375; 95%CI: 0.98-11.97, p < 0.05). The skin is an important organ. Its function is influenced by the environment, as it is involved with the identity of the subject, self-esteem, and functions as the letter of identification of the person. The unbalance between mind and skin may cause certain diseases. Psycodermatology is a branch of Dermatology which works with the association between certain dermatological diseases and associated psychiatric illnesses. Many times, psychiatric diseases may trigger skin diseases, which means that a proper identification, diagnosis and treatment of these illnesses is a key piece, while a proper referral to mental health services is essential for an integral approach and treatment. We made a review of literature by means of the PubMed database from the years 2010 to 2021about psychodermatology, including the most relevant articles for our review. The keywords used for the search were dermatology, psychiatry, psychodermatology, somatic diseases, psychiatric skin diseases. We included articles in English or Spanish. We found 84 related articles but included only 30 relevant to our search and excluded 54 of them for lack of relevance. It is important to mention the finding of a lack of interdisciplinary work between Dermatology and Psychiatry for the proper diagnosis and approach of this group of diseases; emotional triggers may exacerbate the patient's skin illnesses. BACKGROUND: Histoplasmosis is the most common endemic systemic mycosis in Latin America. The causal agent is Histoplasma capsulatum, a dimorphic fungus, which after being inhaled as microconidia turns into yeast when entering the human body. It is found on land, in plant debris, and can be isolated from the guano of bats and some birds. Its prevalence has increased due to the use of immunosuppressive drugs and the increasing cases of HIV. In immunocompetent hosts, the infection may be asymptomatic and self-limited. The most common manifestation is acute pulmonary infection. However, immunosuppressed or extremely aged patients can have a wide variety of clinical presentations and extrapulmonary involvement. Its clinical manifestations are diverse, including acute, subacute, and chronic forms, with varying degrees of severity. CLINICAL CASES: We present two clinical cases, one in an immunocompromised patient with HIV who debuted with a nasal ulcer and another immunocompetent patient with oral lesions; we discuss the main points to consider in this disease. CONCLUSIONS: We emphasize the importance of having present this disease even in immunocompetent patients, in whom, despite being infrequent, mucocutaneous lesions may appear due to this infection. Dapsone was discovered in 1908, it is a drug prescribed in inflammatory and infectious diseases. It is the first line treatment mainly in skin diseases with an accumulation of neutrophils and eosinophils. It is metabolized by two enzymatic pathways N-acetylation and N-hydroxylation. OBJECTIVE: To recount the immunopathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 infection and its skin manifestations. METHODOLOGY: A literature search was performed in the MEDLINE database through the PubMed search engine with the terms "SARS-CoV-2", "SARS-CoV", "Covid-19", "Skin", "Dermatology", "Cutaneous", "Immunology", "Immune". RESULTS: In COVID-19 disease, multiple pathophysiological mechanisms are described, among which the binding of the virus to the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors in endothelial cells that facilitate the involvement of adjuvant skin, the depletion of T lymphocytes (LT), the generation of a cytokine storm and the activation of macrophages, among others. CONCLUSIONS: An update is made on the knowledge about the immunopathogenesis of COVID-19 and its main cutaneous manifestations, highlighting the need to carry out more research studies that allow a better understanding of it and the creation of possible therapeutic targets. Objective: To determine the clinical and socio demographic features of patients attended at a public hospital in Trujillo, Peru. Methods: A cross-sectional study that included 385 skin biopsies obtained from the archives of the Pathology Department and from the clinical charts of these patients at Hospital Belen in Trujillo from January 2018 to December 2019 was carried-out. Results: The most common entity was basocellular carcinoma located on the face in patients above 60 years of age. The second most common entity was epidermoid carcinoma. Malignant lesions affected 66.7% of patients between 55 and 79 years of age with a mean of 67 years. Most of the patients were unemployed males (65.8%). The most common benign lesion was the epidemic inclusion cyst mostly in the trunk among males from 20 to 24 years of age. The second most common benign lesion was the pilomatrixoma mostly located in the upper limbs of patients below 10 years of age. Benign lesions affected the 59.6% of the sample between 30 to 54 years of age with a mean of 44 years, mostly among housewives. Most of the patients came from districts of Trujillo. The causal agent was not identified. Conclusions: In mestizo patients both benign and malignant lesions had a clinical presentation similar as reported in the literature regarding location, age and gender distribution. This article addresses the concept of community social dermatology based on the significant experience of training in the dermatology specialization program of the Universidad Libre de Cali and its relationship with other experiences of social dermatology in Latin America. Likewise, highlight the importance of open training scenarios for working with populations. In this sense, a review of scientific production on social dermatology in the context of Latin America was conducted and contrasted with the missionary proposal of the Universidad Libre de Cali. Finally, reflections and conclusions are presented aimed at recognizing the relevance of social dermatology and the important challenges that exist in the national context for its dissemination, application, and recognition. Introduction. About 80-95% of patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) develop skin manifestations, which are markers of the patients' immune status. Objective. To describe the dermatologic manifestations and the clinical and sociodemographic factors of hospitalized patients diagnosed with HIV and their correlation with CD4 T-lymphocyte count. Materials and methods. We conducted an observational, cross-sectional, and retrospective study of the medical records of 227 adult patients with HIV diagnosis evaluated by dermatology in a hospital in Medellín, Colombia. Results. We included 227 patient records with 433 dermatologic manifestations, 64.4% of them infectious. The most frequent manifestations were oral candidiasis, condylomata acuminata, and drug reactions. Moreover, a statistically significant relationship was found between disseminated herpes zoster virus and secondary syphilis with a CD4 count between 200-499 cells/mm3 (p=0.04 and 0.028, respectively). There was also a statistically significant relationship between oral candidiasis and a CD4 count of less than 100 cells/mm3 (p=0.008). Conclusions. The relationship between disseminated herpes zoster with CD4 between 200-499 cells/mm3 suggests that, despite having high CD4 counts, severe forms of the disease may occur due to possible T-cell dysfunction and depletion of the immune system. Additionally, the relationship between oral candidiasis and CD4 less than 100 cells/mm3 indicates the potential role of oral candidiasis as an essential marker of weakened immune status in HIV patients. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the dermatology course for specialists in medical sciences in the Escuela Nacional de Medicina, Mexico. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A historical research was carried out that consisted in the review of primary sources with emphasis on those belonging to the Historical archive of the Faculty of Medicine, UNAM, and the teachers' writings. RESULTS: The creation of the dermatology course for specialists in medical sciences of the Escuela Nacional de Medicina, Mexico, was due to the interaction of the following factors: the relative political stability existing in the country at the beginning of the 20th century that favored the development of science, the high frequency of infectious skin diseases and the professional interests of teachers. CONCLUSIONS: Dermatology course for specialists in medical sciences at the Escuela Nacional de Medicina represents a sample of the interest of the doctors to contribute through teaching to the solution of health problems that have affected the Mexican population. Introduction: Photodamage is the aggression caused by solar radiation in the skin. In turn, the ultraviolet radiation is one of the first agents considered as cancer generators. Objective: Characterize the patients with cutaneous neoplasms and other affections caused by photodamage, according to selected clinical variables. Methods: A cross-sectional, observational, clinical, descriptive and retrospective study of 64 patients diagnosed with some affection caused by photodamage was carried out, belonging to the health area of the doctor office No. 11 of Achiles Espinosa Salgado Polyclinic in Las Tunas, from January, 2020 to the same period in 2022. Some variables were analyzed, such as age, sex, color of the skin, skin photo type, occupation, regular use of solar protection means before the 18 years and now, as well as dermatologic disease caused by photodamage. Results: There was a prevalence of the 60 years and over age group (43.7 %), female sex (54.7 %), color of the skin white (98.5 %), skin photo type III (59.4 %) and the state workers (53.1 %). It was found that 90.6 % of the patients didn't have history of exhibition to non ultraviolet radiations; 25.0 % referred to use some means of protection regularly before the 18 years and 51.5 % use it at the moment. The dermatologic disease caused by photodamage that prevailed was the skin cancer (37.5 %). Conclusions: This study denoted the relevance and necessity to identify the clinical characteristics of the patients with affections caused by photodamage in the doctor office abovementioned. OBJECTIVE: To determine the relationship between the 2D:4D digital index and the presence and severity of acne vulgaris in patients who attended a dermatological consultation at a regional hospital. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cross-sectional analytical study, carried out from January to June 2016 in patients older than 12 years with and without a diagnosis of acne vulgaris and without androgenizing diseases and matched according to sex who were treated in the Dermatology service of the Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo, Peru, in which the 2D:4D digital index was determined through a vernier caliper and its relationship with the diagnosis and severity of acne vulgaris through a t test for independent samples. RESULTS: A total of 245 patients diagnosed with acne vulgaris and 245 controls were included in the study. The frequency of the severity of mild, moderate, moderately severe and severe acne vulgaris was 25.3%, 53.5%, 7.8% and 13.5%, respectively. The mean of the 2D:4D digital index in male patients with acne vulgaris was 0.917 and 0.937 of the right and left hand, respectively, while in female patients with acne vulgaris it was 0.930 and 0.941 of the right and left hand, respectively. The t test for independent samples of both variables in both groups had a p value greater than 0.05. CONCLUSIONS: There is no significant relationship between the 2D:4D digital ratio and the presence and severity of acne vulgaris, mainly due to the fact that the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris is multifactorial. Background: the incidence of skin cancer has tripled, so knowledge about risk factors and prevention is necessary for the general practitioner in training. Objective: to diagnose the way in which the prevention of skin cancer is approached in the Dermatology subject. Methods: pedagogical research developed at the Cienfuegos University of Medical Sciences. The requirements for the treatment of the prevention of skin cancer in the Dermatology subject were analyzed. An interview was applied to an intentional sample of Dermatology professors and student surveys. The analysis of guiding documents, programs, etc. was carried out. Results: students receive the subject during their fifth year of the degree. All the professors agree that within the prevention topics taught in the career, the one related to skin cancer is not addressed; the 82.8% refer that the subject is addressed in a conference; basically the diagnosis of sick patients and the aspects of prevention are used with less relevance. All students agree that skin cancer is never mentioned as an important location that is susceptible to preventive measures; the 85.7% refer that it is a very long topic and more emphasis is placed on diagnosing injuries, classifying them, treating them and not on how to prevent them, in addition, many patients are not observed in practice in order to identify them. Conclusions: the way in which the topic of skin cancer prevention is approached in the Dermatology subject is not enough for what the general practitioner needs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: In December 2019, the largest pandemic we have faced in recent years began. As of the last day of August 2020 more than 25 million cases had been reported with more than 800,000 deaths worldwide caused by the disease called COVID-19. Manifestations of the disease include fever, dry cough, headache and anosmia, among others. With the advance of the pandemic, dermatologists around the world have published data on the skin manifestations of the disease, seeking to contribute to a better diagnosis. Likewise, there have been dermatological manifestations in health personnel and the general population derived from the use of personal protection and adverse effects of hygiene products. OBJECTIVES: To review dermatological manifestations related to COVID-19, as well as to review on prevention and treatment of cutaneous lesions in health professionals due to the use of personal protection equipment. METHODOLOGY: A review of the cases published from January 1st to August 29th, 2020 on the PubMed server was carried out with the keywords "Dermatology AND COVID-19". RESULTS: One hundred and sixty-two clinical cases were found in 102 publications. The average age of patients was 42.6 years with a median of 40. Regarding the sex when it was registered, the manifestations were more frequent in the female (48.76%). The skin lesions were very varied and the most frequently reported were acroischemic lesions, also described as perniosis, rashes or erythematous plaques, and urticaria. CONCLUSIONS: The role of dermatology in a pandemic of this magnitude is of vital importance in various areas; such as the investigation of possible cutaneous manifestations that facilitate the diagnosis or provide new information. to reduce or prevent injuries caused by protective equipment in health personnel. Introduction: The training management and the improvement of the academic postdegree programs are urgency necessities for the permanent training of the professionals in the Cuban universities of medical sciences. Objective: To socialize the systematized experiences in the processes of quality management of the postdegree programs in two medical specialties. Methods: A diagnosis and an external evaluation of the post degree academic programs in the specialties of Internal Medicine and Dermatology were carried out in the Medical Sciences University in Santiago de Cuba, in the months of May and September, 2019 respectively, where the observation of the different activities of each program was considered through the development of the six established variables for it, which contributed to reveal the main strengths and weaknesses of these study programs. Results: The integral analysis of the programs evidenced, during the process of external evaluation, the fulfillment of the established standards in the quality pattern, reason why it was unanimously decided, in the 49 Session Agreement of the National Accreditation Meeting from October, 2019, to grant them the accreditation higher category of Excellency Program. Conclusions: It could be demonstrated that in the training management of both specialties, as academic figures of postdegree, have been revealed with assertiveness the pertinent impacts for the National System of Public Health. OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence and association between body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) and social anxiety (SA) in dermatologic outpatients who attended a private clinic in Lima, Peru. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A transversal analytic study was done from January to May 2018 in which the Body Dysmorphic Disorder Questionnaire was used to measure body dysmorphic disorder and the Liebowitz Scale for Social Anxiety was used to assess social anxiety These were previously translated and validated to Spanish. RESULTS: Six hundred ninety participants were enrolled; the majority (61.1%) were females. The median age was 34 years and the vast majority (52.7%) did not have a partner at the moment that the questionnaire was taken. The prevalence of body dysmorphic disorder was 52% and social anxiety was 18.8%. An association between body dysmorphic disorder and social anxiety was found and also between age and social anxiety. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of body dysmorphic disorder and social anxiety is high in patients attending dermatological consultation; presence of body dysmorphic disorder increases the risk of suffering social anxiety. BACKGROUND: Pyodermia gangrenosum is a neutrophilic inflammatory disease skin condition that can be associated with other autoinflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and intestinal inflammatory disease. It has a low incidence in Toluca City. Pyodermia gangrenosum pathophysiology is not well established and it can be classified morphologically as ulcerative, bullous, pustular, periostomal and vegetative. Ulcerative pyodermia gangrenosum is the most common variant and it's localized predominantly in lower extremities. Pyodermia gangrenosum is currently diagnosed clinically and by histopathologic studies, but it can be misdiagnosed by primary care physicians delaying an optimal treatment. Hence, it's important teaching pyodermia gangrenosum in continuing medical education. CLINICAL CASES: Three patients (one male and two females), of 56, 63 and 92 years old, with pyodermia gangrenosum, misdiagnosed as venous ulcers, and treated by dermatology service in the Hospital General ISSSTE in Toluca City, State of Mexico. CONCLUSIONS: Pyodermia gangrenosum, although little frequent in our environment, is relevant due to its clinical evolution and because of its association to other autoinflammatory diseases, quality life of patients may be affected. Introduction: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has caused an interruption in the provision of health services around the world, thus modifying the practice of medicine. Dermatology, a medical-surgical specialty in which there is close contact with the patient, has experienced a reduction in the number of consultations, cancellation of surgical and dermo-cosmetic procedures, in compliance with national and international recommendations and guidelines. Materials and methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study by means of a survey applied electronically to Colombian dermatologists, members of the Colombian Association of Dermatology and Dermatological Surgery. The objective of this study was to determine the magnitude of the impact of the SARS-CoV2 pandemic on the practice of Colombian dermatologists. Results: 74% of the respondents had suspension of the dermatological consultation, 83% of dermatological procedures and only 6% assisted emergency patients during the mandatory confinement. Secondary to the COVID-19 pandemic, 79% of Colombian dermatologists introduced the telemedicine modality and the costs associated with compliance with biosafety regulations generated unforeseen expenses for 20% of those surveyed. Conclusions: The current situation is a great challenge for Dermatology, which must not only mitigate the biological risk derived from the return to its face-to-face activities, but also know and implement preventive measures that protect health and common welfare, while strengthening the conditions for a safe and quality exercise, supported by new technologies. Introduction: Teledermatology has been introduced as a novel diagnostic tool for the daily dermatology practice. Several aspects explain why teledermatology would have a huge potential in a country like our own. Up to this date, a very few studies about the subject, and none of them quantify the field impact of large-scale teledermatology programs in Colombian population. Material and methods: This was a retrospective observational study, accomplished within the program of teledermatology of the Universidad de Caldas, between 2002 and 2012. The sociodemographic features, frequency of disease, diagnosis agreement between to the general physician and dermatologist, resolution capacity, reasons for referral to face-to-face consultation and the difficulties present while making a diagnostic were studied. Results: A sample of 4333 consults with 4713 dermatologic diagnoses were analyzed. The inflammatory diseases were the most frequent diagnosis group (49%), followed by benign neoplasms (19%). The percentage aggregate agreement between diagnoses was 52.4%. The resolution capacity was achieved of 66%. The main reason for a referral was the need diagnostic confirmation. In some cases (2.2%), due to low quality imaging, the dermatologists have had difficulties while providing with a diagnostic. Conclusions: The distribution of the sociodemographic characteristics and dermatological diseases is similar to the ones found in previous studies. The resolution capacity achieved with teledermatology is representative enough to avoid almost half of the referrals to the face-to-face consultation. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may impact the therapeutic strategy of psoriasis, due to the extensive skin damage and the possible immunosuppressive or immunomodulatory effects of biological therapies, could be an increased risk of virus infection, on these patients; therefore, the aim of this expert opinion based on a narrative literature review is to present general recommendations on ambulatory care and treatment of psoriasis patients, during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is evident that psoriasis patients with COVID-19, should be evaluated for the risk-benefit ratio of any immunosuppressive therapeutic intervention. Lipschütz ulcer is an entity of undetermined origin, characterized by the acute appearance of a vulvar ulcer, generally single, big-sized and with well-defined borders, in an adolescent or young woman without an active sexual life. Its diagnosis is usually a challenge for the health professional, since it is a rare and little reported disease. The scientific evidence of cutaneous manifestation produced by the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus (COVID- 19) is increasing. The exacerbation of pre-existing skin diseases and injuries due to prolonged use of personal protection elements are emerging. Dermatology specialists must know them and guide in prevention and treatment as well. This article reviews the skin manifestations in patients with COVID-19, cutaneous lesions that have arisen in health workers, the perspective of teledermatology as a tool to fight against the pandemics, some special considerations, and protection of skin and mucous membranes. Antecedentes: las neoplasias de piel son quizá las más frecuentes en los caninos cuando se hacen análisis sobre presentación del cáncer. La histopatología es más sensible que otras técnicas (como la citología, por ejemplo) para la mayoría de los diagnósticos‚ con algunas excepciones como es el caso del mastocitoma que puede ser fácilmente graduado por un patólogo con experiencia en este sistema orgánico. Metodología: se revisaron 143 casos de caninos que llegaron para diagnóstico al laboratorio de patología de la Universidad de Caldas. Las biopsias de piel recibidas fueron procesadas por inclusión en parafina‚ cortadas en micrótomo (3 micras) y coloreadas con hematoxilina & eosina. La visualización y el diagnóstico fue realizada por un patólogo con experiencia en este sistema orgánico. Resultados: el diagnóstico más frecuente resultó ser el mastocitoma de bajo grado de malignidad con 13 casos (9‚1 %)‚ seguido por el Carcinoma espinocelular con 12 casos (8‚4 %)‚ Fibroma 12 (8‚4 %) y Hemangioma cutáneo 10 (7 %). Otros 96 casos (67‚1 %) individualmente representaron menos del 5 % de la presentación e incluyeron diagnósticos como: Papiloma‚ Epitelioma basocelular‚ Trichoepitelioma‚ Tumor Venéreo Transmisible y Linfoma cutáneo entre otros. Entre las razas de perros afectados se encontró el mestizo‚ el french poodle‚ labrador‚ golden retriever‚ snawzer‚ entre otros (no se realizó análisis de morbilidad proporcional). Con relación a la localización anatómica‚ prevalecieron las regiones del abdomen‚ miembros pélvicos y cabeza. Conclusión: las neoplasias malignas siguen prevaleciendo sobre las benignas por lo que se debe tener prudencia a la hora de considerar nodulectomías‚ siempre debe aproximarse el diagnóstico con técnicas de mínima invasión como la citología. El mastocitoma sigue siendo la neoplasia más diagnosticada en la piel de los caninos y teniendo en cuenta su comportamiento biológico maligno‚ se sugiere generar más información sobre la forma de hacer diagnóstico precoz y abordaje clínico quirúrgico para garantizar éxito en el tratamiento de este tipo de neoplasia. There is no doubt that nobody was prepared for the changes we have been experiencing since the SARS-CoV 2 emerged in China. The occupation of hospitals to deal with this pandemic has raised the implementation of telemedicine to continue monitoring chronic diseases, and dermatology has not been the exception. Likewise, the training of specialists must continue, so digital education is more than ever a useful tool, but also a challenge for our specialty in which direct visualization of the dermatological lesions is often necessary. Introduction: Psoriasis is a systemic disease frequently observed in the dermatology clinic, with a high impact on the mood of the patient, however in Ecuador there are no statistical data available regarding the prevalence of depression in patients with psoriasis, so the present study was conducted. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted in 82 psoriatic patients from the outpatient service of the Dermatology Service of the Carlos Andrade Marín Hospital, in Quito. The Beck test was applied to determine depression and the psoriasis severity scale (PASI). We performed a logistic regression model for depression adjusted for: sex, age groups, personal history of type 2 diabetes mellitus, personal history of arterial hypertension, personal history of hypothyroidism, type of topical treatment used, systemic treatment, biological therapy and scale of severity of psoriasis. Results: The prevalence of depression was 24.4%. An association was found between the severity of psoriasis and depression (χ2=15.442, p<0.001), together with a significant correlation between the PASI scale and the Beck depression score (r=0.420, p<0.001). According to the multivariate analysis, the variables that showed the greatest influence for depression were severe psoriasis (OR: 35.75, 95%CI: 2.72- 469.25, p<0.01) and female sex (OR: 3.54; 95% CI: 1.02- 12.92, p=0.04). Conclusions: Patients with psoriasis show a high prevalence of depression, which is associated with greater severity of psoriasis and female sex. It is suggested a multidisciplinary management of patients with psoriasis that includes psychological and psychiatric assessment and follow-up in order to detect this type of pathologies in a timely manner. It is very frequent to see patients with skin diseases at the emergency room, therefore the emergency physicians or the first contact physicians, should be prepared to recognize and differentiate between diseases that can immediately endanger the life of the patient and others that are not as serious but, because of the amount or the extension of the lesions can be confused with true cutaneous emergencies. There are few skin diseases that can immediately be life threatening, these are the absolute emergencies. They should be treated without delay; otherwise there is a high risk of death or irreversible sequelae. Among these we can mention drug eruptions such as toxic epidermal necrolysis / Stevens - Johnson syndrome, the drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), erythroderma from multiple causes, among others. The great majority of the cases, however, are relative emergencies. In this group, because of the shocking appearance of the lesions, patients come into the emergency room with high levels of anxiety and concern; but their lives are not in an immediate danger. Art and medicine have been bounded since the beginning of time for being intrinsically related to men and its existence, as it can be deduced from the multiple artistic works, especially paintings. Since very early in time and through history, artists have reflected in their art pieces the skin characteristics and its changes through life, as well as dermatological illnesses due to the fact that the majority of them are visible. Multiple doctors from different places who have been interested in the permanent process of acculturization have done important works in the search of skin manifestation in art. I present this article as a contribution towards that purpose, focusing in the physiological aspects of the skin, the cares that it needs and the changes in skin caused by time and external factors. Risk management in health care services is a process that takes into account the planning and implementation of strategies aimed at controlling possible adverse effects that arise during the attention to users, quality of service, and patient safety. This article reports on the development of the risk management system for the mission processes of the Dermatology Section of the Universidad de Antioquia, as well as on the main results obtained to date and the way in which the Quality Management System (under the ISO 9001 standard) worked as a complement and support to the implemented risk management system. Five inherent risks were identified for the Dermatopathology Laboratory, six for Other Dermatological Procedures, and eight for the Photodermatology Unit, all of which were analyzed and evaluated; the relevant controls were implemented afterwards.
