Online vulnerability is defined as the potential exposure to experiences that harm one’s psychological and physical well-being because of participation in online activities. Such experience can cause a decrease in selfworth and lead to the appearance of emotional issues. The purpose of this study was to propose an explanatory model for online vulnerability among Peruvian university students. This study follows an explanatory design with observable variables. The participants 219 intentionally chosen Peruvian university students, most of them women (62.6%), whose ages ranged between 17 and 28 years old, all of whom are studying at a private university in Metropolitan Lima. It was identified that FoMO, Facebook addiction and loneliness have direct effects on online vulnerability, while age has indirect effects on this variable (R2 = .486 Δβ = 0.01). These findings corroborate the theoretical assumptions that hold that inappropriate behaviors linked to technology respond to inadequate satisfaction of the basic psychological needs of competence, autonomy and belonging. Multiple effects are derived from the problematic use of smartphones in young people, among which nomophobia (anxiety about not being able to use the mobile phone) and FoMO (anxiety about being disconnected from social networks) stand out, manifesting comorbidity with psychological disorders, such as anxiety. Objective: To analyze the relationship between the manifestations of nomophobia and FoMO and symptoms of anxiety, as well as the possible differential profiles in these uses based on variables such as sex and time of use of the mobile phone. Method: A non-probabilistic convenience sampling was carried out, obtaining a total sample of 225 young people between 18 and 25 years old (M = 20.8; SD = 1.878). Results: The existence of a positive relationship between the three main variables under study has been confirmed, so that the greater the anxiety, the more fear of losing or being without the mobile phone is experienced, as well as anxiety with manifestations of FoMO. Increased use of mobile phones has been found to lead to higher levels of nomophobia and FoMO. Likewise, it has been found that women have greater nomophobia, FoMo and anxiety compared to men. Conclusions: More research is needed on this topic in young people, given the interrelation of the analyzed variables and their multiple implications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Covid-19 pandemic period has had a strong impact on people's lives, it has been associated with problematic phenomena, including FoMO (Fear of Missing Out). This fear has been related to numerous psychological problems, both internalizing and externalizing. However, to date, few studies have focused on variables that can play a protective role to deal with this fear. The objective of the present study was to explore the protective role that Resilient Coping and Emotional Regulation could play as personal resources against FoMO. A sample of 146 young adults, aged between 18 and 25 years (74% women), completed different questionnaires regarding resilient coping (BRS), emotional regulation (WLEIS-S) and fear of missing out (FoMO). Correlation analysis was carried out among the variables, as well as a moderation analysis using the PROCESS macro (Hayes, 2018). The results indicated significant associations between the variables in the expected direction. In addition, Emotional Regulation moderated the main effect of Resilient Coping on FoMO. These findings suggest the potential benefits of training and developing both personal resources to protect against negative emotions such as FoMO. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research analyzes the problematic use of mobile phone, the phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and the communication between parents and children in students who attend secondary education in public and private centers of the regions of Canary Islands, Balearic Islands and Valencia. The research involved 569 students aged between 12 and 19 years. The instruments used were the "Mobil phone related experiences questionnaire", the Spanish adaptation of the "Fear of Missing Out Questionnaire" and the communication dimension with parents of the "Parents and peers attachment inventory". The results show that: 1) An increased problematic use of the mobile phone is associated with a higher level of FoMO; 2) The students who frequently use the mobile phone and communicate more with their friends have a higher average score in the "Mobile phone related experiences questionnaire" and in the "Fear of Missing Out Questionnaire"; 3) The students that use the mobile phone for less time has a greater communication with fathers and mothers. We discuss the relevance of the study of FoMO and parentschildren communication as factors that affect the problematic use of mobile phone in young people. Centers' guidance teams, families and teachers have to create a common learning space to promote the responsible use of mobile phone. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
