Schwannomas are tumors usually benign derived from the nerve sheath, arising from the proliferation of Schwann cells. They can appear in any other part of the body, but are very rare in the gastrointestinal tract (0.2% of gastric tumors). The main differential diagnoses are gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). In the present paper we present two clinicopathological cases of gastric Schwannoma: a 65-year-old man and a 71-year-old-woman. Each patient with a nodule of 3 x 3 cm, and 3.5 x 2.7 cm, respectively. Both tumors were confined, fibrous consistency and intramural. Hematoxylin-eosin demonstrates a tumor with mesenchymal morphology, composed of spindle cells without important atipla, and the margins of the tumor having lymphoid follicles and a band of lymphocytes, in the absence of other typical presentations for schwannoma as Antoni A and B areas and Verocay bodies. The immunohistochemical study demonstrated expression of SI 00 protein, neuron specific enolase and collagen IV, being negative for desmin, actin SM, CD34 and cKit. We propose the most recommended immunohistochemical techniques in case of suspicion of schwannoma, GIST, leiomyoma, inflammatory fibroid polyp, inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor, among others.
