The analysis of bulbs life cycle in Bogotá using Systems Dynamics (SD), enables the identification of the behavior of the bulbs system in terms of the causal relationships existing in the different phases of it. Likewise, the integrated product policies contribute to decrease the amount of material sent to landfill and the energy consumption, and also to increase the recycled material reincorporated into the productive process. In order to measure the impact of two of the integrated product policies, an integer programing mixed model is proposed, minimizing the amount of material sent to the landfill and the energy consumption by observing their behavior and power for the simulation periods. Considering together the results of SD and the optimization model, it is evident that this kind of combined work between simulation and optimization provides complementary scenarios that compensate the limitations of each individual tool. For this particular case, an optimal scenario is achieved with a 98% improvement in terms of recycled material that is reincorporated into the production process and a 99% reduction in energy consumption.
