- Abstract
Absence of the thumb diminishes de function of the hand in a 40%. The pollicization procedure is the gold standard in treatment in these patients; it involves forming a thumb with the finger most proximal to it. We present the case of a 2-year-old girl with transversal deficit of left arm with a type IV hypoplasia of the right thumb. A pollicization of the index fi nger was realized, in the postoperative follow up she had complete passive range of movements of the thumb, six months postsurgery she had M4 active movement. The pollicization procedure provides good sensitivity, range of movement, and esthetic results, besides having less morbidity in the donor site. Even tough it is a high-risk procedure, most of the times satisfactory results are obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
