2. Efecto de factores bióticos y abióticos en el contenido de flavonoides en hojas de Passiflora sp. L.: Una revisión sistemática.

The genus Passiflora accounts for 17% of global flavonoid production, and several strategies have been explored to increase their production in these plants, given the growing demand for these metabolites. The aim of this study is to examine the published literature on the correlation between flavonoid concentrations in Passiflora genus leaves and factors such as microorganism presence, soil fertility, fertilizer use, soil conditioners, agronomic practices, weather patterns, and plant phenology. The search was conducted across nine databases. Web of Science, Nature, Agris, Dialnet, SciELO, Science Database-ProQuest, Scopus (Elsevier), Springer, and EBSCOhost and two search engines: Google Scholar and Semantic Scholar, obtaining 19 indexed articles. The results indicate that treatments incorporating a single biotic or abiotic factor in the crop lead to a 380% increase in the production of flavonoids at the leaf level, while the combination of different biotic and abiotic factors leads to a 491% increase in the production of this group of metabolites at the leaf level. It is essential to assess the integrated agronomic management of Passiflora sp. to increase the concentration of these metabolites in the leaves of productive branches with fully ripened fruits ready for harvest (BBCH code 89), without losing the possibility of using the current main product of the crop. The use of the medicinal plants for the population is broadly well-known in different cultures. However, the conservation in fresh state is determined by different factors like they are the activity of water that they possess and its action to a temperature and given relative humidity. In this sense, the knowledge of the sorption processes allows to establish technical approaches for the drying and the storage of the material. The modeling mathematician of these processes is not simple and even at the present time the investigations are continued in this field. Of there that the investigation was guided in describing of desorption of molecules of water mathematically in fresh leaves of lavender (Lavender officinalis Chaicah.), matico (Buddleja globosa Hope), pasiflora (Passiflora coérulea L.) and rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.). For it was used it the analytic technique from the equilibrium hygroscopic to 20 °C of temperature. The experimental data were adjusted 10 models and the obtained curve was classified according to its form and levels of adsorption. The equation of Adam and Shove described the behavior sigmoidal of the isotherms of each medicinal plant. The predominant forces of attraction were those of der they Van der Waals, what evidenced connections for the most part weak and few points of adsorption with relatively strong connections. The conditions for the careful conservation to 20 obtained °C were moisture between 0,053 and 0,221 g.g-1ms (5-22%). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the present study, exocarp of cucumber (Cucumis sativus) and mesocarp of passion fruit (Passiflora ligularis) were used as promising sources of pectin for the industry. Acid hydrolysis was used, and two pH levels and hydrolysis times were analyzed. The pectin obtained were evaluated (humidity, final pH, methoxyl number, percentage of esterification, galacturonic acid, IR analysis) and the results were compared with a commercial standard and literature. The analysis carried out showed that the pectin obtained from these two sources exhibit excellent characteristics compared to the standards for this kind of material. The primary objective of this research study was to determine the antioxidant activity and the agro-industrial potential of oils extracted from seven different Amazon (Peru) fruit seeds: Vasconcellea pubescens, Vasconcellea weberbaueri (Harms) V.M., Solanum betaceum, Passiflora edulis, Physalis peruviana, Passiflora tripartita, and Spondias purpurea L. The Soxhlet technique was used for extraction of seed oils. The results showed that V. pubescens, V. weberbaueri harms VM, S. betaceum, P. edulis, P. peruviana, and P. tripartita seed oils have potential to be used in food development (IS = 62 to 84; AI = 0.18 to 0.64%). Heterogeneity was also observed in oxidative stability. The V. weberbaueri seed oil was the most stable (IP = 16.13) while the V. pubescens seed oil was the most unstable (IP = 126.34). It is concluded that the seed oils examined have great potential for human consumption, for developing foods and biofuels, and for developing other nonfood related applications. Background: Passiflora quadrangularis L. has antihypertensive and anxiolytic properties observed in experimental models. Objectives: The aim of this work was to establish the vascular effects exerted by two known monodesmosidic triterpene saponins, 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyloleanolic acid (Compound 1) (not previously described for this plant) and, 3-O-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl] oleanolic acid (Compound 2), isolated from the ethanolic extract of Passiflora quadrangularis L. leaves. Methods: The structural elucidation was achieved by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) experiments and High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS). Aortic rings from Wistar rats, previously stimulated with phenylephrine (PE, 1µM) and washed, were exposed to cumulatively concentrations of compound 1 and compound 2 (10 to 400 µM). Ethanolic extract from leaves of P. quadrangularis L. (10 to 320 µg/mL) and clonidine (1nM to 100µM) were also used for comparison. Concentration response curves of compounds 1 and 2 were examined in presence and absence of: endothelium, the alpha-2 antagonist yohimbine (1 and 100 µM), the alpha non selective antagonist phentolamine (1µM), the alpha-1 antagonist prazosin (1µM) and the calcium channel blocker verapamil (10 and 100 µM). In addition, cumulatively response curve of acetylcholine (ACh, 10nM to 10µM) and sodium nitroprusside (SNP, 1nM to 100µM) were assayed in rings precontracted with compounds 1 and 2 (400 µM). Results: Compounds 1 and 2 elicited a vasoconstriction response in intact aorta rings in similar way (pEC50: 3.92±0.01 and 4.09±0.01, respectively), effect that did not change in denuded rings (pEC50: 3.90±0.01 and 4.11±0.01). The potency order (pEC50) of compounds 1 and 2 decreased according to the following: verapamil (3.53±0.01 and 3.90±0.02; p<0.05) < yohimbine (3.65±0.01 and 3.94±0.02; p<0.05) < prazosin (3.86±0.01 and 4.30±0.02) < phentolamine (4.05±0.02 and 4.05±0.01). SNP but not ACh, was able to decrease the vasopressor effect of compounds 1 and 2 (pIC50: 8.61±0.01 and 8.24 ± 0.15, respectively). Conclusions: Compounds 1 and 2 are key metabolites responsible for the ex vivo vasoconstrictor response induced by P. quadrangularis L. Activation of voltage-dependent calcium channels and/or a2-adrenergic receptors stimulation could be mechanisms implicated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We made a compositional and structural analysis in a subandean forest fragment in the municipality of Bolivar; area affected by deforestation, habitat loss and expansion of agriculture being stressors that have limited the development of these fragments. Forest is located between 1 400 and 1 800 m, at 24 °C and 2 000-3 000 mm/year. We made 10 transects (100*5 m), we recorded types of growth such as trees, shrubs, herbaceous, palmoid, liana, epiphyte, hemiepiphyte, parasite, tree fern and morphological data. We assessed families and genera composition using diversity, dominance, equitability and similarity indexes; IVI, IPF, IVF and frequency distribution (altitude, coverage, DAP). We recorded 102 families, 257 genera and 483 species, with 73 dicotyledons (72 %), 13 monocotyledons (13 %) and 15 pteridophytes (15 %). Families with the highest genera and species number were: Rubiaceae (15 genera/29 species), Piperacae (2/25), Gesneriaceae (11/19), Melastomataceae (8/19), Solanaceae (4/16) Araceae and Urticaeceae (7/15 each one). Genera with the highest species number were: Piper (16 species), Miconia (10), Ficus, Peperonia and Solanum (9) Anthurium and Passiflora, Siparuna, Pilea and Zanthoxylum (6). Dominance and diversity indicated species uniformity, supported in the forest equitability. The similitude between transects is 24 % denoting a high species turnover. The herbaceous growth was the better represented with 56 families and 166 species. This research showed a high diversity and new records for Santander, with Passiflora engleriana Harms Endangered (EN), Aiphanes concinna H.E. Moore (Near threatened, NT), Miconia neomicrantha Judd & Skean and Guarea kunthiana A. Juss. (Low Concern, LC). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Passiflora salpoense S. Leiva & Tantalean (Passifloraceae), a new species from northern Peru, is validated, described and illustrated in detail. Passiflora salpoense is found in Shitahuara (north of Salpo), Salpo District, province of Otuzco, region of La Libertad, Peru, between 7°59'50.4"-7° 59'51.5" S and 78°36'46.0"-78° 36'44.6"W, between 3450-3490 m above sea level. It presents solitary zygomorphic flowers per node, hypanthium infundibuliform, green on the adaxial surface, reddish on the distal half, ciliate in all its extension externally, sepals 5, oblong, yellow to reddish externally and internally, stamens homodynamous, zygomorphic, ovary oblong, ciliate, berry globose, sericeous, reeds 1,5-2 (-3) m long, leaves sericeous. In addition to the description, we present the corresponding illustration, discuss its relationship with other similar species and include information about ethnobotany, geographic range and ecology, phenology, conservation status and uses of the species. - Abstract
A therapeutic intervention to evaluate the effectiveness of using passiflora stint associated with the conventional treatment in 20 patients suffering from essential hypertension, who were assisted in a family doctor's office of Manzanillo Granma, was carried out from October, 2014 to April, 2015. The population was distributed in 2 groups: study and control. The first group was prescribed with passiflora stint combined with conventional medicines, according to associated diseases and personal risks, the second group received conventional medical treatment with the same requirements. An evaluation was carried out after 15 and 30 days to 6 months. There was a prevalence of sixty years and over patients (35.0%) and female sex. The treatment was effective in 42 members of the study group (70.0%) and 27 members of the control group (45.6). It was concluded that passiflora stint associated with conventional treatment was effective to control tension numbers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The extraction process of passion fruit seed oil (Passiflora edulis Sims.) from waste generated from agro-industrial fruit processing was evaluated. The oil was obtained by supercritical fluid extraction technology using CO2 as a solvent. Different conditions of pressure and temperature were evaluated against the oil yield using a factorial design of experiments 2² with 4 central points. The physicochemical characteristics were determined for vegetable oils such as density and refractive values, saponification, iodine, peroxide and acidity were determined. The fatty acids was measured by gas chromatography, and sterols using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, to determine the antioxidant activity of the oil by DPPH* method. The best conditions for passion fruit oil extraction were 350 bar and 60°C, in which a yield of 15.7% oil was obtained. The physico-chemical characterization shows that the oil meets the quality standards set for edible oils. The passion fruit seed oil is rich in saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, and contains a high proportion of linoleic acid (67.0%), followed by oleic (16.6%) and palmitic acids (14.5%). To a lesser extent, stearic and linolenic acids were detected. Chromatographic analysis revealed the presence of minor components found in the oil was β-sitosterol, stigmasterol, campesterol, lanosterol and squalene. The antioxidant activity was demonstrated with an EC50 value of 433.40 g oil/g DPPH* and antiradical efficiency 2.31E-03. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Edible plant species and their parts used by indigenous tapiete people in northeastern Salta province, Argentina are identified, as well as their gathering, elaboration, consumption and storage practices. The ultimate aim of this work is to contribute to the recording and appreciation of tapiete people knowledge about this matter. Five fieldworks were made to the semiarid northern Chaco and to Tartagal city, where ethnobotanical data were obtained from 75 interviews with a total of 32 qualified and occasional tapiete collaborators. Each of the edible plants was collected and identified by the authors and deposited at the Ruiz Leal Herbarium (MERL). A total of 54 native plants, belonging to 23 botanical families used as food by the tapiete, are recorded as forming part of 106 preparations, or consumption forms, and 13 forms of conservation. The main edible species are Anisocapparis speciosa, Prosopis aff. elata and Prosopis alba with six applications each, and Ziziphus mistol, Geoffroea decorticans and Funastrum clausum with four applications each. Most of these applications (55%; 59) do not include any preparation --they are consumed raw-, the 21% (22) are eaten cooked (boiled or roasted), while their use in beverages, condiment and flours represent a minority of their applications (24%; 25). Consumption of the leaves of Passiflora mooreana and P. cincinatta is registered here for the first time by ethnic groups from the Gran Chaco. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the present study was to characterize karyologically species of Passiflora L. from Félix Pérez Cardozo District, Guairá, Paraguay. The chromosome numbers in meiosis 2n = 9II for P. alata Curtis and P. caerulea L. are reported for the first time. Chromosome number for P. edulis Sims (2n = 9II) is also confirmed. Meiotic behaviour in all studied species was normal with regular chromosome segregation. The most frequent chromosome associations were bivalents at diakinesis and metaphase I. Few meiotic irregularities were observed, such as lagging chromosomes and asynchronous phases of meiosis II, however, pollen viability was high, between 78.83% and 98.6%. The obtained results confirms x = 9 as the basic chromosome number for subgenus Passiflora. The present study is a relevant contribution to the knowledge on the cytogenetics of species of Passiflora subg Passiflora from Paraguay. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

19. Tres frutas silvestres de Passiflora L. (Passifloraceae) del norte de Perú.

- Abstract
In this paper we report the common knowledge and use for human feeding of three wild fruits of Passiflora L. (Passifloraceae) from Northern Peru. We registered the fruit species, location, harvest period and uses of each one. We interviewed 20 informants who mentioned three common names. The reported species are: P. foetida L. “snake's granadilla" which inhabits lowlands in the coast and jungle regions; P. peduncularis Cav. “poro poro", “puro puro" grows in the highlands of the Andes at around 3000 m of elevation and P. salpoense S. Leiva & Tantalean “puro puro", “poro poro" which is endemic of Salpo District between 3450-3490 m of elevation. In addition to the descriptions, we present the respective illustrations and photographies, we discuss their relations with allied species and we include data about ethnobotany, geographic range, ecology, phenology, current status and uses of the species. - Abstract
The carpenter bees of the genus Xylocopa are some of the most efficient pollinators of many plants of the genus Passiflora and for this reason the use of "trap nest" has been proposed to increase the number of visits of these pollinators. The aim of this study was to establish the floral visitors diversity and pollination level in granadilla (Passiflora ligularis), purple passion fruit (Passiflora edulis f. edulis) and yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa) crops, as well as explore the viability of breeding Xylocopa using trap nest. In each crop the frequency of visits of Xylocopa and other insects in two blooms were assessed, as well as fruit set and fruit characteristics. Trap nests of bamboo canes and eucalyptus logs were used. Results showed that in the purple passion fruit crop the fruit set is high despite the low frequency of Xylocopa visits, while in the granadilla and yellow passion fruit crops the fruit set could be increased. We found that Xylocopa only nested in bamboo canes in the yellow passion fruit crop, but with low success. We discuss the possible reasons for this and propose guidelines for future Xylocopa trap nest studies in Colombia. The first description of Xylocopa nasica nests in bamboo canes is made. - Abstract
Passiflora salpoense S. Leiva & Tantalean (Passifloraceae), a new species from Northern Peru, is described and illustrated in detail. P. salpoense is found in Shitahuara (north of Salpo), Salpo District, Province of Otuzco, Department of La Libertad, Peru, at 7°59'50,4" S and 78°36'46,0" W, between 3450-3490 m above sea level. It presents solitary zygomorphic flowers per node, hypanthium infundibuliform, green on the adaxial surface, reddish on the distal half, ciliate in all its extension externally, sepals 5, oblong, yellow to reddish externally and internally, petals 5, oblong, reddish on distal ¾, yellowish on the basal quarter externally and internally, homodynamous stamens, zygomorphic, ovary oblong, ciliate, berry globose, sericeous, reeds 1,5-2 (-3) m long, leaves sericeous. In addition to the description, we present the corresponding illustration, discuss its relationship with other similar species and include information about ethnobotany, geographic range and ecology, phenology, conservation status and uses of the species. - Abstract
Background: banana passion fruit is a tropical fruit whose nutritional value and bioactive compounds are little known and have not been studied enough. Objective: based on the nutritional and antioxidant characteristics of banana passion fruit we show the nutritional value and the impact to human health. Methodology: characteristics of fruit and production were described. Proximal composition of the fruit was analyzed. Micronutrients were known by scientific references related to banana passion fruit. Antioxidant capacity was analyzed by DPPH, FRAP and ORAC methods. Results: this is a source of vitamins A, C and niacin, minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, chlorine, iron; provides moderate amounts of carbohydrates and calories. The content of total carotenoids, phenols and flavonoids was 118,8 mg pcarotene 460,1 mg galic acid galic and, 1.907,6 mg catechine/100 g respectively. The DPPH, FRAP and ORAC value was 60.843,1 pmol, 8.520,3 pmol and, 20.754,9 pmol trolox equivalents/100 g dehydrated fruit respectively. Conclusion: people in general and the food industry should take advantange of the nutritional and antioxidant value of banana passion fruit as well as raw material to improve the productive chain. Three floral phases were distinguished through anthesis, which starts after 1 p.m. Flowers in phase 1 and 3 (pollen donors) had their stigmas up. Flowers in phase 2 (receptors and donors of pollen) had their stigmas recurved near the anthers. Flowers in phase 2 occurred simultaneously with others in phase 1, during the day, and also with others in phase 3 (during the night). Sugar concentration in nectar varied: it was acceptable for Hymenoptera in the afternoon (when Xylocopa spp and Centris spp pollinate) and for sphingids after sunset (when Erinnyis ello seems to pollinate). Passiflora mooreana is melitophilous, but also is a resource for moths in the evening. Flowers showed a low degree of autoincompatibility. The low percent of fruits obtained suggests that the great distance between plants does not favor cross-pollination. The ovary wall may grow without pollination. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Passiflora incarnata L. well-known as Passiflora or Flower of Passion is a medicinal plant with traditional use, belonging to the Passifloraceae family. This plant was introduced in Cuba from the tropical America and it has been acclimatized very well in the territory. Passiflora plant possesses a sedative action of the nervous system, and it is muscle relaxing and spasmolytic comparable with the papaverine, according to numerous bibliographical reports that also endorse its safety. With the objective of obtaining a natural finished product, industrially made, based on this valuable plant, it was carried out a technological formulation study about Passiflora tablets by means of a 2³ factorial experiment. The chosen factors were: Binder (A) with two different concentrations, Vehicle of the binder (V) hydroalcoholic solution with two different compositions and Filler (D) two different substances at the same concentration in the formula, resulting both first factors with significance on the evaluated answer. By means of the statistical analysis carried out a compressed solid form was obtained with the required attributes of quality and with the smallest expense of time and resources. We studied flower and fruit development of giant granadilla (Passiflora quadrangularis L.). We made studies of seed storage conditions to optimize germination. Fruit growth followed a sigmoid curve where optimum fruit size was reached 25 days after set and maturity was reached after about 70 days. Germination capability of the seeds started after the fruit was 45 days old (23%) reaching around 90% when the fruit were 60 days old. Fermenting the juicy pulp containing the seeds for 2 days followed by washing and drying under shade for 3 days was the best seed extraction method, reaching 98% germination against 92, 89, 77 and 15% for 3, 4, 5 and 7 days fermentation, respectively. One day of fermentation was not as effective as 2 to 4 days. Seeds kept at room temperature lost their viability in a month. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
