Post-operative delirium(POD) is common in older adults and is characterized by changes in attention and cognition. Objective: To determine the preoperative risk factors associated with POD in adults submitted to balanced general anesthesia at Hospital Metropolitano Angeles. material and methods: Cross-sectional study. Fifty adults aged 60 years or older were included in the Confusion Assessment Method (CAM) at the time of admission to the recovery room. A logistic regression model was used to fi the associated risk factors. results: A total of 50 patients with a mean age of 70.8 (± 7.1) years were included. By sex 60.0% (30) were women and 40.0% (20) men. Patients underwent gastrointestinal-abdominal surgeries (34%), orthopedic (26%), urologic (16%), cardiovascular (12%) and others (12%). DPO was detected in 22 (44.0%) patients, not fi signifi differences by age and sex. The variables associated with POD were surgery duration (OR = 1.04 [95% CI 1.01-1.06, p = 0.004]) and the presence of elevated intraoperative glucose levels (OR = 1.02 [95% CI 1.00-1.04, p = 0.049]). Conclusions: POD is a frequent complication in the elderly, so it is necessary to provide timely diagnosis and implementation of prevention strategies for this population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
