The situation of Spanish Early Career Researchers (ECRs) during the pandemic is presented, taking into account the main changes caused by confinement in their work habits and academic communication practices. Based on the information extracted from interviews and surveys, the transformations experienced in the following areas are analyzed: distance teaching, research production, the evaluation system and the metrics used, the progress of open science, peer review, ethically questionable practices, collaboration and networking, online meetings and conferences, scientific dissemination and outreach and the use of social networks. After the pandemic, some disruptions have reversed. However, others have remained. The pandemic has normalized the use of virtual and hybrid events and promoted researchers' dissemination practices, among other changes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim is to investigate the attitudes and practices of Spanish Early Career Researchers (ECRs) towards open science. Their interest in sharing openly publications and data, in collaborating with other researchers and stakeholders, in disseminating their research and in looking for results' impact is analyzed. The methodology is based on interviews and surveys directed to Spanish Early Career Researchers (ECRs). The results show the interest of novice researchers in open science, but also the need for recognition of the actions involved in it as a requirement for its consolidation among researchers in a precarious situation. The scientific communication habits and practices of the new wave of Spanish researchers are analyzed based on the results of an international survey (2019). The results obtained from 100 participants support those previously obtained from interviews conducted between 2016 and 2018 in Spain under the Harbingers Project, and show similarities to and differences from those collected from the mentioned survey in other countries covered by the Project in its second phase. Spanish researchers have two contradictory faces: They are innovative in their perceptions but slightly less so in their practices regarding open access and the use of social media. However, these new attitudes and habits are motivated by a desire to promote their own work and gain recognition; In this sense, they are conservative. The competition in which they are immersed regarding the achievement of tenure and, therefore, the need to focus on their abilities that will be evaluated represent a limitation on enjoying the learning process and dedicating themselves to the practices of open science to which their generation is naturally prone. The situation of Spanish early career researchers is investigated based on the results obtained from the international project: Early career researchers: The harbingers of change? It is about knowing what are their habits in scientific communication, what role do the developments of Science 2.0 play in their behaviour and to what extent the indicators of evaluation of their activity are decisive in their attitudes and practices. It is concluded that these researchers have the aptitudes and the will to promote change but are hampered by the conservatism of the requirements of evaluation of the scholar communication at the academia. This article discusses the results of analysing management transparency in 53 Spanish's state-run libraries based on a proposed series of indicators drawn from the libraries' own websites. While the findings detected examples of good practice, information was observed to be scant, particularly in terms of libraries' lines of action and objectives. The rules and procedures for using the services and contacting with librarians were the types of information most frequently provided. The authors recommend that libraries, as public institutions receiving funds and subsidies from the government, should engage voluntarily in transparency by publishing information on their indicators on their websites. Access to quality content is key to research and one of the core values that scholars assign to the library. Bibliographic data play a fundamental role in university libraries, which devote abundant resources to obtaining and hosting them for access. This study investigates where and how bibliographic information is discovered, and highlights the role of search engines, databases, repositories, and web-scale discovery services in that process. The effort that libraries have made in implementing these services seems to have paid off in relation to the increase in the use of collections. However, Google remains the top option for discovering scientific information. This is a review study, based on the analysis of original research and results from recent reports. The aim of the study is to test a methodology to investigate the correlation between the models of electronic information usage and the scientific communication preferences reflected in two databases: Web of Science (WoS) from Thomson Reuters, and Scopus from Elsevier. The study is focused on the University of Vigo. Downloads of the articles distributed by ScienceDirect, SpringerLink and Wiley were analyzed at the University of Vigo (Spain) in the period 2006 to 2011. There is an ascending curve for the consumption of electronic scientific content and a preference for titles distributed by ScienceDirect. The study confirms that experimental and health sciences researchers are the most devoted users, to judge by the number of articles downloaded. Increase in scientific production was also analyzed by discipline. There was a direct correlation between the most productive disciplines and those in which higher numbers of journal articles were downloaded. Nevertheless, no direct correlation was observed between the titles preferred for scientific communication and the titles receiving greater use in the multidisciplinary platforms studied. It is studied the role of the archives as guardians of the digital memory and creators of information in the web. It is analyzed the challenge that the digital repositories constitute in the conservation of the digital resources. This article presents the survey to locate the portals and repositories that contain primary research data in Argentina. For this purpose, directories and repositories records, both for data and publications, the repositories included in the Sistema Nacional de Repositorios Digitales, and those harvested by the Sistema de Información Universitaria del Consejo Interuniversitario Nacional in its SIU-BDU 2 service were consulted. Besides, Google search engine and documentary sources on the subject were used. We found 25 repositories containing data and we analyzed some general their characteristics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
