The phylloxera plague in the 19th century caused significant losses in the Spanish vineyards, but also led to a change in the wine-growing map. The area's most suitable for cultivation recovered, while the less suitable areas such as Sierra Morena, which includes the northern part of the province of Córdoba, were gradually abandoned until they almost disappeared. Using geographic information systems, the historical cartography of the second half of the 19th century was analyzed to locate and identify the geographic characteristics of these old vineyards, their extension, location, lithology, slopes, orientation and coexistence with other crops. Among the results obtained, it was found that in the study area their extension exceeded that of the south of the province, where the consolidated Montilla-Moriles wine appellation currently exists. From the interpretation of the maps obtained, some characteristics of the disappeared landscapes of this vineyard of the Mediterranean mid-mountains are also shown, and some initiatives for its valorization are registered. Vineyards are very abundant in Spain and have a great capacity to generate toponymy. In this paper, the distribution of vineyard place names has been analyzed, in order to know if the frequency of these names is similar between territories and if they are associated with the crops. For this, firstly, the vineyard toponyms of the Basic Geographic Gazetteer of Spain have been identified. Subsequently, a goodness of fit test has been carried out between the distribution of the observed place names and those which would derive from its proportional distribution taking into account the total area of each region and its area of vineyards. Finally, an independence test between the distribution of the place names and the crops has been carried out. Goodness of fit and independence have been checked using the Chi-square test. The results show that vineyard toponymy is not distributed evenly between regions and there is an association between toponymy and vine cultivation. However, this does not occur in all regions: there are areas where today such association is unrecognizable due to the cultivated areas with no toponymy and others with a high frequency of fossilized place names which mark where the old vineyard landscapes are. Biosphere Reserves (BR) are delimited areas with the aim of conciliating the conservation of natural and cultural values with sustainable development. This article begins from the hypothesis that this figure of UNESCO can perform a key function in the task of combining the conservation of biodiversity, territorial development and the maintenance of the cultural values associated to grapevine and wine landscapes in fragile surroundings. The main objective of this article is to present a first balance of the importance that Spanish Biosphere Reserves generally have in the management of the landscape, and specially of the vineyard. This approach is carried out from consideration of strategies that affect the vineyard landscape values contained in the Action Plans of the reserves. Furthermore, the wine-growing areas are mapped and weighed and an analysis is executed in depth in those cases in which the vineyard, by its organization or singularity, occupies an outstanding place among the crops. Mallorca's centuries-old tradition of vine-growing and wine-producing has undergone different stages in its evolution, some involving expansion and others contractions. This study analyses the most recent phase in the sector's evolution in Mallorca, focused on a new approach to viticulture associated with the production of high-quality wines. This phase was developed as from the 1990s in line with plans for the restructuring of vineyards and the creation of Designations of Origin and other Geographical Indications. In turn, we have been able to witness the fragmented growth of a new wine-making industry, largely made up of small low-capacity wineries with their own vineyards. The products' links with the area where they are produced through legislation governing geographical indications and changes in the industry have led to the creation of a new model, with characteristics closely tied in with what is known as the post-productivist shift. Lobesia botrana Den. & Schiff. is a quarantine pest in Argentina. It was recorded in Maipú, Mendoza, in 2010. The aim of this study was the mass production of L. botrana, setting up the duration of each stage and the mortality rate. The insect rearing was developed in a chamber at 25 ± 5 °C, 30 - 50% RH, and 16: 8 (L:D) photoperiod. Under the experimental conditions, the European grapevine moths’ cycle, lasted from egg to adult death 31.27 ± 2.36 days. The incubation period was 2.82 ± 0.14 days; the larval stage lasted 13.63 ± 1.37 days. The pupal stage lasted 6.57 ± 0.22 days and the adults survived for 8.25 ± 0.64 days. The mortality egg stage was 37%, followed by the larval stage 1 with 26.30%. The other stages showed a mortality rate of less than 2.5%. Under the described conditions, the moth mass-rearing is possible. The method allows to obtain all stages. The technique used makes the rearing procedures less expensive and less time-consuming. Vineyard landscape changes were studied (surface, fragmentation and forms) between 1956 and 2000 in La Rioja Alta (Spain). The vineyards were mapped in 1956, 1977 and 2000 from aerial photography. The cartography was analysed with various GIS and statistical programs. Results showed the vineyard expansion for other cultivated areas, and, to a lesser extent, for difficult topographic environments. The vineyard landscape tended to the defragmentation, creating larger patches with slightly more regular shapes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
