Objectives: The article provides a vision of the Europeanisation of Spanish water policy in the new reference framework set by the European Green Deal (2019) and following the European Commission’s decision to revalidate the environmental commitments contained in the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and urges Member States to comply with them. Methodology: The article follows a deductive model, analyses three key aspects of European water governance in the Spanish case, uses reports and opinions from European and Spanish institutions, as well as secondary sources from major analysts in water governance and Europeanisation processes. Results: The historical trajectory of water management in Spain has left its mark on the current system with special emphasis on Integrated Water Resources Management, the ecological approach and the interweaving of social, technological and natural aspects, it has affected in decision-making, which has had an impact on the process of convergence with Europe. Conclusions: The progressive national adjustments in environmental and climate battle are strongly promoted by the EU can contribute to a change in Spanish water management in order to implement the WFD.
