The objective of this research is to determine how informed consent is used in dental practice in southern Peru in the year 2023. The methodological design adopts a descriptive level with a mixed approach that is divided into two stages: The first consisted of a qualitative theoretical-analytical-rational analysis, followed by a subsequent empirical analysis with a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional approach. The study was carried out in a population of dentists who practice the dental profession in southern Peru in the year 2023 with a non-probabilistic convenience sample of 131 dentists. The main results were that the use of informed consent (14.5%) states that they do not use it in their daily consultation and (59.5%) use it in an erroneous way, due to different factors that influence this procedure and that the non-use of informed consent in its highest percentage arguing "lack of time" on the part of dentists It was concluded that there is a high rate of dental professionals who do not use informed consent in their professional practice, even more so that there is a high percentage that does not use consent correctly reported as an ethical-legal document. Introduction. This article emphasizes the importance of the informed and careful practice in pediatric dentistry and endodontics to prevent iatrogenic events. It highlights critical need to select appropriate obturation materials, especially in deciduous teeth, and the use of diagnostic tools such as panoramic radiographs and computed tomography scans, to avoid complications. Case report. The case of a pediatric patient of 8 years and one month old is presented, with a pulpectomy in the OD 53 obturated with gutta-percha, which hindered the eruption of teeth 13 and 14. This case is rare due to the unusual difficulty in eruption caused by gutta-percha obturation in a deciduous tooth, not commonly reported in literature. Conclusions. Meticulous dental practice supported by clear protocols is essential to ensure successful and safe treatment in pediatric patients. Proper selection of obturation materials, particularly in deciduous dentition, is crucial. The findings underscore the relevance of diagnostic tools such as panoramic radiography and computed tomography. Intrusion, understood as a usurpation of the professional sphere, has occurred in many areas; Dentistry is no exception, since ancient times it has been known that the first dental prostheses were made by people with completely different work activities from that of the first dentists; since these restorations were carried out by metalworkers, whose manual dexterity was extremely high in handling iron, a material used to make "dental pieces" with which people were helped to restore oral function and, with this, chewing. Currently, this intrusion is still present, particularly in the figure of dental technicians, who, even though, are legally required to limit their work to following the instructions of the stomatologist, without being able to act autonomously and independently in procedures. Clinicians, some of them are known to directly care for patients. Another form of intrusion in Dentistry occurs when dental surgeons without any dental specialty carry out procedures beyond their knowledge, abilities and skills that they generally have. The importance of pointing out and not allowing this exercise of professional activities by people not authorized to do so, not only lies in the legal sanctions that will be applied to those who exercise it; but of even greater importance is preventing oral damage from occurring, many of them irreversible; thus affecting the chewing, phonation and aesthetics of the patients; and even in more serious cases, generating greater systemic effects. Introduction : Deaf individuals in Colombia possess the distinctive trait of communicating with others through Colombian Sign Language (LSC) and encounter communication challenges when accessing health services due to their affiliation with a linguistic and cultural minority. Objectives : To describe the experiences of Deaf individuals in communicative processes during dental care. Methodology: A qualitative study was conducted involving 32 Deaf individuals, both male and female, of legal age, who participated in individual and group interviews. Throughout these interviews, participants shared instances of their experiences in dental consultations. Data were coded, categorized, and relationship maps were developed for analysis. Results were communicated to participants through educational material in sign language. Results : Participants narrate the challenges faced in autonomously accessing health services, as well as their experience of being uninformed during care. They also highlight opportunities for receiving dignified and quality care, necessitating transformations in services, healthcare professionals, and higher education institutions within the context of Deaf culture. Conclusions : Communicative processes in the interaction between dentists and Deaf individuals present an opportunity to better comprehend the Deaf experience in healthcare, question the normalcy in healthcare provision, and recognize the importance of addressing differences. Objective: To describe pediatric dentists' perceptions regarding dental biosafety in times of COVID-19 in Lima, 2020. Materials and methods: A qualitative, phenomenological and content-analysis study. In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 pediatric dentists through the Zoom videoconferencing platform, following the guidelines described in a guide and after obtaining the pertinent virtual informed consent. ATLAS.ti software version 8.4 was used for data analysis, where all the verbatim files of each interview were uploaded. Results: Pediatric dentists perceived themselves to be professionally empowered with knowledge about biosafety measures. Moreover, they highlighted the mastery of various techniques such as mouthwash, use of personal protective equipment, control of aerosols, social distancing between patients and disinfection of environments, which are essential for patient safety. They also reported that biosafety regulations are somewhat confusing, unclear, and lack a pediatric approach. Conclusions: Pediatric dentists are strategic human resources for healthcare because they gained biosafety knowledge as part of their professional education and received training on new biosafety regulations in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is important to standardize the criteria and approaches in the model of care for pediatric dentistry and guarantee the conditions for the sustainability of this professional practice. Currently there is much emphasis on the importance of the cooperative learning model, therefore, considering the foundations of this model, and the forms of the process in the professional training of dentists in Mexico, we sought to analyze the characteristics that define learning in the training process of the dentist, to determine if there is a relationship with the cooperative learning model, for which a qualitative, analytical, descriptive and interpretative research was carried out, the analysis was performed with the help of Hyper research program. It is highlighted in the results that, both in theoretical and clinical subjects, work is done in teams with positive interdependence, individual responsibility, face-to-face interaction, and interpersonal skills. It is concluded that since dental training was planned, formalized, and established as a profession, it has been characterized by carrying out actions in the teaching-learning process that are part of the cooperative learning model. Periodontal disease in pregnancy has been related as a causal factor of premature birth and low birth weight, a theory supported by the scientific community in articles published in international journals. The general objective is to describe the relationship of periodontal disease in pregnant women with low birth weight and/or premature birth according to dental professionals who work in the national health system in 2020. The methodology used was a mixed approach, where data were obtained from the SIMOW system that establishes the number of medical and dental check-ups for pregnant women in 2020. Likewise, qualitative, because the instrument of interviewing through digital media was used to evaluate and analyze the experiences of dental professionals who work in the national health system. Among the most important results, the coverage of dental check-ups is 35% compared to the coverage of medical check-ups for pregnant women and the newborn, the interviewed dentists recognize periodontal disease as a risk factor that can lead to premature birth and low Birth weight. Therefore, it is concluded that dental check-ups are important for the prevention of periodontal disease in pregnant women, a risk factor for premature birth and low birth weight. This research article aims to investigate the degree of understanding in OSH of the employees of the healthcare area of the entity under study. It has a quantitative approach with a descriptive scope and a non-experimental research design in which 20 employees of the healthcare area participated as follows: 4 nurses, 6 health assistants, 2 bacteriologists, 4 doctors and 4 dentists. The Scale to determine the level of knowledge in OSH is defined as superior, high and low performance. The analysis of results determined that the employees of this entity have a low degree of understanding on S & ST issues. Objective: to relate job satisfaction with the working condition of dentists in CartagenaColombia. Materials and methods: cross-sectional descriptive study in a non-probabilistic sample of 107 general dentists who work in dental centers in 2016. A questionnaire was designed and applied to investigate job satisfaction, sociodemographic variables and working conditions. A descriptive statistic and a test with 95% confidence were performed for the significance of the relationships. Results: 55.1% of dentists felt satisfied at work; Of these, 62.6% reported dissatisfaction with remuneration and 75.7% dissatisfied with labor market conditions. The relationships with statistical significance between job satisfaction and having less than 44 years (p = 0.003), male sex (p = 0.007) and being married (p = 0.038); just like relate working conditions with the duration of the working day (p = 0.016), remuneration received (p = 0.000), labor competence (p = 0.001) and having been unemployed at some time (p = 0.034). Conclusion: the satisfaction of dentists, working conditions and the fulfillment of expectations are related to factors, which generate negative perception results indicating that the dentistry situation is not the best at present. The panoramic radiograph is in all likelihood, the routine exam most required by dentists in the clinic worldwide. Among the advantages of using this type of radiograph, is that it is inexpensive, quick and also safer in digital format since it reduces the radiation dose and time of exposure. Its potential as a diagnostic tool is based on the possibility to explore almost all of the maxillofacial area, allowing a proper anatomic and morphological study of different areas at the same time. Background: Fixed body positions, awkward postures, and repetitive movements are frequent causes of musculoskeletal diseases among dentists. Purpose: To determine the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms associated with inadequate work postures. sobre síntomas musculoesqueléticos y otro sobre percepción de posturas inadecuadas. Resultados: El principal síntoma musculoesquelético fue el dolor con una prevalencia de 64,9 %. Los más afectados fueron odontólogos mayores de 40 años, con 20 años o más de ejercicio profesional. Las áreas corporales más afectadas fueron la mano/muñeca (35,8 %), el cuello (30,9 %), la espalda alta (30,9 %) y la espalda baja (26,8 %). Las posiciones corporales conocidas como “flexión de espalda” y “giro o rotación de cuello” fueron los factores de riesgo más importantes al ser estadísticamente significativos en cuanto al dolor de mano/muñeca (OR: 5; IC 95 % 1,2-19,3), cuello (OR: 5; IC 95 % 1,3-20,4 ), espalda alta (OR: 6; IC 95 % 1,6-23) y espalda baja (OR: 6; IC 1,3-26) (p<0,005). Conclusión: Este estudio aporta evidencia sobre el alto riesgo de los odontólogos de padecer síntomas musculoesqueléticos asociados a posturas ergonómicas inadecuadas de trabajo, que se asocian al tipo de procedimiento. Background: Cri du Chat syndrome (SCdC) is a low-prevalence genetic disorder. It is important that clinical dentists know about its craniofacial and stomatological characteristics, as well as considerations for an adequate treatment of these patients. Purpose: to identify recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with SCdC. Methods: in this systematic review, PubMed, SciELO, LiLACS, and TripDatabase were searched. Search terms were “Cri du Chat” and “cat howl syndrome and dentistry,” between 2003 and 2018. 25 articles that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were obtained and analyzed. Results: the low frequency of appearance of the syndrome was confirmed. Representative craniofacial and oral characteristics associated with micrognathism and retrognathism that alter the patient's facial appearance were identified. Alterations such as dental crowding, malocclusion, and associated periodontal disease can be corrected and controlled with adequate oral hygiene and nutritional guidance for the patient and their parents. Conclusions: SCdC is rare. Its pathognomonic characteristics appear in childhood and adolescence, so they require more attention. Background: Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS) is a syndrome that has some specific congenital, physical and behavioral characteristics that vary between each person. It is a rare disease, with a prevalence of 1 in 10,000 to 60,000 individuals. Case description: This article compares two clinical cases of people with CdLS, treated at the Special Care Clinic (CCE) of the School of Dentistry at the University of Chile (FOUCh), that shows different states of oral health and therefore different therapeutic approaches, including the multidisciplinary team in the care of both. Conclusion: It is important that the dentist and the health team in general adapt to the needs and conditions of the patients, to perform an integrative and individualized dental treatment for each person. Objective: To identify the influence of the Colombian health system on the professional autonomy of dentists who practice in public and private IPS (healthcare providing institutions) in Bogotá. Methodology: comprehensive qualitative study, carried out with ethnographic tools such as the semi-structured interview. The analysis categories were: professional autonomy, health care models, decision making and contract system. The information was analyzed according to its category, context and content. Results: it was found that professional autonomy is limited due to the time given per patient (twenty minutes). Another limitation is the restriction to carry out procedures and, sometimes, the care protocols. Due to these limitations, dentists lose the skills and knowledge acquired in the academia, their abilities and self-confidence. Discussion: the Colombian health system limits the professional autonomy of dentists who work in public and private IPS. Professional autonomy, related to decision making, is an important axis in the healthcare practice. Exercising professional autonomy allows achieving ethical-clinical reasonings, developing skills and promoting the patients´ well-being, that is, the bioethical commitment (beneficence, non-maleficence and justice), and respect. Amelogenesis Imperfecta (AI) is an alteration of the structure and appearance of dental enamel of genetic origin that can occur as an isolated or systemic defect. The Amelogenesis Imperfecta-Nefrocalcinosis Syndrome (OMIM # 204690), also known as Enamel-Renal Syndrome (ERS), is characterized by the presence of hypoplastic AI, gingival hyperplasia with ectopic mineralization, delayed tooth eruption and Nephrocalcinosis. This syndrome is associated with autosomal recessive mutations of the FAM20A gene. The aim of this review is to present the clinical and phenotypic characteristics of patients with the Amelogenesis Imperfecta-Nefrocalcinosis Syndrome. The material was obtained through an online search of MEDLINE database (PubMed), EBSCO-Host and Scopus (ScienceDirect). The results confirm the low frequency of clinical cases reported with Syndrome Amelogenesis Imperfecta-Nefrocalcinosis. The clinical and phenotypic characteristics were exposed in a clear, simple and precise way. Background: This article is a theoretical reflection, from which an empirical study will be carried out, about the current quality of life of dentists in Colombia. Objective: To reflect, based on available literature, about changes in the quality of life of dentists in Colombia. Methods: This was qualitative study based on document analysis. The design was an exploratory review of literature. Results: Even though national and international literature on this topic is scarce, the documents reviewed show that quality of life among dentists in Colombia has been affected because work conditions have deteriorated. Therefore, income has decreased and wellbeing is not comparable to what these professionals used to enjoy 30 years ago. This situation is associated to factors like the enacting of Law 100 of 1993 and the multiplication of dental schools nationwide. Thus, there is an excessive offer of professional in some zones, mainly cities, who get low-wage jobs and poor working conditions. Conclusions: Even though existing studies are limited in territorial scope, there is evidence of the deterioration of the quality of life among dentists in Colombia. However, more studies with national coverage are necessary to better understand the way in which dentists' social, economic, and labor contexts have been affected. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
