This study examines the limits of professional practice in the field of comprehensive esthetics and related areas in Ecuador. A mixed methodological approach was used, including document analysis, practitioner surveys and expert interviews. The central objective was to identify and examine discrepancies between existing regulation and actual practice, along with their implications for patient health and safety. The findings revealed confusion in terminology, diversity in professional training, and lack of regulatory awareness. In addition, it was observed that non-medical professionals perform invasive procedures, despite being prohibited by Ecuadorian law. In conclusion, it is necessary to review and strengthen regulation, as well as improve professional training, to ensure safe and ethical practice in the field of comprehensive esthetics in Ecuador. Introduction. The World Health Organization developed the Project "Safe Surgery Saves Lives" in order to reduce preventable events while in the operating room, identifying ways to guarantee an optimal level of safety in surgery through a checklist application (LVQ). The aim of this document is to strengthen safety praxis on invasive procedures executed inside and outside the operating room through a checklist. Material and methods. Quantitative-qualitative and prospective study was conducted in the surgical services of a highly specialized hospital, involving the application of a LVQ designed by a working group. Adherence to the LVQ was evaluated at first, second and third month of the use agreement. Results. During the first month, the general use of the LVQ was 38% of all surgeries and invasive procedures; 73% during the second month and reached 93% on the third month. Nursing staff achieved high compliance since the first month (80%), reaching 100% from the second month. The surgeons were most reluctant, with figures of 30%, 75% and 97% adherence for the three months studied. Conclusions. This study shows the challenge in surgeon's cultural change, and highlights the value of leadership on constant supervision and training of involved staff in order to achieve a successful checklist implementation. It expresses the importance of adapting the verification document to daily activities and not activities to the document.
