OBJECTIVE: To identify what is currently known about melanoma during pregnancy in order to identify the main characteristics of melanoma during pregnancy and contribute to the community to carry out a fast and effective management. Most of the drugs traditionally prescribed are contraindicated during pregnancy, with a few exceptions. METHODOLOGY: A systematic search of literature was carried out using the electronic databases PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science. The terms used to carry out this search were melanoma AND nevus AND pregnancy, using articles published in the last 5 years as inclusion criteria, regardless of the type of article design and of the language in which they were published. RESULTS: Sentinel node biopsy is indicated according to the TNM only under local anesthesia. Most of the drugs traditionally prescribed are contraindicated during pregnancy, with a few exceptions. Recent progress has been made in research on therapeutic targets such as PLAC1 (placenta-specific 1) that require further study. CONCLUSIONS: There is still not enough evidence to support the increased incidence of melanoma in pregnancy; however, its hormonal environment could favor its appearance, so previous lesions should be observed, detecting early changes through the ABCDE of melanoma. Early diagnosis and treatment improve the prognosis and survival rates of these patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
