The paper reviews pressing issues related to corporate taxation in the oil industry amid the financial crisis, sanctions imposed against Russia, and low oil prices. It pays special attention to the analysis of the first results of the tax reform and to the introduction of a profit-based tax. The main goal of the research is to develop and implement a modern and efficient tax regime that would ensure a continuous and stable flow of tax revenues to the national budget and contribute to the long-term development of the national oil industry. The subject of the study is the current issues of oil taxation, in particular, the application of the taxation mechanism of the financial results of oil companies and the reform of the taxation system of export duties to the oil refining industry. Wage tax is one of the most successful taxes in Mexico's tax policy, but its results do little to improve the efficiency of the Mexican tax system and reduce the gaps in social inequality. The goal is to show how much the wage tax contributes to federal tax revenue, which has become an elementary pillar of tax policy. It is a documentary research with descriptive scope. In the last decade, the wage tax contributed about 50% of the income tax collected and almost 25% of federal tax revenue, so, of every four pesos earmarked for public spending, one peso was borne directly by the working class. This paper develops a model that assumes politicians' rationality when fixing tax rates applied on revenue and consumption of each taxpayer. The paper also suggests some factors to consider are political mobility of voters and economic expectations, which can explain regressive tax reforms adopted in Latin America since the economic crises of the 80s. Given a real decrease in resource to finance educative costs, a proposal is made for establishing a special contribution that grants federative entities additional resources in order to finance their basic education expenditures. The nature of the distribution scheme to be considered generates incentives so the subnational governments can increase their disbursements in basic education. It is estimated that if this contribution had been set forth in the fiscal year of 2006, with a rate of 5% it would had collected 61,779.0 million pesos. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
