The school and the workplace often characterize two diverse cultures in terms of what is treasured as important skills and values. The role of vocational teachers is to ensure that the students are surrounded by both these cultures. Because the way vocational education and vocational teaching is valued in the courses enclosed to the area of construction and painting field, the students miss a lot of knowledge to become an conscious citizen. However, because of significant differences between the school and the workplace, this positions a professional challenge and a potential for value conflicts. This reflects in the way teachers value such things as critical thinking and the way characters for employment tend to be organiseed in the education. Some values change with the help from schooling to become an educated teacher, some do not. Because years of practice in one profession tends to give a person a strong identity, and this identity follows them, until they take a constructive side too see things from additional side, with the knowledge from those around them.

I denna avhandling beskrivs och analyseras det arbete som yrkeslärare och handledare beskriver att de gör under arbetet med de arbetsplatsförlagda delarna (apl) av gymnasial yrkesutbildning. Med hjälp av teorier om situerat lärande och begrepp såsom praktikgemenskap, gränser och legitimt perifert deltagande synliggörs hur utbildning och lärande för ett yrke respektive arbetsplatsen påverkar varandra. Resultaten visar att handledning i huvud­sak beskrivs som avskild från arbetet och med reflektion som ett viktigt inslag. Handledning i direkt anknytning till arbetet lyfts sällan fram som en medveten del av arbetet som handledare. I yrkeslärarnas arbete med apl identifieras tre centrala uppgifter: att rekrytera handledare, att matcha dessa med yrkeseleverna, och att "släcka bränder" som uppstår under apl­perioderna. Vidare gestaltar sig och hanteras skillnaderna mellan skola och arbetsplats olika på de yrkesprogram som ingår i studien. Med stora likheter mellan undervisningsmiljö och arbetsplats kan konsekvensen bli att eleverna lämnas ensamma med att koppla vad som sker i skolan till deltagande på arbetsplatsen. När lärarna däremot behöver överbrygga stora skillnader mellan skolans och arbetsplatsens praktikgemenskap behöver detta ske varsamt för att inte förändra den praktikgemenskap lärarna utbildar för. This dissertation describes and analyses the work thot vocational teachers and supervisors describe that they do during the work with the workplace­based learning (WBLJ ports of upper secondary vocational education. With the help of theories about situated learning and concepts such as community of practice, boundaries and legitimate peripheral participation, it is mode clear how education and learning for a profession and the workplace affect each other. The results show that supervision is mainly described as sepa­rate from the work and with reflection as an important element. Supervision in direct connection with the work is seldom highlighted as a conscious part of the work as a supervisor. In the vocational teachers' work with WBL three key tasks ore identified: ta recruit supervisors, to match these with the vocational students, and to 'extinguish fires' that occur during the WBL periods. The differences between school and workplace ore shaped and handled differently in the vocational programmes included in the study. With great similarities between the school and the workplace, the consequence eon be that students ore left alone linking what happens in school to participation in the workplace. When teachers need to bridge major differences between the school and the workplace’s internship community, this needs to be done carefully so as not to change the internship community the teachers train for.

The focus of this study is on two vocational teachers´ stories of grade assessment. The teachers are Leif and Johnny, who teach in the industrial technology programme in two different upper secondary schools in Sweden. The research method we use in the study is life stories. From the vocational teachers’ stories emerge different categories of assessment criteria that show different considerations, as compared to the national knowledge requirements, when grading students with one of the five pass grades. The categories for passing grades are: the grade awarded as a prize rating, the grade awarded as being an okay-guy, the grade awarded in advance, and the grade awarded as a last chance. The categories show that the vocational teachers Leif and Johnny, in their assessment documents, do not always comply with the requirements that the syllabus and steering documents put on the knowledge assessment. Leif and Johnny use different forms of knowledge measurements when grading their students with passing grades. The forms are based on their social relations with their students. Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur yrkeslärare som undervisar på industritekniska utbildningar reflekterar kring, flippade klassrum som undervisningsmetod. Metoden som använts i studien har varit kvalitativ och tre stycken yrkeslärare har intervjuats. Tidigare forskning om flippade klassrum och olika lärstilar ligger till grund för analysen.Resultatet visade att flippade klassrum har många positiva effekter för både lärare och elever. För många elever blir inlärningstiden många gånger mindre jämfört med traditionell undervisning. Många lärare blandar traditionell undervisning med flippade klassrum och variationen gör att eleverna lättare kan lära sig nya saker.Min slutsats blev att flippade klassrum är en omtyckt undervisningsmetod av både lärare och elever, men att det är tidkrävande för lärarna i början och att det blir en omställning för eleverna som förväntas vara mer förberedda innan en lektion startar. Läraren och eleverna som arbetar med flippade klassrum måste mer eller mindre vara teknikintresserade för att modellen ska fungera. The purpose of the study is to investigate how vocational teachers who teach industrial engineering education reflect around, flipped classroom as a teaching method. The method used in the study has been qualitative and three vocational teachers have been interviewed. Previous research on flipped classrooms and different learning styles forms the basis for the analysis.The result showed that flipped classrooms have many positive effects for both teachers and students. For many students, learning time is many times less compared with traditional teaching. Many teachers mix traditional classroom with flipped classroom and the variation allows students to learn new things more easily.My conclusion was that flipped classrooms are a popular teaching method of both teachers and students, but it is time-consuming for the teachers at the beginning and that there will be a change for the students who are expected to be more prepared before a lesson starts. The teacher and the students working with flipped classrooms must more or less be technically motivated for the model to work.

Ett inkluderande arbetssätt kan sammanfattas i att en skolverksamhet ska möta varje elev utifrån elevens förutsättningar och behov. Teori och forskning visar att inkludering är ett komplext begrepp som kräver kunskap för att som yrkesverksam inom skolverksamheten kunna omsätta teori till praktisk handling.Syftet med denna studie har varit att belysa och skapa en medvetenhet kring ämnet inkludering och dess utmaningar utifrån tre yrkeslärares, en rektors och en specialpedagogs perspektiv på handelsprogrammet. De utmaningar jag har fokuserat på handlar om inkluderingsarbete på handelsprogrammet. Vidare har jag i studien analyserat hur de yrkesverksamma inom skolan arbetar med ett inkluderande arbetssätt. Studiens forskningsfrågor har besvarats genom kvalitativa intervjustudier. Resultatet har analyserats med hjälp av teoretisk bakgrund och forskning med fokus på olika inkluderingsperspektiv enligt de intervjuades utsagor.Studiens resultat visar att inkludering är en utmaning i skolans vardag som handlar om att möta varje elev utifrån deras egna förutsättningar och behov. I studien framkommer även svårigheter inom skolverksamheten i arbetet med inkluderingsperspektivet eftersom skolan tillhandahåller begränsade resurser. Utifrån studiens resultat kan inkludering förstås som ett viktigt begrepp som bör genomsyra skolverksamheten på ett organiserat och strukturerat sätt. Studien visar också att det finns potentiella utvecklingsområden för att på ett bättre sätt i framtiden tillgodose elever i behov av särskilt stöd på gymnasieskolans yrkesprogram. Keywords: vocational education, vocational students, vocational teachers, inclusion, challenges, business and administration programme An inclusion approach can be summarized as the requirement on schools to meet each student based on that student’s abilities and needs. Theory and research shows that inclusion is a complex concept; this requires professional teachers in schools to have the right knowledge in order to be able to translate theory into practice. The purpose of this study has been to highlight and create awareness of the subject of inclusion and its challenges based on the perspectives of three vocational teachers, one principal and one special education teacher in the Business and administration programme. The challenges I have focused on concern the inclusion work in the Business and administration programme. Furthermore, the study also includes an analysis of how the professionals at the school work with an inclusive approach. The study's research questions have been answered by qualitative interview studies. The results have been analyzed by using theoretical background and research with a focus on different inclusion perspectives based on the interviewees' statements. The results of the study show that inclusion, which is about meeting every student based on that student’s circumstances and needs, presents a challenge for schools in every day life. The study also shows difficulties within the school itself to work with the process of the inclusion perspective as only limited resources are available. Based on the study’s results, inclusion is understood to be an important concept which should be part of all school activities in an organised and structured way. The study also shows that there are potential areas of development in order to better accomodate students in need of special assistance at the secondary school vocational programmes in the future.

Syftet med detta arbete är att undersöka vilka metoder och hjälpmedel karaktärsämneslärare, och då specifikt de på det nationella omvårdnadsprogrammet, använder sig av när de undervisar elever med annan språkbakgrund än svenska och som har språksvårigheter. Vi vill öka kunskapen om hur vi som lärare kan förbättra möjligheten för dessa elever att nå upp till kursmålen. Den metod vi valt för att genomföra denna undersökning är kvalitativa intervjuer. Vi har genomfört intervjuer med nio lärare på omvårdnadsprogrammet i tre städer runt om i Sverige. Resultatet visar att det är stora skillnader på dessa tre skolor avseende vilka resurser som finns för dessa elever i kombination med att det skiljer sig åt hur mycket tid som lärarna får för att hjälpa dessa elever. Lärarna som vi intervjuat resonerar lite olika kring hur mycket extra tid och hjälp de ska ge åt dessa elever. Alla är överens om att det är ett stort problem. Lärarna anser att de gör så gott de kan och använder sig av ganska lika metoder, vilka ofta också styrks av litteraturen. Det samtliga lärare säger sig sakna är kompetens i att undervisa elever med annan språkbakgrund. Inte heller i de lärarutbildningar vi känner till tar man upp detta ämne eller undervisar om specifika metoder eller hjälpmedel för denna elevgrupp. Det de intervjuade önskade sig för att kunna förbättra undervisningssituationen för elever med annan språkbakgrund än svenska var inga omöjliga önskningar: datorer till alla elever, att man i ett tidigt skede upprättar åtgärdsprogram samt ökat samarbete med de lärare som undervisar i svenska som andraspråk. Resultatet visar att behovet av vidareutbildningar i interkulturell pedagogik är stort och bör ske inom en snar framtid. The aim of this exam paper is to examine what methods and tools vocational teachers, particularly those teaching at Omvårdnadsprogrammet, use when educating students with a native language other than Swedish and who also have language difficulties. We hope to enhance the knowledge how we as teachers can increase the potential of these students. In our survey we have used qualitative interviews. We conducted interviews with nine vocational teachers in three different cities in Sweden. Our result shows big differences in the three schools regarding the resources given to this group of students in combination with how much time teachers get to devote to these students in order to help them. The teachers we have interviewed have different views on how much time and help they will spend on these students. All the teachers agree on that this is a huge problem in these schools today and that they are doing the best that they can. The methods they use are pretty similar and the literature corroborates these methods. All teachers claim they lack competence to teach students with another first language than Swedish. None of the universities that we know of teach future teachers about this group of students, nor do they teach methods and tools to help students. When asked what would make teaching easier, the teachers’ requested: computers to all students and that measures to help these students are planned early on in their education. Furthermore they felt a need to increase the cooperation with the teacher of Swedish as a second language.
