This paper aims at analyzing the relationship between workers and "platforms" and "applications", as well as the possibilities for their regulation, in the light of the use of new information and communication technologies (ICT). In order to do so, we present the main elements of the dominant narrative in the "platforms", contrasting them with the empirical evidence derived from the relationships established. Contrary to business rhetoric, these relationships are characterized by an intense exploitation of labor. Technically, it has never been easier to regulate labor law. However, politically, it may never have been so difficult. The narrative about what these companies are plays an important role in promoting this kind of management, even though there are signs of workers' resistance to this process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper studies how a group of delivery workers in Barcelona were able to organize a successful traditional and a social media strategy in order to claim for their rights as waged workers. They created a union, RidersxDerechos, and they also decided to create a worker's cooperative, Mensakas, with their own application and algorithm. We will study how they were able to re-appropriate technology and to use digital communities to spread alternative discourses. We have used different methodologies: traditional content analysis in Media, debate analysis in Social Media, qualitative ethnography. We noticed that RidersxDerechos access to media was very successful (300 piece of news analyzed) thanks to strikes and court trials, facilitating a change of perspective in the treatment of platform economy in Media. Media were following up the digital entrepreneurship rhetoric until then. Along with the traditional media strategy they developed a diversified communicative pathway in social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Goteo) that helped them to establish alliances with riders from other cities and countries. We focused on more than 25.000 tweets. Finally, they proposed a new way to use technology by creating their own app and algorithms for their working cooperative, Mensakas. This paper aims at analysing the changes in the journalists' world of work in the light of growing digital work and platform capitalism. Still under the effects of the 2007 crisis, the restructuring process of the capitalist production system has led to changes in the socio-technical basis that indicate structural changes within society in general. The binomial communication and work is the theoretical-methodological approach to understand these innovations in how capital creates value, on whose communication process the very existence of platforms depends and, consequently, both the global value chain as well as platform work. The chronicle is a textual genre with great argumentative potential. For this reason, it commonly projects the name of the chronicler as an opinion leader. The aim of this paper is to investigate the relevance of the chronicle for Luiz Ruffato's project concerning the Brazilian cultural production field. So, we made a thematic classification of the chronicles of the author published on the El País website in order to identify which theme the author is most dedicated to. We identified a predominance of texts that outline a panorama of the Brazilian politics, which allows us to affirm that Ruffato presents himself as a reference in the subject, acting as a representative of the opinion of his readers, at the same time that forms this opinion. The article discusses platform work based on the definition of uberization. This definition is understood as global trend that establishes new forms of work organization, management and control. The novelty catalysed by digital platforms refers to an algorithmic management which can be understood as a new form of control that operates in extracting and processing data from the multitude of workers, informed by the possibility of full mapping the work process. The work of cosmetic sellers is brought to the analysis in order to present typically feminine characteristics of work that are becoming generalized; also the results of empirical research with motorcycle couriers and their uberization in the city of São Paulo are discussed. This article aims to reflect on communication in flexible labor management through a discussion that dialogues with critical studies on the new forms of labor exploitation in current capitalism. More specifically, we seek to address ways of mobilizing communication in support of the organizational logic of work assumed by companies that consider themselves flexible and lean, or smart. The main focus is on the critical examination of the constitutive elements of a particular narrative, present in the contemporary world of work, which combines technological transformations and the precariousness of human labour. Contributing to research on digital platform labor in the Global South, this research surveyed 149 Brazilian workers in the Amazon Mechanical Turk (AMT) platform. We begin by offering a demographic overview of the Brazilian turkers and their relation with work in general. In line with previous studies of turkers in the USA and India, AMT offers poor working conditions for Brazilian turkers. Other findings we discuss include: how a large amount of the respondents affirmed they have been formally unemployed for a long period of time; the relative importance of the pay they receive to their financial subsistence; and how Brazilian turkers cannot receive their pay directly into their bank accounts due to Amazon restrictions, making them resort to creative circumventions of the system. Importantly, these "ghost workers" (Gray & Suri, 2019) find ways to support each other and self-organize through the WhatsApp group, where they also mobilize to fight for changes on the platform. In this article, we intend to analyze the articles published by Folha de S. Paulo regarding the Protests of June 2013 in the period between the 6th and the 7th of June, 2013, and the Protests pro-impeachment between the 15th and the 16th of March, 2015.
