Objective: Platelet function disorders due to congenital and acquired etiologies is one of the most common causes of bleeding encountered in clinical practice. Methods: Platelet disfunctions are characterized by adhesion, aggregation or secretion steps of platelet homeostasis. Results: For the evaluation of platelet function disorders, complete blood count with morphological review of platelets by peripheral blood smear should be the first step, followed by the bleeding time and specific platelet function tests (PFT). Conclusion: Platelet function tests are used to evaluate hereditary platelet function disorders, to identify the patients with bleeding risk and to follow-up the effectiveness of anti-platelet therapy.
