Date of Conference: 23-25 April 2014 Conference name: 22nd Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU), 2014 Bu bildiride giyilebilir yapıda olan ve üç boyutlu ölçüm alabilen bir ivmeölçerin çıktılarını kullanarak düşme tespiti yapan farklı algoritmaların karşılaştırılması yapılmıştır. Karşılaştırma amacıyla destek vektör makineleri, yapay sinir ağları ile elde edilen sınıflandırıcılar ve kural bazlı bir sınıflandırıcı kullanılmıştır. Sınıflandırıcıların tasarlanması ve dogrulanması amacıyla 7 farklı denekten üçer defa düşme ve düşme dışındaki günlük aktivitelere ilişkin ivmeölçer verileri toplanmıştır. Yapılan karşılaştırma sonucunda tespit doğruluğu en yüksek algoritmanın %87,76 ile destek vektör makineleri olduğu bulunmuştur. En yüksek düşme tespit oranı da %90,91 ˘ olarak kural bazlı sınıflandırıcı kullanımıyla elde edilmiştir. En yüksek özgüllük oranı %89,47 ile yine destek vektör makineleri ile elde edilmiştir. A comparative study of various fall detection algorithms based upon measurements of a wearable tri-axial accelerometer unit is presented in this paper. Least squares support vector machine, neural network and rule-based classifiers are evaluated in the scope of this paper. Training and testing data sets, which are necessary for design and testing of the classifiers, respectively, are collected from 7 people. Each subject exercised simulated falls and other daily life activities such as walking, sitting etc. Among three methods, support vector machine-based classifier is found to be superior in terms of both correct detection and false alarm ratio as 87,76% precision and 89.47% specifity. Meanwhile, best sensitivity is achieved with rule-based classifiers. © 2014 IEEE.

Süperpikseller son zamanlarda imge bölütleme ve sınıflandırma problemlerinde giderek önem kazanmaktadır. Sahne etiketlemede imge öncelikle bir süperpiksel algoritması ile görsel olarak tutarlı küçük parçalara bölütlenmekte; daha sonra süperpikseller farklı sınıflara ayrı¸stırılmaktadır. Sınıflandırma performansı kullanılan süperpiksel algoritmasının özellikleri ve parametre ayarlarından önemli ölçüde etkilenmektedir. Bu bildiride sahne etiketleme doğruluğunu iyileştirmek için birden fazla süperpiksel bölütleme sonucunu sınıflandırıcı seviyesinde kaynaştıran bir yöntem önerilmiştir. Öncelikle basit, parametrik olmayan ve eğitim gerektirmeyen SuperParsing algoritması kullanılarak süperpiksel etiketleri için olabilirlik oranları tespit edilir. Daha sonra alternatif süperpiksel bölütleme senaryoları için hesaplanan olabilirlik oranları piksel seviyesinde kaynaştırılarak, ilgili sahnenin bölütlenmesi ve etiketlenmesi tamamlanır. Önerilen yöntem 2,688 imge ve 33 etiket içeren SIFT Flow veri kümesi üzerinde test edilmiş ve SuperParsing’den daha yüksek sınıflandırma doğruluğu elde edilmiştir. Superpixels recently gained in importance in image segmentation and classification problems. In scene labeling the image is initially segmented into visually consistent small regions using a superpixel algorithm; then, superpixels are parsed into different classes. Classification performance heavily depends on the properties and parametric settings of the superpixel algorithm in use. In this paper, a method is proposed to improve scene labeling accuracy by fusing at classifier level the results of multiple superpixel segmentations. First, likelihood ratios are determined for superpixel labels using simple, nonparametric SuperParsing algorithm, which requires no training. Then, final scene segmentation and labeling is performed by pixel-level fusion of the likelihood ratios that are computed for alternative superpixel segmentation scenarios. The proposed method is tested on the SIFT Flow dataset consisting of 2,688 images and 33 labels, and is shown to outperform SuperParsing in terms of classification accuracy.

İlk olarak küme üyeliği düzgelenmiş en küçük mutlak fark algoritmasını (SM-NLAD) tanıtıyoruz. Bu algoritma hatanın karesi yerine mutlak değerini maliyetlendirerek dürtün gürültüye karşı sağlamlık sağlar. Sonra bu algoritmanın dürtün gürültünün olmadığı ortamlarda da diğer algoritmalarla karşılaştırılabilir performans sergilemesi için logaritmik maliyet çerçevesinden yararlanarak küme üyeliği düzgelenmiş en küçük logaritmik mutlak fark algoritmasını (SMNLLAD) öneriyoruz. Logaritmik maliyet fonksiyonu doğal olarak büyük hata değerlerinin mutlak değerini içerirken küçük hata değerlerinin karesini içerir. Son olarak, sayısal deneylerimizde algoritmalarımızın dürtün gürültülere karşı sağlamlığını ve dürtün gürültünün olmadığı ortamlarda da karşılaştırılabilir performans sergilediğini gösteriyoruz. In this paper, we propose robust set-membership filtering algorithms against impulsive noise. Firstly, we introduce set-membership normalized least absolute difference algorithm (SM-NLAD). This algorithm provides robustness against impulsive noise through pricing the absolute error instead of the square. Then, in order to achieve comparable convergence performance in the impulse-free noise environments, we propose the set-membership normalized least logarithmic absolute difference algorithm (SM-NLLAD) through the logarithmic cost framework. Logarithmic cost function involves the absolute value of the error for large error values and the square of the error for small error values intrinsically. Finally, in the numerical examples, we show the robustness of our algorithms against impulsive noise and their comparable performance in the impulse-free noise environments. © 2014 IEEE.

Bu amaçla, bağlanım alanı parçalara ayrılmış ve oluşan bölgeler bağlam ağacı ile simgelenmiştir. Her bölgede bağımsız bağlanım algoritmaları kullanılarak bağlam ağacı tarafından gösterilebilen tüm doğrusal olmayan modellerin kestirimleri, hesaplama karmaşıklığı bağlam ağacının düğüm sayısıyla doğrusal olan bu algoritma ile uyarlanır olarak birleştirilmiştir. Önerilen algoritmanın performans limitleri, veriler üzerinde istatistiksel varsayımlarda bulunmaksızın incelenmiştir. Ayrıca, teorik sonuçları izah etmek için sayısal bir örnek sunulmuştur. In this paper, we consider the problem of sequential nonlinear regression and introduce an efficient learning algorithm using context trees. Specifically, the regressor space is partitioned and the resulting regions are represented by a context tree. In each region, we assign an independent regression algorithm and the outputs of the all possible nonlinear models defined on the context tree are adaptively combined with a computational complexity linear in the number of nodes. The upper bounds on the performance of the algorithm are also investigated without making any statistical assumptions on the data. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the theoretical results. © 2014 IEEE.

Bu bildiride, yapısal veri belirsizlikleri altında doğrusal kestirim problemi incelenmektedir. Maliyet fonksiyonu olarak ortalama karesel hata (MSE) düşünülmüştür ve sınırlı belirsizlikler altında gürbüz bir algoritma önerilmiştir. Sunulan yöntem yarışmacı algoritma yapısına sahiptir ve bu yapıya ulaşmak için doğrusal kestiricinin performansı, bilinmeyen veri belirsizliklerine göre ayarlanmış doğrusal enküçük MSE (MMSE) kestiricisinin performansına göreceli olarak tanımlanmıştır.Daha sonra, bu göreceli performans ölçütünü en kötü durumdaki sistem modeline göre enküçülten doğrusal kestirici bulunmuştur. Bu yarışmacı kestiriciyi bulmak için çözülmesi gereken problemin yarı-kesin programlama (SDP) problemi olarak düşünülebileceği gösterilmiştir. Ayrıca, teorik sonuçları izah etmek için sayısal örnekler sunulmuştur. In this paper, we consider the linear estimation problem under structured data uncertainties. A robust algorithm is presented under bounded uncertainties under the mean square error (MSE) criterion. The performance of the linear estimator is defined relative to the performance of the linear minimum MSE (MMSE) estimator tuned to the underlying unknown data uncertainties, i.e., the introduced algorithm has a competitive framework. Then, using this relative performance measure, we find the estimator that minimizes this cost for the worst-case system model. We show that finding this estimator can equivalently be cast as a semidefinite programming (SDP) problem. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the theoretical results. © 2014 IEEE.

Date of Conference: 24-26 April 2013 In this paper, a Compressive Sensing based feature extraction algorithm is proposed for flame detection using infrared cameras. First, bright and moving regions in videos are detected. Then the videos are divided into spatio-temporal blocks and spatial and temporal feature vectors are exctracted from these blocks. Compressive Sensing is used to exctract spatial feature vectors. Compressed measurements are obtained by multiplying the pixels in the block with the sensing matrix. A new method is also developed to generate the sensing matrix. A random vector generated according to standard Gaussian distribution is passed through a wavelet transform and the resulting matrix is used as the sensing matrix. Temporal features are obtained from the vector that is formed from the difference of mean intensity values of the frames in two neighboring blocks. Spatial feature vectors are classified using Adaboost. Temporal feature vectors are classified using hidden Markov models. To reduce the computational cost only moving and bright regions are classified and classification is performed at specified intervals instead of every frame. © 2013 IEEE.

H.264 standardında devinim vektör farklarının kodlanması sebebiyle özellikle düşük bit hızlarında nesne sınırlarında devinimdeki ani değişiklikler harcanan bit miktarlarını artırmaktadır. Bu bildiride B-çerçevelerde kod çözücü desteği ile verimli devinim vektör kodlama için özgün bir yöntem sunulmuştur. Bu yöntemde kod çözücü gerçek devinim kestirimi kullanarak az sayıda aday vektör içeren bir vektör kümesi belirler. Devinim kestirim doğrulu günün iyileştirilmesi amacıyla bu aday vektörler etrafında kısıtlı bir arama yapılır. Bu aramaya en iyi olma ihtimali düşük vektörler dahil edilmeleyerek aday vektor alt-kümesinin küçük tutulması sağlanır. Sonuç¸ta her makroblok için aday vektör kümeleri kod çözücü tarafından belirlendiği için, belirtik bir şekilde devinim bilgisinin kodlanmasına gerek kalmamakta ve bu da kodlama için gerekli bit hızını düşürmektedir. Algoritmanın aynı bit hızlarında referans H.264 sonuçlarına göre 0.39 dB PSNR kazancı sağladığı gösterilmiştir. Ayrıca sıkıştırılmış B-çerçevelerin görsel kalitesinde kayda değer bir iyileşme gözlenmistir. In H.264 standard, because of differential coding of motion vectors, sudden motion changes in object boundaries increase the amount of bits used for coding especially at low bitrate regimes. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm that uses decoder support for efficient coding of motion vectors in B-frames. In this method, decoder uses true motion estimation to determine a vector set that contains a limited number of candidate vectors. To improve the motion estimation accuracy, a constrained search is performed around each candidate vector. Vectors with low probability of being optimal are excluded from this search in order to reduce the size of candidate vector subsets. As a result since these candidate vector sets are fully determined by the decoder for each macroblock, there is no need for explicit coding of motion information, which reduces the bitrate required for coding. The algorithm provides an average 0.39 dB PSNR gain for B-frames when compared to the reference H.264 results at equal bitrates. Simulation results also indicate significant improvement in visual quality of the compressed B-frames. Publisher's Version

Videoda çerçeve hız artırımı (ÇHA), devinim denkleştirme yöntemlerinin kullanılmasıyla hareketlerin daha keskin ve sürekli gösterimini sağlayarak görsel kaliteyi artırmaktadır. Fakat, devinim kestiriminde karşılaşılan problemler ÇHA başarımını etkileyen yapaylıklara neden olabilmektedir. Bu bildiride, kodlayıcı desteği ile kodçözücüdeki ÇHA art işleminin başarımını artıran bir yaklaşım önermekteyiz. Bu yaklaşımda, kodlayıcı, ÇHA sırasında yardımcı olabilecek yan bilgiyi türetip kodlayarak kodçözücüye göndermektedir. Kodçözücü, bu yan bilgiyi kullanarak ÇHA ile daha kaliteli çerçeveler sentezleyebilmektedir. Geliştirilen algoritma, ÇHA sırasında özellikle kapatmadan kaynaklanan yapaylıkları azaltarak önemli görsel kalite kazançları sağlamaktadır. Ayrıca çeşitli video içeriklerinde kodlayıcı destekli ÇHA ile sentezlenen çerçevelerin ortalama PSNR değerlerinin, aynı bithızında H.264 standardı ile kodlanan B-çerçevelere göre daha yüksek olduğu gözlenmiştir. With the use of motion compensation techniques, video frame rate up-conversion (FRC) achieves sharp and continuous motion representation and hence improves visual quality. However, motion estimation errors create artifacts that degrade the performance of FRC methods. In this paper, we propose to provide encoder assistance to improve the performance of FRC postprocessing at the decoder. In this approach, encoder generates and codes any side information that could assist the decoder during FRC. The decoder uses this side information to enhance the quality of the frames that are synthesized by FRC. The proposed algorithm improves the visual quality significantly by reducing artifacts especially in occluded regions. Also, for some video contents, frames that are synthesized by encoder assisted FRC have higher average PSNR when compared to H.264 encoded B-frames at the same bitrate. Publisher's Version

Date of Conference: 22-24 April 2010 In this paper, a successive cancelation approach is proposed to estimate Doppler frequencies of targets in pulse Doppler radar systems. This technique utilizes the Doppler domain waveform structure of the received signal coming from a point target after matched filtering and pulse Doppler processing steps. The proposed technique is an iterative algorithm. In each iteration, a target that minimizes a cost function is found, and the signal coming from that target is subtracted from the total received signal. These steps are repeated until there are no more targets. The global minimum value of the cost function in each iteration is found via particle swarm optimization (PSO). Performance of this technique is compared with the optimal maximum likelihood solution for various signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) values based on Monte Carlo simulations.

We propose a mesh geometry coder that utilizes spectral methods and a set partitioning approach for coding the spectral coefficients. The spectral method of [1] not only achieved high rate-distortion performance on irregular meshes, but also allowed progressive transmission of meshes by truncating the coefficient vector and performing reconstruction with a small subset of coefficients that contain most of the total energy. In this paper, mesh geometry is projected onto an orthonormal basis that is derived from the mesh topology as in [1], and the spectral coefficients are coded with the set partitioning sorting algorithm of [2]. Since the method achieves implicit bit allocation to the spectral coefficients of the three coordinates and efficiently codes the significant coefficient location information by jointly coding the zeroes in the bit planes of these coefficients the rate- distortion performance of the proposed method is superior to that of [1] as demonstrated by our experiments on common irregular meshes. Önerilen spektral yöntemde, nesne geometrisinin [1]'de olduğu gibi topolojiden türetilen birimdik bir taban üzerine izdüşümü alınmakta ve elde edilen katsayılar [2]'nin küme bölüntüleme algoritmasıyla kodlanmaktadır. Yöntem üç koordinata ait spektral katsayılara dolaylı bit ataması başardığı ve önemli katsayılara ait konum bilgisini bu katsayıların bit düzlemlerindeki sıfırlarını birleşik kodlayarak verimli kodlama sağladığı için, yaygın düzensiz tel fileler üzerinde yaptığımız deneylerde [1]'e göre daha iyi hız-bozunum başarımı vermektedir. Üretilen bit katarı da tamamen gönüllüdür.

This paper addresses the problem of bar code recognition by use of image processing. Bar codes are composed of parallel alternating dark-light stripes; hence they also appear as parallel lines connected at some orientation in a binary edge map. The proposed algorithms exploit that feature and use morphology and free angle thresholding for localization. Edge map is formed by Sobel operator and binary subband decomposition separately, and the two methods are compared in terms of time complexity and performance. Detailed discussion of test results are also presented. ©2005 IEEE.

In this paper, an algorithm which performs the singular values decomposition of a noisy matrix has been presented in order to make noise reduction by rank estimation of the noise free data matrix. In this study the rank estimation methodis done by finding ratios of among all consecutive singular values and selecting the maximum of these ratios as the noise threshold.
