This study investigated the effects of salinity and K-humate concentrations on soybean germination. The findings contribute to our knowledge of soybean germination under salt stress and the potential use of potassium humate. The experiment was conducted in the laboratory of the Department of Field Crops at Adnan Menderes University, Turkey. Seeds were surface-sterilized and placed on filter paper in Petri dishes. Different concentrations of water (control), NaCl solution (3 dS m-1), and K-humate solution were added. The experiment followed a factorial design with two factors and four replications. K-humate had a positive impact on germination rate. Significant differences were observed among control, salinity, and salinity * K-humate applications. Salinity reduced germination percentage. K-humate mitigated the negative effects of salinity, improving germination. These findings suggest the potential use of K-humate to enhance seedling establishment and overall plant productivity in salinity-affected environments.

3. The Effect of L-Tryptophan and Melatonin on Seed Germination of Some Cool Season Vegetable Species Under Salinity Stress

This study was carried out with the objective to evaluate the effects of different concentrations of L-Tryptophan and Melatonin pretreatment on germination behavior of onion, leek, black carrot, and radish seeds exposed to saline stress. Seeds of samples were soaked for 24 hours in distilled water, 50,100, 150 ppm L-tryptophan, and 1.5, 3, and 4.5 µM melatonin solutions at 20° C in darkness. Seeds were placed in Petri dishes and watered to moisten the filter paper with different concentrations of NaCl (0, 150, 300 or 450 mM). The experiment was planned in a completely randomized design with four replications. Maximum germination percentage, germination index, time to complete 50% germination and mean germination time was measured at the end of the study. The results indicated that the effect of pre-treatment was significant on all studied traits in all species except for mean germination time for black carrot seeds. In addition, all germination parameters of seeds were delayed and decreased by salinity increasing from 0 mM to 450 mM NaCl. Overall, all doses of melatonin increased the maximum germination ratio and germination index values slightly under 300 mM NaCl stress conditions. In general, results which obtained from all doses of melatonin were close to each other, whereas increasing doses of L-tryptophan caused a negative effect in some cases.

Bu çalısma ile tuzlu ve alkali toprakların sınıflandırma tarihçesi ve mevcut durumun genel hatlarıyla ortaya konulması amaçlanmıstır. Tuzlu ve alkali topraklarla ilgili sınıflandırma çalısmaları geçen yüzyılın basında baslamıs ve bu topraklar farklı kriterler içeren çesitli sınıflandırma sistemleri ile sınıflandırılmıslardır. Bu sınıflandırmalar özellikle toprakların içerdigi tuz ve sodanın cinsi ve miktarına baglı olarak “ veya olarak sınıflandırılabileceginden baslamıs daha sonra pratik ve uygulama amaçlı gereksinimlere cevap verebilme durumlarına göre detaylandırılmıstır. Bugün yeni gelistirilmis olan dünya toprak sınıflandırma sistemi WRB de tuzlu ve alkali toprakların sınıflandırılmasında U. S. soil taxonomy, rus ve macar sınıflandırma sistemlerinin kriterleri görülmekte olup basit, fakat anlasılır ve gelistirilebilir kategorileri içermektedir. This paper is aimed to explain the history current state of the classification of salt-affected soils. Since the beginning of the past century salt-affected soils have been classified with different criteria into several classification schemes. These differences are mainly based on the salt and soda content and type classifying a soil as “Solonchak” or “Solonetz” and used for practical and application purposes. In several countries classification systems have been developed and these classification systems are defined on the basis of the classification criteria. At Present, the newly developed world soil classification system WRB includes the criteria of the U.S. soil taxonomy as well as criteria of the Russian and Hungarian soil classification systems and theWRBcontains easy and clearly understandable categories capable of development.

Dr. Şahin SAKA Ocak 1999, 78 sayfa Bu araştırmada, biotik ve abiotik faktörlere bağlı olarak görülen hava hesesi hipertrofisi sonucu levrek (Dicentrarchus labrax L.) larvalarında meydana gelen ölümlerin en aza indirilmesine çalışılmıştır. Deneme %o26 ve doğal deniz suyu tuzluluğunda gerçekleştirilmiştir. Tanklarda meydana gelen hipertrofinin minimuma indirilmesinde tuzluluğun yanı sıra ışıklandırma faktörünün etkisi de incelenmiştir. Doğal deniz suyu uygulanan tanklardaki hava kesesi oluşturma oranı % 69-77 arasında olduğu saptanmıştır. Yaşama oranı ise % 1-4 olarak tespit edilmiştir. %o 26 tuzluluk uygulanan tanklardaki hava kesesiV oluşturma oranı ise % 80-98, yaşama oranı % 4-29 olarak bulunmuştur. VI ABSTRACT EFFECT OF SALINITY AND LIGHT INTENSITY ON HYPERTROPHIC SWIM BLADDER IN SEA BASS (Dicentrarchus labrax (L.)) LARVAE In this study, decreasing of mortality which caused swim bladder inflation depend on biotic and abiotic factors was studied on the sea bass larvae. The experiments were carried out in natural (38 %o) and 26 %o sea water. For minimising of hypertrophy in tanks, the effect of lighting factor in addition salinity was examined. The percentage of swim bladder inflation was determined between 69 and 77 % in natural sea water tanks. The survival rate was calculated between 1 and 4 %. In 26 %o salinity applied tanks, the percentage of swim bladder inflation between 80 and 98 % and survival rate between 4 and 29 % was determined respectively. In this paper, lighting and salinity factors was determined effective on the swim bladder inflation and survival rate. Bu amaçla çalışmalar, Tl ve T2 tanklarındaki tuzluluk iki günde %o26'ya, T3 ve T4 tanklarındaki tuzluluk beş günde %o26'ya indirilmiş ve T5 ve T6 tankları %o37 tuzlulukta tutulmuştur. Bu sonuçlara göre en yüksek yaşama yüzdesi doğal deniz suyu kullanılan T5 ve T6 tankında bulunmuştur. February 1999, 89 Papers In this study, until the opening of anus and mouth, natural sea water (%o37) is considered as the control group, that the development of length and digestive line, yolk-sac and oil-globule are examined comparison of salinity reduction in 5 and 2 days. The studies with this aim, the salinity of tanks Tl and T2 are decreased to %o26 in two days, T3 and T4 to %o26 in five days and T5 and T6 are kept at %o37. As a result of this study, the highest survival rates were found in natural sea water tanks T5 and T6. In addition, the best total and digestive line development and absorption of endogenous food reserves were determined in decreasing salinity during 5 days in T3 and T4 tanks. However, there were no significant differences between 5 days and 2 days İn Tl and T2 reduced salinity protocol.
