Abstract

Objective: The P3 potential is the most studied event-related potential (ERP) component in cognitive electrophysiology. Two subtypes of P3 potentials are well known, P3a and P3b. The P3a potential occurring in response to non-target, novels has a more centro-frontal topography in contrast to the parietal P3b of the target responses in the three-stimulus (novelty) paradigm. The P3a potential is assumed to reflect passive, involuntary switching of attention or orienting, while P3b potential is related to selective attention and memory updating processes. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of novel stimuli on the ERP responses to target stimuli, especially P3b component, in auditory three-stimulus paradigm. Material and Method: ERPs were recorded via 30 electrodes with auditory three-stimulus paradigm from fifteen healthy volunteers. Intervals between novel and target stimuli were randomly varying among 4, 6, and 10 s. Also, for each novel-to-target interval groups' target-to-target intervals were randomly varying among 14, 16, and 18 s with a mean value of 15.8 s. The amplitude and latency of ERP responses to target stimuli in each interval group were measured and analyzed by repeated measures analyses of variance (ANOVA). Results: The amplitudes of N1 and N2 potential were significantly different among the novel-to-target intervals (p<0.05). However, there were no significant differences in amplitudes and latencies of P3b among the intervals groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: Our results suggest that time-based localization changes of novel stimuli between two target stimuli do not affect the P3b response. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The effects of various animal sources in Çanakkale on human health and their distribution properties were evaluated in the study. The relationship between the faunal characteristics and the human activities in the region in observing zoonotic diseases or cases of poisoning based on various animal sources in Çanakkale was investigated. The findings of many investigations on the region and the statistical data of the institutions concerned were used in the study. In addition, the interviews with the physicians working at the health institutions in the province contributed to the production of data. Besides the presence of the cases of Crimean-congo hemorrhagic fever, brucella, anthrax, snake bites, animal-borne food poisoning and etc. in the region, the risks of diseases such as avian influenza, malaria and rabies were detected. The factors influencing the occurrence of animal-borne diseases and their distribution properties in the region as well as the areas under risk were specified by means of the study. Detecting the spatial and seasonal distributions of some of the diseases concerned will contribute to planning public health and emergent health services in the province in general., Çalışmada Çanakkale ilindeki çeşitli hayvansal kaynakların insan sağlığı üzerindeki etkileri ve dağılış özellikleri değerlendirilmiştir. Çanakkale’de zoonotik hastalıkların ya da çeşitli hayvansal kaynaklara bağlı zehirlenme olgularının görülmesinde, yöredeki fauna özelliklerinin ve insan etkinliklerinin ilişkisi araştırılmıştır. Çalışmada yöre hakkında yapılmış birçok araştırmanın bulgularından, ilgili kurumların istatistik verilerinden yararlanılmıştır. İldeki sağlık kuruluşlarında görev yapan hekimlerle görüşmeler de veri üretilmesine katkı sağlamıştır. Yörede Kırım- kongo kanamalı ateşi, brucella, şarbon, yılan sokmaları, hayvansal kaynaklı besin zehirlenmeleri vb olguların varlığının yanı sıra kuş gribi, sıtma, kuduz vb hastalık risklerinin bulunduğu saptanmıştır. Çalışma ile, yörede hayvansal kaynaklara bağlı hastalıkların ortaya çıkışında etkili olan faktörler ve dağılış özellikleri ile riskli alanlar belirlenmiştir. Söz konusu hastalıklardan bazılarının mekansal ve mevsimsel dağılışlarının saptanması, il genelinde halk sağlığı ve acil sağlık hizmetlerinin planlanmasına katkı sağlayacaktır.
