The aim of this study is to determine the effect of cognitive apprenticeship method on students' self-efficacy beliefs and attitudes towards ceramic education. In the research, a model with pre-test and post-test control group, which is one of the quasi-experimental designs, was used. The study group of the research consists of 46 students studying in two classes, one is control and the other is experimental, at the 6th grade level. The selfefficacy belief scale and attitude scale for ceramic education developed by the researchers were used to collect the data. Dependent and independent samples t-test from parametric tests was used in the analysis of the data. According to the results of the study, a significant difference in favor of the posttest was found between the experimental group and the control group in the self-efficacy beliefs towards ceramic education and the attitude towards ceramic education pre-test and post-test mean scores. There was no significant difference between the experimental and control groups between the groups for self-efficacy belief posttest mean scores for ceramic education. A significant difference was found in favor of the experimental group between the attitude posttest mean scores of the experimental and control groups towards ceramic education. Based on the results of the research, it is recommended that the studies in the visual arts course of the cognitive apprenticeship should be conducted for a longer period of time. SELF-efficacy in students , *DISCRIMINANT analysis , *ASSOCIATE degree education , *SOCIAL sciences education , *REGRESSION analysis , *VOCATIONAL guidance - Abstract
This study addresses the relationships between self-efficacy, proactive personality and career adaptability. It was carried out on associate degree students studying social sciences in a public university in İstanbul. It is found that there are positive relationships between these variables and that self-efficacy and proactive personality contribute to career adaptability which is very important in terms of current career approaches. As a result of regression analysis and Sobel test performed, proactive personality is found to be serving as a complete mediator role in the effect of self-efficacy on career adaptability. It is revealed, through discriminant analysis, that self-efficacy of students does not differ according to demographic variables, but their proactive personality and career adaptability differ only pursuant to the departments in which they study. The aim of the research is to determine the self-efficacy perceptions of secondary school students towards Turkish lesson and to evaluate self-efficacy perceptions in terms of gender and grade level variables. This research has aimed to reveal an existing situation was conducted according to the survey model. The sample of the study has consisted of 249 students studying (in 5-8 grades) at a secondary school in Giresun city center. The data are collected with the Turkish Self-Efficacy Perception Scale developed by Durukan and Maden (2012). In the analysis of the obtained data, the arithmetic means in the analysis of the self-efficacy averages; t test is used for gender variable and one-way analysis of variance is used to test the grade level variable. At the end of the research, it has been found that middle school students' perceptions of Turkish self-efficacy (generally and always) are not at a good level and corresponded to an indecisive and therefore uncertain range. In addition, Although the female students' self-efficacy is higher than the boys, the difference between them is not at a level that can make a difference and the grade level and is an effective variable on self-efficacy perception. SELF-efficacy in students , *GENDER , *PRIVATE sector , *PUBLIC sector , *PUBLIC works , *SELF-efficacy - Abstract
It was aimed to determine the entrepreneurship tendencies of students and to evaluate whether self-efficacy perception and demographic variables (age and gender) had an effect. A total of 339 students, 242 female and 97 male, participated in the study. When we look at the findings, a significant positive correlation was found between students' self-efficacy levels and entrepreneurship tendencies (r = 0.384; p <0.01) and it was concluded that self-efficacy level had a significant effect on entrepreneurship tendency (p = 0.000; p < 0.01). In terms of gender, it was found that male students had higher entrepreneurship tendencies than female students (p = 0.004; p <0.05). There was no significant relationship between age factor and entrepreneurial tendency (r = -0.034; p> 0.01). Another finding of the study is that 60.8% of the students stated that they wanted to work in the public sector after graduation. Other students stated that they wanted to work in the private sector (15.3%) or they wanted to start their own businesses (9.4%), respectively. It was observed that the findings obtained within the scope of the research were similar to the results expressed in the literature (except for the age variable). At the same time, it was emphasized that the sample group should be expanded and the number of variables affecting the entrepreneurship tendency should be increased for further studies. FOREIGN language education , *CONFIRMATORY factor analysis , *FOREIGN students , *SELF-efficacy in students , *EDUCATION - Abstract
In this study, a speaking self efficacy scale is aimed to be developed to determine self efficacy of foreigners learning Turkish regarding their speaking skills. The validity and reliability of the scale was realized with the data collected from 86 foreign students attending Gazi University TÖMER C Level Courses for Turkish in Ankara. In the analysis of data, discriminant validity of each item found in the item pool was examined. Two way t- test results in independent groups show that items have the required discriminant validity (for each item p<,01. The second step of data analysis included exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, which produced a scale with 19 items under two factor structures. These two factors account for % 68,22 of variance and it is seen that factor loadings change between,664 and,894. RMSEA and IFI values are taken as reference in confirmatory factor analysis. The values obtained from the analysis show that the scale has a good compliance and it can be applied to learners that learn Turkish as foreign language. [χ²(147, N=86) = 224.52, p<.000, RMSEA= 0.079, S-RMR= 0.049, GFI= 0.78, AGFI= 0.72, CFI= 0.98, NNFI= 0.98, IFI=0.98]. The results obtained show that the model is confirmed by the data. ERIKSON Psychological Stage Inventory , *PSYCHOSOCIAL development theory , *SELF-efficacy in students , *SOCIAL status , *COLLEGE students , *UNIVERSITIES & colleges - Abstract
The purpose of this study was two-folded. The first aim of the study was to compare the statistical properties of two widely used questionnaires to test Erikson's Psychosocial Stages of Development, namely EPSI and MEPSI, in order to determine their reliability and validity for Turkish university students. The second purpose of the study was to determine the value of Erikson's Psychological Stages to predict university students' self efficacy beliefs. According to the data collected from 636 university students and 74 adults, MEPSI demonstrated stronger properties with reliability values ranging from .72 to .82. Its criterion validity was evident since sub stages had significant correlations with corresponding variables all in the expected directions. Also, as Erikson postulated, predictive values of each psychosocial stage changed for life satisfaction, identity achievement and satisfaction for close relationships. Finally, self efficacy belief was related to psychosocial development in that both industry and initiative stages explained %34 of the total variance in explaining self efficacy beliefs. The aim of this descriptive study is to determine high school students' perceptions of efficacy level of school student councils. The population of the study includes 11th grade high school students in Diyarbakır city center in 2008-2009 academic year. The sample includes 12 high schools chosen randomly. The schools were grouped as General, Anatolian and Vocational Technical High schools. There are four schools in each group. Data were collected by using a 20-item five-point Likert-style scale. Totally 1185 students were administered the scale. Cronbach alpha value of the scale was measured to be 0.92, Kaiser-Meyer Olkin (KMO) measure of sampling adequacy of the scale was measured to be 0.94 and Bartlett's test was calculated to be 3690,402 (p<0.05). There are five factors in the scale named electing and being elected, democratic culture, participation, respect and communication. Data were analyzed in terms of gender and school type variables. Anova, t test, KWH, MWU and LSD tests were used to analyze the data. Findings revealed that school student councils helped students realize importance of electing and being elected, developed their decision making skill and gave them opportunity of learning their rights in school. Students' views on building communication differed in terms of gender and school type variables. Male students could have the chance of building communication more than female students. Students of vocational high schools found school students more effective than the students of general and Anatolian high schools. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
