- Abstract
The aim of the Leininger's Cultural Care Theory is to explain the differences in nursing care interventions in human cultures and to explain the effects of culture on the health status of individuals. The literature states that cultural competence is an important component of health care quality and has a curative effect on health care outcomes. This case report aims to evaluate a male patient living in the village with the Sunrise Model and to draw attention to the results of culturally adequate nursing care. Findings for cultural care features are discussed under ten headings. During the process, the researcher cooperated with the patient, patient's relative, nurses, and physicians and made the patient's cultural assessment using the appropriate communication language. After assessing the patient in terms of the cultural aspect, appropriate cultural care decision was taken, and cultural care was evaluated. In the patient's cultural assessment, some traditional practices (fig consumption with olive oil, use of herbal tea) were determined. For these practices, which have no adverse effect on the patient, the nurse took a "decision of cultural care preservation/maintenance". As a result, the patient was given holistic and culturally adequate nursing care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
