The aim of this study was to determine the perceived barriers in weight management among university students. This research was descriptive and conducted with 258 students enrolled in a state university in the 2015-2016 academic year. The data were collected through a questionnaire developed by the researchers. It was determined that 5.8% of the students were obese, 36.8% had three daily meals, 5.4% didn't skip meals, and 50.0% didn't exercise adequately. It was determined that the most frequent responses to personal, environmental and social factors that prevented healthy eating were "not being able to find the time", "selling unhealthy food outside", "lack of people consulted". The most frequent responses to personal, environmental and social factors that hinder physical activity were "I prefer to rest because I'm tired", "Gym registration fee is expensive" and "I don't get support from my close friends". Although there were some differences in comparison between the gender of the students and the barriers to healthy nutrition and physical activity, these barriers existed for both genders. Consequently, it is recommended that students are informed about healthy nutrition, physical activity and time management, and the university is supportive of the development of healthy eating and physical activity behaviors. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the factors that barrier exercise compliance in individuals receiving weight control counseling and to develop recommendations for increasing exercise compliance and continuity. Methods: This study was carried out as a cross-sectional study in Karadeniz Technical University Family Medicine outpatient clinic between April 2018- March 2019. A questionnaire was prepared by the researchers to question the sociodemographic characteristics of the participants as well as the factors that prevent exercise compliance/exercise continuity. The questionnaire was applied to the participants by face to face interview method. Data of 384 participants were analyzed. Results: The median of the participants was 29 (IQR:23.0-41.0) years and 78.6% of the participants were women. It was found that 92.7% (n = 356) of the participants did not exercise. When the causes that prevented exercise compliance/exercise continuity were questioned, laziness was the most frequent reason with 67.1%. Lack of adequate time (54.4%) and difficulty in maintaining exercise (50.0%) were detected as two other important causes. The percentage of people who chose the option that not to believe in the benefit of exercise was 1.1%. When the participants were asked to rank the first three among the reasons, laziness was the most common cause with 43.5%. Conclusions: We are detected that, almost all of the participants did not exercise. In this study, the most important reason of non-exercise was found to be laziness. Participants who did not believe in the benefit of exercise were very few (1.1%).This was promising in terms of suggesting that success could go to very high levels when community-oriented studies were combined with person-based programs. In this context, it will be beneficial to raise awareness of the positive effects of individuals on exercise and health and to provide motivation for increasing physical activity levels. Purpose: The aim of the study was to determine the effect of functional disability on quality of life in patients who were diagnosed with gonarthrosis. Materials and Methods: This descriptive and crosssectional study was conducted between November 2016 and September 2017. The study included 173 patients who applied to a university and a public hospital orthopedic clinic that in the western part of Turkey. Data were collected using personal information form, visual analog scale (VAS), The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), and SF-36. Results: The average age of the patients participating in the study was 62.17±9.14 years, 82.7% were female, and 66.5% w ere o bese. It was found that 7 4.0% of the participants were employed in jobs requiring body strength, 24.9% had regular exercise and 89.6% had difficulty in daily living activities. The mean scores obtained from the scales are as follows; VAS:7,47±1.77, SF-36 physical component 26.23±5.94 and mental component 42.81±6.84, WOMAC-pain:13.28 ± 3.69, WOMAC-stiffness:3.61±1.99, WOMAC functional dissability: 42.65±10.27 and WOMAC-total score 62.02±14.91. The WOMAC total score was found to have a negative effect on the physical component (ß=-0.251) and mental component (ß =-0.138). Conclusion: It was determined that functional disability had a negative effect on quality of life in patients with gonarthrosis. In order to reduce functional disability and improve quality of life, it is recommended that nurses provide education on all subjects such as weight management, regular exercise and lifestyle changes. Today an increasing prevalence of obesity, which is one of major health problems is associated with many chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke, cancer, asthma obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. Therefore, treatment of obesity contribute to prevention of many chronic diseases risk. Recent years, it has started to consider on effects on the gastrointestinal system in treatment of obesity as well as adequate and balanced diet, increasing physical activity and lifestyle changes. Especially it was seen that gut microbiota has been associated with obesity. Many studies showed that gut microbiota may be vary with eating habits and obesity. It is discussed changed microbiota might be associated with obesity and many obesity-related diseases. It is thought that long term-controlled studies in this area will create a new approach to the treatment of obesity and come into prominence in the fight against obesity.
