Narcolepsy type-1 is a rare chronic sleep disorder that has negative effects on quality of life if left untreated. Symptoms such as excessive daytime sleepiness, cataplexy, sleep paralysis, disrupted night sleep, vivid dreams, psychosomatic complaints, and decreased sexual desire are also observed. Diagnosis will be made according to the criteria in the international classification of sleep disorders 3rd edition 2023 revision (ICSD-3-TR-2023). In our case, there was excessive daytime sleepiness, disrupted night sleep, cataplexy, overeating, and increased sexual desire. As a result of clinical data, polysomnography, and multiple sleep latency tests, she was diagnosed with narcolepsy type-1 according to the ICSD-3-TR-2023 guidelines. In the differential diagnosis of excessive sexual desire, it was planned to distinguish "persistent genital arousal", "restless genital syndrome", "sexomnia", and "hypersexuality" diseases. According to the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders fifth edition criteria, "hypersexuality" accompanying narcolepsy type-1 was diagnosed in the patient. To date, no increase in sexual desire has been reported in the literature regarding the diagnosis of narcolepsy type-1. In this case, it is aimed to discuss a case of hypersexuality that has not been observed to date, together with a diagnosis of narcolepsy type-1, in the light of the literature. In the biomedical domain, the surge in article volume means valuable insights on diseases and symptoms are often hidden in academic literature. Leveraging natural language processing and text mining to sift through biomedical texts is vital for advancing early diagnosis, enhancing clinical decision support systems, and refining ontologies. Particularly for respiratory diseases, which share symptoms like fever, cough, and breathlessness, differentiating between diseases based on symptoms is crucial for early and accurate diagnosis. This study introduces a method for extracting disease-symptom relationships, aiming to identify rare symptoms not mentioned in health resources but potentially related to diseases, and to ascertain the association strength between diseases and symptoms. Initially, a hybrid entity recognition approach was proposed for identifying diseases and symptoms in medical texts. Then, the diseases and symptoms were normalized, and their associations ranked by semantic similarity scores. Evaluated on a dataset of respiratory diseases, including academic article abstracts on asthma, bronchitis, pulmonary embolism, and COVID-19, the study uncovered rare symptoms in addition to characteristic ones. The dot product similarity method proved more effective, achieving an average similarity score of 0.66, in establishing the associations between diseases and symptoms, revealing the significance of literature validation in identifying rare symptom-disease relations. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common sleep disorder with serious complications. Considering the association of untreated OSA with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, some types of cancer, and cardiovascular diseases, early diagnosis is clinically vital for this disease. Polysomnography (PSG) is the most definitive approach to detect OSA, but it requires expert technical service, is considered a costly procedure, and is not readily available. Thus, simpler and inexpensive screening tools are necessary. There is a growing interest in the use of portable home sleep apnea testing devices for the diagnosis of OSA in recent years, but the efficacy of evaluation and testing with these portable devices is still debatable. Considering the high cost of PSG, which is the most reliable method for OSA diagnosis, an approach with lower cost and high sensitivity to detect OSA is required. The head and neck region and oral cavity enclose clinical parameters associated with OSA, which may enable dental practitioners to play an important role in referring patients at risk of OSA to clinics for early diagnosis. In the present review, the risk factors of OSA are evaluated with clinical findings, many clinical and radiological parameters associated with OSA in the head and neck region are presented together with current literature information, and the auxiliary diagnostic methods that can be utilized by dental practitioners to determine the risk of OSA are presented. Objective: We aimed to compare the demographic and clinical characteristics, perceptions of disease, stigma, social support levels and psychosocial adaptations of patients with COVID-19 and patients with chronic infections (TB, hepatitis, HIV) who were followed as inpatients. Methods: The cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted with 100 patients receiving inpatient treatment between January 2021 and January 2022. Criteria for selecting patients were being able to understand and speak Turkish, being at least literate, having TB, hepatitis, HIV or severe COVID-19 disease, and being an adult (over 18 years old). Data were collected using a personal information form, "Psychosocial Adjustment to Illness Scale-Self-Report", "Revised Illness Perception Questionnaire", and "Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale". Results: We determined that there was a significant difference in terms of demographic characteristics (age, education, marital and employment status) and hospitalization duration of individuals with COVID-19 and chronic infections (TB, hepatitis, HIV) who received inpatient treatment. There was also a significant difference in personal and treatment control, illness coherence, emotional representation dimensions, and attributions towards possible causes of the disease, as well as feelings of stigma, social support perceptions, and psychosocial adaptation. Conclusion: This study not only underscores the need for a biopsychosocial approach to individuals with contagious infectious diseases but also provides practical insights for healthcare professionals. Addressing the patients' perception of their illness early on can significantly improve patient beliefs, leading to more effective patient-centered treatment outcomes. Objective: Brucellosis is the most common zoonotic disease worldwide. The main way of transmission is contact with infected animal tissues or ingestion of infected animal products. Brucellosis is endemic in Latin America, Africa, the Mediterranean region, the Middle East, and Western Asia. Over 500 000 cases are reported annually worldwide. This study aimed to evaluate our region's epidemiological, demographic, laboratory data and clinical findings of endemic brucellosis cases. Methods: Brucellosis patients over the age of 18 who applied to our hospital between January 01, 2022, and December 31, 2022, were included in the study. The patients were evaluated retrospectively in terms of their complaints, physical examination findings, complete blood count, liver function tests, C-reactive protein value, sedimentation rate, ferritin and vitamin D values, standard tube agglutination and Coombs agglutination test results and culture growths. Results: Fifty-seven percent of the patients were male, and 67% were between the ages of 20 and 50. Sixty-nine percent of the patients lived in rural areas, and 88% of them had consumed unpasteurized milk or dairy products as a risk factor. The most common complaints at presentation were fever, joint pain, and sweating, and the most affected system was the musculoskeletal system. Brucella spp. growth was detected in the blood culture of 60% of the patients whose blood cultures were taken. Conclusion: Brucellosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of patients presenting with complaints such as joint pain, fever and sweating in regions with large numbers of people dealing with animal husbandry. Background: It was aimed to examine the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of 638 children who applied to Şanlıurfa Training and Research Hospital for Special Needs Report for Children (SNRC) and to contribute to new studies in the field of mental health with the results obtained. Materials and Methods: In our study, children and young people who applied to Şanlıurfa Training and Research Hospital for the purpose of a special needs report for children in the 6-month period between 01.10.2023 and 31.03.2024 were included. Participants' information was scanned retrospectively through the hospital information system. Results: The gender distribution of the cases was 261 (40.9%) females and 377 (59.1%) males with a male/female ratio of 1.44. The median age of the patients was 94.5 months (IQR 25/75: 51/134 months). When the distribution of the diagnoses of the cases was analyzed, it was observed that the problems in the cognitive domain were in the first place. In the cognitive domain, the most frequently reported condition was mental capacity at a level requiring an HSN (has special needs) rate. Speech sound disorder and ASD (autism spectrum disorder) were found to be statistically significantly higher in males. The level of need for HSN was found to be more frequent in males. In the diagnoses of delayed milestone, delayed development of receptive or expressive language, and speech disorder (all diagnoses within speech sound disorder within the scope of SNRC), it was found that the group with a statistically significant diagnosis had a lower average age than those without a diagnosis. In the diagnoses of childhood-onset speech fluency disorder and specific learning disability, the mean age of individuals with a diagnosis was statistically significantly higher than that of individuals without a diagnosis. Conclusions: Child and adolescent mental health and illness specialists and all health professionals who care for children should have the necessary knowledge to make appropriate referrals to ensure the educational and social rights of children and young people with special needs. In this context, it is important that physicians working with children and adolescents in our country have sufficient knowledge about SNRC and that their awareness on this issue is increased. Background: Family health centers, which facilitate access to healthcare services in the community and are known for their reliability, play a critical role in the early diagnosis and screening of breast cancer. This study aims to assess the knowledge levels and awareness of breast cancer among family physicians and healthcare workers who play a vital role in increasing public awareness of breast cancer. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted with family physicians and healthcare workers serving in family health centers in Samsun province. An online survey using Google Forms was i mplemented to assess participants' knowledge and awareness about breast cancer. Results: A total of 263 people, 188 women (71.5%) and 75 men (21.5%), were included in the study. 44.5% of the participants were family physicians and 55.5% were family health workers. 96.8% of women reported having self-breast examination. Women who stated that they did not have a mammogram (38.8%) stated that the reason was that they did not have a ny complaints at a rate of 27.8%. Family physicians w ere more likely to respond to suggestions about breast cancer risks and symptoms than family health professionals (p<0.05); Women gave more correct answers than men (p<0.05). Conclusions: The study results indicate that women have good awareness of breast cancer screening, but participants have inadequate knowledge about national breast cancer standards and breast cancer risk factors. It is important to provide in-service training at regular intervals within the framework of the duties and responsibilities of health professionals in order to increase their knowledge about breast cancer early detection and screening programs and to develop positive health behavior changes. Background: Studies on brain development show that the first years of life are significantly more important than all other times of life. The first symptoms of neurodevelopmental disorders that affect speech, learning and social communication skills are seen in infancy and early childhood and are often diagnosed in the preschool period.The early period of life is a period in which there is a great deal of dependence on the external environment compared to other periods of life. It is stated that the experiences and developing psychiatric disorders during this period shape the brain and affect lifelong mental health, behavior, and learning. It is stated that since the brains of young children are extremely resilient to environmental stress, interventions made during this period are more effective than later interventions, and the return is highest in the early years. This study aimed to retrospectively evaluate the clinical, sociodemographic and daily screen media use characteristics of infants and young children who were referred to the infant mental health clinic for further, detailed evaluation. Materials and Methods: Our study included 175 infants and young children between the ages of 0-6 who were referred to the infant mental health clinic for detailed evaluation. Clinical files of the patients, including their sociodemographic and clinical characteristics and psychiatric disorder diagnoses according to DSM-5, were evaluated retrospectively. Results: 80% (n=140) of the evaluated patients were diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder. The average age of patients at diagnosis was 32.06 months (SD = 10.66). 49.7% (n=87) of the patients had Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), 12% (n=21) had Intellectual Disability (ID), 8.6% (n=15) had Communication Disorder (CD), %5.1 (n=9) of the patients were diagnosed with ID+ASD, 4.6% (n=8) were diagnosed with ID+CD, and 5.1% (n=9) of the patients were found to have autistic trait even though they were not diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder. The average daily screen exposure time of the patients was found to be 4.28 (SD = 2.64) hours. Conclusions: The period of infancy and early childhood is the most fundamental and critical period in terms of brain development. Early detection and intervention of psychiatric disorders seen in this period is very important for both the prognosis of the disorders and the reduction of risk factors that may negatively affect brain development. Objective: Granulomatous dermatitis (GD) is a group of diseases grouped under two main headings: infectious and non-infectious, characterized histopathologically by granulomas and may also present with systemic findings. Granulomatous inflammation may be limited to the skin only or may occur as a symptom of a systemic disease. Material and Methods: 105 patients included who were clinically and histopathologically diagnosed with non-infectious GD in our clinic between 2006 and 2023. Results: Of the 105 patients included in our study, 79 were female and 26 were male. The mean age of the patients was 45.72 (age range 2-77). While 12 of the patients were under the age of 18, 12 patients were over the age of 65. The diagnosis of the patients were granuloma annulare (n=43), followed by sarcoidosis (n=24), necrobiosis lipoidica (n=12), interstitial GD (n=6), granulomatous rosacea (n=5), panniculitis (n=5), granuloma fasciale (n=2), Crohn’s disease (n=2), granulomatous vasculitis (n=2), piyoderma gangrenozum (n=1), post herpetic GD (n=1), lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei (n=1), granulomatous mycosis fungoides (n=1) and elastolytic giant cell granuloma (n=1). Conclusion: GDs are a heterogeneous group of diseases with varying clinical and histopathological findings. Histopathological morphology alone is rarely specific and is not sufficient to make a definitive diagnosis of the disease that plays a role in etiology. Objective: To examine the relationship between carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and sleep quality in different trimesters of pregnancy and to investigate whether there is a difference between trimesters in terms of sleep quality and CTS symptoms. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted between August 2021 and June 2022 at gynecology and obstetrics polyclinic. The sample of the study consisted of voluntary pregnant women between the ages of 18 and 45 years. Demographic data of pregnant women were evaluated with personal information form, sleep quality with Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), CTS symptoms with Boston carpal tunnel questionnaire (BCTQ), and grip strength with hand dynamometer. Kruskal-Wallis and Spearman correlation tests were used in the analyses. Results: The mean age of 219 pregnant women included in our study was 29.00±4.50 years, and the mean gestational age was 22.70±11.18 weeks. According to PSQI, 80.5% (n=177) of the pregnant women had poor sleep quality (≥5 points). When the trimesters were compared in terms of the evaluated parameters, a significant difference was found between the 1st and 2nd trimesters and the 2nd and 3rd trimesters among the subjective sleep quality sub-dimensions of PSQI (p=0.002). A positive correlation was found between BCTQ-Symptom and PSQI subjective sleep quality and PSQI daytime dysfunction, and a negative relationship was found between dominant handgrip strength (p<0.05). In addition, a positive correlation was found between the BCTQ-Function score and PSQI subjective sleep quality, sleep duration, and total scores, and a negative relationship was found between dominant hand grip strength (p<0.001). Conclusion: The sleep quality of pregnant women is low, and the presence of CTS has been confirmed as one of the reasons that reduce sleep quality. CTS symptoms during pregnancy negatively affect the sleep quality of pregnant women in the 1st and 3rd trimesters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute-phase protein that is widely used and can be elevated in many conditions that lead to acute inflammation, including infectious diseases. In this study, we aimed to determine the rate of presence of an infectious disease in patients who were consulted because of a high CRP level. Methods: Inpatients and outpatients consulted to the Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology (IHCM) Clinic between January and March 2022 because of high CRP levels were included in the study. The anamnesis, physical examination, and laboratory findings of the patients were recorded, and the existence of an infectious disease was investigated. Results: 124 patients were referred for consultation during the study period. CRP levels of 6 (4.9%) patients were within average reference values; the remaining 118 patients were included in the study. Of the 118 patients, 54 (45%) had clinical complaints consistent with an infectious disease. A focus of infection was detected in only 49 (42%) patients. We found that there was a significant relationship between the presence of symptoms consistent with an infectious disease and the presence of a positive physical examination finding with the presence of an infectious focus (p<0.05) Conclusion: In this study, we determined that more than half of the patients for whom consultation was requested due to high CRP levels did not have an infectious disease. We think that unnecessary consultation burden can be avoided by detailed clinical evaluation of the patients before referring them for consultation by only looking at the CRP results. Background: Motor Neuron Diseases (MNDs) are progressive neurological disorders characterized by the degeneration of upper and/or lower m otor neurons. T he t erm M ND includes Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS), Hereditary Spastic Paraparesis (HSP), Progressive Muscular Atrophy (PMA), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), Hirayama Disease, Kennedy Syndrome, Poliomyelitis and Postpolio syndrome (PPS). While both upper and lower motor neurons are involved in ALS, only upper motor neurons are involved in Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS), Hereditary Spastic Paraparesis (HSP), and only lower motor neurons are involved in Progressive Muscular Atrophy (PMA), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), Hirayama Disease, Kennedy Syndrome, Poliomyelitis and Postpolio syndrome (PPS). We aimed to investigate the clinical, demographic, and electrophysiological characteristics of MND patients who presented to our university hospital in Şanlıurfa province. Materials and Methods: 190 patients diagnosed and followed up with MND in the Neurology and Neuromuscular clinics and Electroneurophysiology laboratory were retrospectively analyzed from the medical records of patients between 2018 and 2023. 18 patients were excluded from the study because of insufficient file data. Patient data, including age, gender, presenting complaints, examination findings, family history, and electrophysiological features, were recorded. Results: Of the 172 patients included in our study, 103 were male and 69 were female. 54 patients were diagnosed with ALS, 3 with HSP, 2 with Kennedy syndrome, 21 with SMA, 4 with Hirayama disease, 82 with poliomyelitis sequelae, and 6 with PPS. Among the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients, 22 were female and 32 were male. Fifteen patients had bulbar-onset symptoms, while 39 had spinal-onset symptoms. The initial symptom in 17 patients originated from the lower extremities; and in 22 patients, it started in the upper extremities. In 36 patients, ulnar nerve distal motor latencies (DML) were shorter than median nerve DML, and 24 of these patients had higher ulnar nerve compound muscle action potentials (CMAP) than median nerve CMAP. One of the 3 patients with HSP had a complicated type. Electromyography (EMG) of the tibialis anterior muscle in patients with sequelae of poliomyelitis revealed bilateral involvement in 55 patients and unilateral involvement in 7 patients. Slowing of conduction velocity was detected in 2 patients, and trap neuropathy i n t he m edian n erve w as observed i n 2 other patients. T he a verage a ge of 6 P PS patients w as 5 4.25±8.057. A mong t he patients diagnosed with Hirayama Disease, 1 was female, and 3 were male. Three patients were between 20-30 years old, while one of them was 58 years old. Myelomalacia at the C6-7 level was detected in the cervical imaging of one patient, and two patients had bilateral involvement without symptoms, while the other 2 had unilateral involvement. Aim. This study aims to investigate the therapeutic effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on the negative symptoms of chronic schizophrenia and serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Methods. A total of 86 patients with chronic schizophrenia hospitalised from March to October 2019 were randomly assigned to the active rTMS group or the sham rTMS group, with 43 patients in each group. All patients were administered paliperidone orally at a dose of 3--6 mg/d, and rTMS treatment was given to the active rTMS group. The Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) score and the serum BDNF concentration were calculated in both groups at baseline and after two and four weeks of treatment. Results. There were no statistically significant differences in the PANSS scores and serum BDNF concentrations between the two groups before treatment (p > 0.05). However, after four weeks of treatment, the change in the score on the negative symptom scale in the active rTMS group was greater than in the sham rTMS group (p < 0.05), and the serum BDNF levels in the active rTMS group were higher than in the sham rTMS group (p < 0.05). Conclusions. Four weeks of continuous rTMS treatment can effectively improve the negative symptoms of schizophrenia, and the serum concentration of BDNF increases as the duration of rTMS treatment increases. The SARS-CoV-2 virus is the cause of the COVID-19 disease. Infection can take a wide variety of forms, from asymptomatic to severe, with numerous complications that can even lead to death. Since the beginning of the pandemic, numerous studies have been carried out to find out the exact expression of the virus. COVID-19 infection also increases the risk of developing neuropsychiatric symptoms, including psychosis. The paper presents the case of a 35-year-old woman with no prior psychiatric interview who developed acute psychosis after being infected with COVID-19. She was treated in the standard way: haloperidol, lorazepam and diazepam. The symptoms disappeared quickly. At the moment, the long-term consequences of SARS-CoV-2 infection are not known, therefore further observation and research in this direction is necessary. Treatment, as shown in this case report, appears to be supportive and symptomatic. Objective: We aimed to evaluate the epidemiological, clinical features, laboratory findings, and treatment regimens of patients with brucellosis in the Tokat region. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the data of 236 adult patients followed with brucellosis in Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Medical Faculty Hospital between January 2016 and December 2021 were evaluated retrospectively. Diagnostic criteria of brucellosis were determined as culture positivity, or positivity in the Wright test at ≥ 1/160 titration, or a 4-fold increase in titer of the Wright test repeated at 2 - 3 week intervals. Demographic data, symptoms, physical examination findings, and laboratory results of the patients were evaluated. Results: 72% (n=170) of the patients were male, and the mean age was 44.47±16.64. 53% (n=125) were engaged in animal husbandry, 21.6% (n=51) consumed unpasteurized dairy products, and 13.1% (n=31) had a family member with brucellosis. Seven (2.9%) patients with a prediagnosis of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) were diagnosed with acute brucellosis. The most common symptoms were muscle-joint pain (70.3%), fever (50.8%), and sweating (43.2%). Spondylodiscitis was observed in 13.6%, epididymal-orchitis in 8.2%, and neurobrucellosis in 0.4% of the patients. Blood culture positivity was detected in 7.2% of the cases. 91.5% had elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, and 48.3% had elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rates. The most common hematological findings were anemia (28%), leukopenia (10.6%), and thrombocytopenia (8.5%). As a therapy doxycycline + rifampicin combination was started at 36%, doxycycline + gentamicin to 5.8%, doxycycline + streptomycin to 5.4%, and doxycycline + rifampicin + gentamicin to 29.7% of the patients. Alternative treatment regimens were given to 22.9% (n=54) of the patients. Conclusion: Brucellosis is still a critical zoonotic disease in our region. It should be kept in mind when diagnosing patients with fever, muscle-joint pain, and sweating, with epidemiological histories, have elevated acute phase reactants and cytopenia. Background: Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a skin disease caused by protozoan parasites belonging to the Leishmania genus. The most commonly preferred treatment option for CL treatment is pentavalent antimony compounds. The aim of this study is to investigate the clinical characteristics and treatment responses of patients diagnosed with CL treated with systemic antimony. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 52 patients diagnosed with CL and treated with systemic antimony in our skin and venereal diseases clinic between May 2018 and May 2020. The clinical and demographic characteristics recorded in the patients' files were examined. Systemic antimony (intramuscular meglumine antimonate (IM MA)) was administered Results: 30 (57.7%) of the patients in our study w ere female a nd 22 (42.3%) were male. The average age of the patients was 26.5±14.23 years. Lesions were most frequently located in the facial region, and noduloulcerative type lesions were most frequently seen. The diagnosis of CL was made by observing amastigotes in the cutaneous smear in 48 (92.3%) patients and in the histopathological examination of the lesioned skin in 4 (7.7%) patients. When the patients receiving IM MA treatment were evaluated at the 12th week in terms of treatment response, complete clinical recovery of the lesions was observed in 50 (96.1%) patients and partial clinical improvement was observed in 2 (3.9%) patients. Chronic coronary syndromes (CCS) are coronary artery diseases (CAD) with no long-term clinical change. It is common and negatively affects the quality of life of patients. The most common etiologic cause is atherosclerosis. The most important symptom is chest pain. Anamnesis and physical examination are usually diagnostic. Diagnostic tests guide decision making in those with moderate CAD suspicion. The use of multislice computer tomography is prominent in the diagnosis in recently guidelines. It is recommended to use functional diagnostic methods rather than anatomical diagnosis in treatment. The main treatment is medical treatment and preventive measures. Citrus tristeza virus (CTV), one of the casual agents of citrus decline, is responsible for the death of millions of citrus trees and reduced production and productivity of citrus orchards worldwide. CTV epidemics has been recorded from several parts of the world where mainly steam pitting (SP) and quick decline (QD) strains of CTV have induced severe disease reactions. Identification and characterization of CTV isolates primarily has been focused on the biological assaying in indicator plants, serology-based ELISA and molecular PCR tests. Controlling the presence and spread of CTV where it is absent or establishment is limited heavily relies upon preventive measures, quarantine and legislations. Cross protection is an appealing technique especially for controlling CTV – Stem Pitting strains and use of CTV resistant rootstocks largely prevent infection by CTV – Quick Decline strains. More reliable and effective way to control CTV is breeding for resistant or tolerant cultivars. Advances in molecular biology have lead scientists to find out genes and map genetic loci of CTV resistant citrus and related species that could be exploited in breeding. However incorporation of resistant ability offered by a handful of citrus and its related species into the susceptible cultivars containing other desirable agronomical traits is challenging through classical plant breeding approaches. The following review work is based on Citrus tristza virus and its management practices.

A 32-year-old female patient with fever, myalgia, and dyspnea who was positive for SARS-CoV-2 PCR was followed with symptomatic treatment. She presented with palpitations, high fever, tremors, stinging sensation during swallowing, and severe pain in the neck region after 21 days. The patient was diagnosed with subacute thyroiditis as a result of clinical, laboratory, and imaging findings. Introduction: Lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) are defined by the World Health Organization as one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality in childhood worldwide. This study was conducted to determine the importance of vitamin D level and iron deficiency in the clinical course of the disease in patients aged 6-24 months with LRTI. Materials and Methods: In this study, we included patients who were hospitalized in the pediatric unit due to LRTI at Necmettin Erbakan University Meram Medical Faculty from 6-24 months old. Patients with vitamin D and/or hemogram levels were selected between September 2019 and December 2021. In control group, we choose who applied to our hospital for any reason without LRTI and have vitamin D and or hemogram level in our record. When retrospectively scanned, 82 patients with LRTI s and 84 people in the control group were included. Clinical findings, laboratory values and demographic values of both groups were collected retrospectively. SPSS 22.0 program was used for statistical analysis. A p<0.05 was considered significant. Results: In patient group; 27 (32.9%) were female and 55 (67.1%) were male, in the control group; 46 (54.8%) were female and 38 (45.2%) were male. There was no statistically significant difference between the patients with LRTI and the healthy control group in regard of gender and age. Mean Vitamin D level and Vitamin D level were determined to be significantly lower in the patient group respectively; p=0.01, p=0.037. We evaluated by Vitamin D and hemoglobin level, there was no statistically significant result between the two groups in terms of hospitalization, treatments and clinical severity of LRTI. Vitamin D levels were found to be statistically significantly higher in patients who received vitamin D prophylaxis compared to those who did not (p=0.043). Conclusion: We think that it would be appropriate to evaluate the patients for vitamin D value who followed up with LRTI . Objective: Pregnancy causes changes in the duration and quality of sleep. Insomnia, insufficient sleep time, and symptoms associated with restless legs syndrome/Willis-Ekbom disease (RLS/WED) are frequently described during pregnancy. We aimed to evaluate the deterioration in sleep quality during pregnancy according to trimesters and to examine the effect of RLS/WEH and its correlation with clinical and biochemical markers. Materials and Methods: Hundred pregnant women were included in the study prospectively and consecutively. Pregnant women were evaluated to determine their clinical characteristics, including demographic data, habits, and medical backgrounds by using a questionnaire. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), disease duration, severity, triggering factors, and family history for RLS/WEH were recorded. Complete blood count, fasting blood glucose, kidney function tests, ferritin, iron and iron binding capacity were also analyzed. Results: The mean age was 28.8±6.0 years. PSQI values were significantly higher in the third trimester (p=0.044), and ESS values were similar between trimesters (p=0.524). RLS/WEH was detected in 34% of the pregnant women; there was no difference between trimesters (p=0.188). The PSQI score was significantly higher in RLS/WEH patients (p=0.013). There was no significant difference in clinical and biochemical parameters between pregnant women with and without subjective poor sleep quality at night (PSQI >5 points). Conclusion: It is shown that night sleep quality is deteriorated in pregnant women, especially in the last trimester. The fact that the frequency of RLS/WEH is not different in pregnant women with poor sleep quality suggests the existence of other factors underlying poor sleep quality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study was carried out to determine the antibacterial effect of Saturaje hortensis L. (çibriska) essential oil, which grows naturally in Erzurum, and is known as the Koç herb plant, against soft rot in potato under in vitro conditions. Bacterial isolates were obtained from potato tubers showing disease symptoms collected from different districts of Erzurum and Erzincan provinces. Bacterial isolates obtained; pathogenicity test, hypersensitivity test and diagnosis (with Microbial diagnosis system (MIS) and Biolog systems) were performed. Essential oil was obtained from S. hortensis collected from Erzurum (Şenkaya) province by hydrodistillation method. The antibacterial effect of essential oil was tested against pathogenic bacteria isolates by disk diffusion method in petri dishes. Commercial antibiotics Rifampicin and Gentamicin were used for antibiotic susceptibility testing. As a result of the study, 10 bacterial isolates were obtained and pathogenicity test and hypersensitivity reaction test of all isolates were positive. As a result of diagnosis of pathogenic bacterial isolates by MIS, Enterobacter cloacae (7 strain) and Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum (3 strain). It has been observed that the test results of the MIS and Biolog diagnostic systems do not support each other. It has been determined that the essential oil inhibits the growth of bacterial isolates by 20-33.5 mm. The highest inhibition zone of essential oil was determined against F-37 (P. c. subsp. carotovorum, 33.5 mm) isolate, and the lowest zone of inhibition was determined against F-11 (E. cloacae, 20 mm) isolate. It was determined that the antibiotic susceptibility test in created an inhibition zone between Rifampicin 0-10 mm and Gentamicin 14.5-20.5 mm. It has been observed that the essential oil of S. hortensis has a bactericidal effect against different pathogenic bacteria isolates, but the antibiotics used either do not have any effect or have only inhibitory properties. Objective: Extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) can be easily missed due to challenges in diagnosis or overlooked in the differential diagnosis. Therefore, EPTB should be considered in endemic regions, especially in the differential diagnosis of fever of unknown origin. Methods: Adult patients diagnosed and treated for EPTB at Ondokuz Mayıs University School of Medicine Hospital between 2005 and 2018 were analyzed retrospectively. Results: One hundred and nineteen patients with a mean age of 48.4±17.8 years, including 75 (63%) females and 44 (37%) males, were included in the study. The mean age of female patients was 51.8±16.7, and the mean age of male patients was 42.6±18.4. Female patients were significantly older than male patients (p<0.05). Urban and rural residency rates were 45.4 and 40%, respectively. EPTB involved lymph nodes in 60 (50.4%), the central nervous system in 15 (12.6%), the vertebral column in 14 (11.8%), bone in 7 (5.9%), the urogenital system in 7 (5.9%), peritoneum in 6 (5%), the gastrointestinal system in 6 (5%), pleura in 3 (2.5%) and eye in 1 (0.8%) patient. Acid-fast bacilli were seen in 4 (8.1%) of 49 samples; Mycobacterium tuberculosis grew in cultures of 29 (48.3%) of 60 samples; and the polymerase chain reaction was positive for tuberculosis in 24 (52%) of 46 samples. In the histopathologic examination, caseous granulomatous inflammation was the most reported finding (41.2%). The most common adverse event related to antituberculosis drugs was hepatotoxicity. Objective: Since the resumption of face-to-face education in October 2020, which was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, coincides with the period when SARS-CoV-2 infection rates in young adults are on the rise. This study focuses on the 2019 corona virus outbreak in young adults, the largest link in the chain of transmission, which can be defined as silent contagious agents. It is aimed to provide epidemiological data by detecting virus disease (COVID-19) seropositivity with two different serological methods, and to evaluate the symptom-test performance relationship of asymptomatic/mild symptom/symptomatic cases. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with students studying at Cappadocia University health programs between December 2020 and February 2021 and who will attend practice courses face-to-face. Participants were surveyed about their COVID-19 symptoms and disease histories based on SARS-CoV-2 exposure. For SARSCoV-2 antibody detection, blood samples were taken from the participants and investigated with a single lateral flow immunoAssay (LFIA, Novatech, Turkey) cassette test. The samples with positive test result were then SARS-CoV-2 Anti-N IgM+IgG; SARS-CoV-2 Anti-S IgM+IgG; SARS-CoV-2 Anti-RBD IgG; It was re-evaluated using the electrochemiluminescence immunoassay (ECLIA) method with the anti-SARS-CoV-2 kit (Roche, Germany). Results: Of the 239 samples participating in the study, 50 (20.9%) samples that were positive for SARS-CoV2 IgM/IgG according to the LFIA method were then studied again with the ECLIA method. According to the ECLIA result, 72% (36/50) of individuals against both nucleocapsid (N) and spike (S) antigens, and 70% (35) against RBD antigen were seropositive. Based on the ECLIA test results, 239 samples were studied and 50 samples were found to be IgM/IgG positive, with a sensitivity of 64% and a specificity of 93%. Contingence history was reported in 46% (n=23) of patients who were seropositive by both methods, while 30% (n=15) showed a COVID-19 clinic. Fifty four percent (n=27) of the participants reported that they did not have a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test, but antibody response was observed in all of them. Only 28% (n=14) of seropositive patients reported positive PCR results, and 4% of them stated that they had a chronic disease. It will be important to continue to observe the serological status of young people, particularly in the context of new COVID-19 variants and in the low interest in mass vaccination campaigns targeting young people. Conclusion: It is thought that the performance of ECLIA with rapid casette test does not have a good degree of agreement and confirmation with different immunoassay tests would be more useful for epidemiological surveillance. Especially the new COVİD-19 in the context of the variants and targeting youth due to the lack of interest in vaccination champaigns continue to monitor the serological status of young people it will be important.
