INTRODUCTION: This study was investigate the impact of level of functional independence and ages on the quality of life of the mothers in children with Down Syndrome. MATERIALS and METHODS: Thirtyseven Down syndrome children (7.9±3.5 years) were included in this study. Functional independent level of children were evaluated by using Functional Independence Measure, mothers quality of life were evaluated by using Sort Form-36. Down syndrome children were classified according their Functional Independence Measure total score into two groups; need observation (36-90 scores) (n=19), and independent (91-126 scores) (n=18) groups. RESULTS: Functional Independence Measure total scores of children in need obsevation group and children in independent group were 73.7±15.4, 106.7±11.6, respectively. Sort Form -36 Physical, Sort Form -36 Mental and Sort Form -36 Total scores of children in need obsevation group were 53.1±25.1, 49.6 ± 14.9 and 102.7±37.4 and children in independent group scores were 68.3±21.6, 62.1±13,9 and 130.5±33.7, respectively. When we compared Sort Form -36 Mental and Sort Form -36 Total scores of the groups were significant in favor of independent group (p0,05). In addition, it was found no relationships between the quality of life of mothers and children age in the all groups (p>0,05). CONCLUSIONS: The results of our study suggested that functional dependence level of Down syndrome children effects on mothers’ quality of life and affected domain of quality of life was mental health. Introduction: The aim of this study was to determine whether there is an association between fall risk measured posturographically and clinical balance tests among people who are over 65 years of age, and to identify the discriminative ability of the posturographic fall risk index., Materials and Methods: Two hundred and twenty participants who were over 65 years of age were included in the study. The balance and fall risk of participants were assessed with the Berg balance scale (BBS) and a posturography device; functional mobility with the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test; lower extremity neuromuscular function with the Chair Stand test (CST) and quality of life with the Short Form-36 (SF-36). Participants were grouped into two, as fallers and non-fallers, on the basis of the past year’s fall history., Results: A total of 78 participant (35.5%) had a history of falling, while 142 (64.5%) of the subjects did not. Age, TUG and posturographic fall risk index of fallers were significantly higher than for nonfallers, whilst some subgroups of the SF-36, BBS and mean CST scores were lower (p, Conclusion: It was shown that fallers had poorer balance, functional mobility, lower extremity neuromuscular function and quality of life than nonfallers. The study also demonstrated that posturographically obtained fall risk was significantly correlated with clinical balance tests and had good discriminative ability to identify fallers. © 2014, Geriatrics Society. Diz osteoartritinde iki farklı molekül ağırlıklı hyaluronan preparatı ve metil prednisolon asetat preparatının etki ve yan etkilerini karşılaştırmak. Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu çalışmaya American College of Rheumatology kriterlerine göre diz osteoartriti tanısı konulan toplam 75 hasta katıldı. Hastalar rastgele yöntemle üç gruba randomize edildiler. Çalışmayı 69 hasta tamamladı. Grup I (n= 22) 6-metilprednizolon Asetat (6-MPA), Grup II (n=24) düşük molekül ağırlıklı hyaluronik asit (DMA HA), Grup III (n=23) yüksek molekül ağırlıklı hyaluronik asit (YMA HA) tedavisine alındı. Her üç gruba da birer hafta ara ile üç kez intraartiküler enjeksiyon uygulandı. Çalışma prospektif ve tek kör olarak yürütüldü. Hastalar radyolojik evre, fonksiyonel evre, doktor ve hasta tatmini, günlük asetaminofen kullanımı, doktorun ve hastanın global osteoartrit değerlendirmesi, ağrı, SF-36, Lequesne algofonksiyonel indeks ve Womac osteoartrit indeksi parametreleriyle değerlendirildi. Değerlendirmeler tedavi öncesi, tedavi sonrası, üçüncü ve altıncı ayda yapıldı. Enjeksiyonlardan sonra effüzyon varlığı, lokal ve sistemik yan etkiler kaydedildi. Introduction: We aimed to investigate the effects of home-based vestibular exercise and biofeedback training on balance, fall risk, functional mobility, emotional state and quality of life among osteoporotic women. Materials and Method: Sixty osteoporotic women aged over 65 were randomized to four groups of 15 people: home-based vestibular exercise, biofeedback training, vestibular exercise+biofeedback training and control group. Training programs were performed in all groups. Biofeedback training was performed in 20 minute sessions,10 sessions a month. Vestibular exercises were prescribed once daily with 10 repetitions for one month. Fall risk obtained by Tetrax, Berg balance test, Timed Up-and- Go test, Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) and Short Form-36 (SF-36) questionnaire were evaluated at the beginning and the end of the study. Objective: The aim of this study was to present demographic and clinical features of lower limb amputee patients who consulted to our orthopedic rehabilitation out patient-clinic, and to explore the related variables with functional situation in respect of amputation reason. Material and Methods: Demographic data, and clinic data of patients related to amputation and prosthesis use were recorded. Related variables with functional situation and quality of life were explored with composing two groups according to vascular and traumatic amputation reasons. Functional situation was evaluated with walking-speed with prothesis (meters/second) and 6-minute-walk-test(meters). Beck-Depression-inventory, Amputee-body-image-scale, and Short-Form-36(SF-36) were asked for replying by the patients. Results: Seventy one patients with mean age of 54,2 ±17,5 years (15-85) were evaluated. Time elapsed since amputation was 113.4 ±49.8, and mean time of prosthesis use was 84.8 ±24.8 months. Sixty two patients (%87.3) were male, and nine patients (%12.7) were female. It was detected that there were vascular amputation in 42 (%59.2), and traumatic amputation in 29 patients (%40.8).
