UNIVERSITIES & colleges , *CHEMISTRY education , *TEST validity , *SECONDARY education , *RESEARCH methodology - Abstract
In the study, the chemistry questions in the Basic Proficiency Test (TYT) and Field Proficiency Test (AYT) sessions of the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) applied in 2024 were matched with the achievements of the Secondary Education Chemistry Course Curriculum of 2018 and their content validity was examined in terms of subject size, and these questions were tested in 2024. It was evaluated in line with the opinions of the students who responded and graduated from secondary education institutions. The "Descriptive Survey Model", one of the qualitative research techniques, was used in the study. A total of 37 graduate students, 30 of whom took the exam for the first time and 7 of whom took the exam more than once, participated in the study. At the end of the study, it was determined that the students did not have difficulty in answering the Chemistry test questions asked in the TYT session of the 2024 YKS exam they found the questions quite easy, but they found the Chemistry test questions in the AYT session difficult, and they thought that the most difficult question was prepared from the "Chemistry and Electricity" unit. To examine the content validity dimension, a total of 20 questions, 7 of which were TYT and 13 of which were AYT Chemistry test questions, were matched with the achievements of the 2018 Secondary Education Chemistry Course Curriculum. It was determined that TYT-2024 chemistry test questions were prepared from .7.87% of the total gains of the 2018 Chemistry Course Curriculum, and AYT-2024 chemistry test questions were prepared from 11.02% of the total gains of the 2018 Chemistry Course Curriculum, therefore the content validity was determined to be low. MEETINGS , *DISABILITY evaluation , *UNIVERSITIES & colleges , *DESCRIPTIVE statistics , *HUMAN rights , *COMPARATIVE studies , *PEOPLE with disabilities , *RULES , *LAW , *LEGISLATION - Abstract
Background: According to the World Health Organization's 2023 estimates, 1.3 billion people worldwide, i.e., 1 in 6 people or 16% of the total world population, are seriously physically or mentally disabled. Changing disability/handicap/disablement (DHD) regulations and statutes may cause different DHD rates for the same injury. The presented study aims to determine whether the DHD rate of cases evaluated under any regulation/statute changes under other regulations or statutes, and if so, to what extent this change occurs. Materials and Methods: In the study, DHD rates calculated according to different regulations and statutes on 100 cases at two different universities were also calculated according to other regulations and statutes divided into four groups as A, B, C and D, and the differences between them were calculated statistically. Results: In the study, DED reports belonging to 100 people (mean age: 31.4±16.0), 70 men and 30 women, were evaluated. Statistically significant differences were found in 5 out of a total of six comparisons made according to different regulations and statutes. Conclusions: It was predicted that organizing joint scientific meetings in the fields of medicine and law and gathering VET calculations under a single guide, taking into account international standards and characteristics such as the person's profession, age and gender, would prevent both loss of rights and unjust gains. HIGHER education , *INSTITUTIONAL repositories , *UNIVERSITIES & colleges - Abstract
Since the early 2000s, Türkiye has witnessed significant advancements in Open Access (OA) repositories, primarily in terms of quantitative aspects. Nevertheless, notable challenges persist concerning the quality of both archives and their contents. This research investigates the current state of Turkish universities’ OA repositories and policies. It relies on data collected from university and repository websites over a span of about two years (2019-2020), divided into three consecutive periods (June 2019, March 2020, November 2020). The significance of this time interval lies in the CoHE’s efforts towards university OA repositories during this time. We compared the data collected for the three periods with the data collected by CoHE based on university declarations for similar periods, resulting in a two-way analysis. According to the findings, there is an increase in the number of university OA repositories and records in these repositories, albeit not systematically. Universities that were established earlier have a greater presence of OA repositories than those established later, regardless of whether they are public or foundation universities. On the other hand, the number of records in university OA repositories is not affected by the university’s age, type, or the presence of an OA policy, even if such a policy is mandatory. This scenario indicates that the AE policies lack sufficient functionality. When compared to CoHE data, all three periods had more repositories, but the most significant difference was seen in the number of mandatory OA policies. According to CoHE data, the number of mandatory OA policies is significantly higher than what was found in the collected data, indicating a lack of knowledge among repository managers despite the numerous national events on OA. This study distinguishes itself from related previous research by examining the current situation of OA repositories in Türkiye across three consecutive periods, using data collected directly from primary sources, comparing this data with university declaration-based data from CoHE, and analyzing the contents of OA policies. UNIVERSITY faculty , *ACCREDITATION , *UNIVERSITIES & colleges - Abstract
The research was conducted to determine the thoughts, attitudes and perceptions of the academic staff working in the academic units of Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University, located in the Central Anatolia Region, regarding the accreditation activities implemented by the universities. In addition to the information obtained from the literature on the subject, the questionnaire form, which was created using the Accreditation Perception (AA) Scale developed by Semerci (2017), was carried out with a total of 381 academic staff conducting education and training activities at Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University, which is the sample of the study, between 01-31 May 2022. The survey model was used in the study in order to reveal the existing situation and to learn the thoughts, attitudes and perceptions of the academic staff towards accreditation activities. In the study, the data obtained from the questionnaires sent to the internet addresses of a total of 381 lecturers working in 14 faculties, 1 School of Higher Education and 6 Vocational Schools affiliated to the University using the convenience sampling method were analyzed in the SPSS 25.0 package program. No hypothesis or model was established in the study, and some descriptive statistics were used in the analysis of the data, and t-test and one-way ANOVA test were used to examine the perspectives, expectations, thought levels and perceptions according to the descriptive characteristics. As a result of the research, there was no significant difference between the scale and its sub-dimensions according to the participants' educational status, age status and income, and only a significant difference was found between the scale sub-factor according to the professional status of the academics in the Perception of Accreditation (PA) Scale. In the LSD test conducted to determine the source of the difference, it was concluded that there was a significant difference between professors and research assistants, lecturers, doctoral lecturers and associate professors in their favor according to their professional status. RELIGIOUS education , *UNIVERSITIES & colleges - Abstract
Universities in Turkey admit students through central examinations. Under the scope of the Higher Education Institutions Examination (HEIE), there are two examinations, excluding the language examinations. These are the Basic Proficiency Test (BPT) and the Field Proficiency Test (FPT). In these examinations, there are questions from the courses such as mathematics, Turkish, geography, history and physics. Since 2013, questions from the Religious Culture and Ethical Knowledge (RCEK) have also been asked in these examinations. There are five questions from the RCEK in the BPT, and six questions in the FPT. A total of 11 questions are asked in the university entrance examinations each year. The inclusion of the RCEK questions in the university exams has caused various debates. The RCEK, which has been compulsory since 1982, has been taught two hours a week from the fourth grade to the 12th grade. The purpose, content and compulsory nature of the RCEK course have been and continue to be debated both nationally and internationally. Such debates help the RCEK curriculum to develop further and to produce answers to emerging needs. In this study, it is aimed to contribute to the discussions about the RCEK by analyzing various aspects of the RCEK questions asked in the university examinations. The basic assumption of this research is that as it is possible to deduce from curricula, textbooks, teacher training policies about the philosophy and approach of a course, that is also possible from the questions in the university examinations. That is because the questions in the university examinations come from the subjects and attainment targets in the curriculum prepared by the Ministry of National Education. In this context, the problem sentence of the research is “What is the relationship between the RCEK questions in the university examinations and the secondary RCEK curriculum?”. The research was designed according to the case study, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The reflection of the secondary RCEK curriculum on the HEIE questions was identified as a case, and analyzes were made within this framework. The questions included in the scope of the research consist of the 44 RCEK questions between 2019 and 2022. The following steps were followed in the data analysis process. Firstly, the questions were read several times by the researchers and the distributions of class, unit, objective and the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy were made without each other's knowledge. Afterwards, the researchers came together, and these distributions were compared and finalized. Afterwards, the characteristics of the questions were digitized and transferred into the SPSS program and frequency and percentage analyses were performed. According to the findings obtained from the study, the questions in the BPT are distributed disproportionately according to the grades. However, the questions in the FPT are normally distributed according to the grades. There are questions from all units apart from two units in the secondary RCEK curriculum. When HEIE questions are examined according to the aims of the curriculum, there are questions about all of them except one. It can be said that HEIE questions cover the aims and content of the RCEK curriculum. In the classifications made according to the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy, almost all of the questions were matched with “conceptual” and “factual” knowledge dimensions. In addition, approximately 95% of the questions were asked at the “remember” and “understand” dimensions. These dimensions are the most primary ones and aim to remember the problem from long-term memory and make sense of it. While international examinations such as the PISA and the TIMSS value high-level cognitive skills, that national examinations in Turkey such as the HEIE prioritize rote knowledge is not acceptable in terms of the goals of education. There is a need for further studies on the effect of the RCEK questions in the HEIE on the content and educational situations of the course. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

VALUATION , *SOCIAL enterprises , *UNIVERSITIES & colleges , *INTELLECTUAL capital - Abstract
Integrated reports place the evolving value of an enterprise at its core and encompass both financial and non-financial data. It captures the shifts between the initial and final valuations over a period, shedding light on how an enterprise leverages its internal resources, including intellectual, human, social and relational, natural, and produced capital. Universities generate universal value and integrated reports provide a platform to articulate their narratives of value transformation. Analyzing the integrated reports of Edinburgh University in England, North West University in South Africa, and Yıldız Technical University in Turkey, this study formulates a pioneering model for an exemplary report. MUSIC education , *CHAMBER music , *WIND instruments , *UNIVERSITIES & colleges , *VOCATIONAL education - Abstract
Primary institutions that offer professional music education are conservatories, “music education” departments attached to education faculties, and music departments attached to faculties of fine arts. Although various theoretical and practical field classes are taught and different curriculums are administered in these institutions during the undergraduate education period, varying in content and weekly hours, instrument education is the common ground of all. Playing in ensembles, which is considered to be one of the significant and supporting dimensions of instrumental education, appears in almost all undergraduate programs’ curriculums in different forms like orchestra, chamber music, correpetition, etc. Accompanied performance classes or instrument education classes are usually carried out with solo instruments and piano accompaniment. In chamber music lessons though, string ensembles, wind instrument ensembles, guitar ensembles, or diverse instrumental groups are formed. While these groups are formed, it is important that the instruments are balanced and compatible in respect of characteristics. It can be said that the flute-guitar duo has a substantial place in chamber music, both from the aspects of compatibility and ever-developing/enriching repertoire. The purpose of this study is to determine the status of the utilization of flute-guitar duos in vocational music education institutions, in consideration of the opinions of instructors. The research is based on a scanning model aimed at status determination, and “questionnaire-documentary scanning” techniques are used with a descriptive approach. The sample group of the research consists of faculty members teaching orchestra and/or chamber music classes in higher education institutions that offer professional music education in various cities, who were able to be reached and provided as participants. In the research’s conclusion, it is understood that the instructors partially prefer the flute-guitar duo and find it advantageous in many aspects. The scarcity of source books and hence repertoire is among the most mentioned problems. Inadequateness of performer students, differences in student levels, and the scantness of accordant flute-guitar repertoire with the curriculum and student levels are some of the other determined problems. UNIVERSITIES & colleges , *STUDENT mobility , *HIGH school graduates , *GRADUATE education , *SCHOOL year , *INDIGENOUS children - Abstract
The main aim of this study was to analyze the extent to which location influenced preferences in higher education institution choices. For this purpose, in the 2021–2022 academic year, users who have newly registered in a settlement at the associate and undergraduate level were matched and coordinated at the department level with the universities they registered with and the secondary education institutions they graduated from. The values used in the study were transmitted from the YÖK ATLAS database by the data scraping (Web Scraping) method. Children who registered during open and remote operation were not included in the study, considering that they were minimally affected by the student's mobility. The result is a situation where approximately 621,000 students settled in a higher education institution in the 2021–2022 academic year, and 45% of them preferred a higher education institution that runs 100 km from the high school they graduated from. On a provincial basis, 36% of the students preferred a higher education institution in their province. It has been revealed that there is a strong relationship between the spatial proximity and mutual student mobility among the cities where student mobility occurs. However, it has been determined that the relevant data set does not fully comply with the gravity theory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
