1. Evaluation of Serum Zinc Levels in Cattle with Trichophytosis According to Extensiveness of Trichophytosis

Abstract

This study aimed to reveal relationship between the extensiveness of trichophytosis on the body and serum zinc levels in cattle. This study was carried out on 92 cattle with trichophytosis and 50 healthy ones. Serum zinc levels of healthy cattle were evaluated as control. The cattle with trichophytosis separated into 5 groups according to diffusiveness of the diseases. Experimental groups of this study were designed as follows; Group 1: up to 1 cm, Group 2: 1-5 cm, Group 3: 5-10 cm, Group 4: 10-20 cm and Group 5: widespread on the body. Serum zinc levels measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometer equipped with flame system. In general, the mean level of Zn in trichophytosis groups (0.613±0.013 mg Zn/L) was statistically lower than healthy ones (0.900±0.017 mg Zn/L). A negative correlation was determined between the diffusiveness degree of trichophytosis and serum zinc levels (r = -0.772). Serum Zinc levels were statistically decreased from the control group to group 3. However, a stable course was observed from 3 to 5. Therefore, the value of group 3 (0.6 mgZn/L) was determined as a critical value for the cattle with trichophytosis. According to regression analysis results, it was observed that the extensiveness of the trichophytosis lesions affected the levels of serum Zn levels significantly (r2=59.6%). Consequently, serum zinc levels of cattle decreased in an inversely proportional manner to the diffusiveness degree of trichophytosis and stabilization was observed at the level of 0.6 mg Zn/L.

Abstract

The aim of this studyis to identify some biochemical parameters levels in Anatolian buffaloes withtrichophytosis. The material occur forty Anatolian buffaloes divided in twogroups, fifteen Anatolian buffaloes placed in control group and remaining twenty fiveAnatolian buffaloes served as experimental group, diagnosed as trichophytosisfollowing clinical and microbiological examination. Abstract

Trichophytosis which caused by Trichophyton spp. is an enzootic skin disease. In this study, effects of trichophytosis on serum adenozine deaminase (ADA) and nitric oxide (NO) activities were investigated. Thirty cattles with thrichophytosis and 10 healthy cattles were used in the study. Average ages of the cattle were 1-3 and average body weight was 250 kg. Blood samples were taken from vena jugularis of the animals. Serum ADA activities and NO levels were detected with spectrophotomethric method. Serum ADA activities were detected 12.70 U/L and 24.49 U/L in research and control groups respectively. Statistically difference was important between two groups (p0.05). Consequently, we thought that, serum ADA levels might be increased by cell mediated immune system which was stimulated by T. verricosum. Although, NO levels were monitored slightly increase in research group. We thought that, this increase related to newly iNOS release and NO producing in macrophages, Bu çalışmada trikofitozisli ineklerde serum adenozin deaminaz (ADA) aktivitesinin ve nitrik oksit (NO) seviyesinin nasıl etkilendiği araştırıldı. Çalışmada 1-3 yaşlarında, ortalama 250 kg canlı ağırlığında trikofitozisli olduğu belirlenen 30 adet yerli ırk sığır ile 10 adet sağlıklı yerli ırk sığır kullanıldı. Hayvanların vena jugularisinden kan alınarak serumları çıkartıldı. Serumda ADA aktivitesi ve NO düzeyi spekrofotometrik olarak ölçüldü. Serum ADA aktivitesi kontrol ve trikofitozisli sığırlarda sırasıyla 12.70 U/L ve 24.49 U/L olarak tespit edildi. ADA aktivitesinde gruplar arasındaki farklılık istatistiksel olarak önemli bulundu (p0.05). Sonuç olarak serum ADA aktivitesinin T.verricosum tarafından hücre aracılı immun sistemin uyarılması sayesinde artmış olabileceği düşünüldü. Buna karşın araştırma grubunda kontrole göre serum NO seviyesinin ortalamasında relatif olmayan bir artış gözlendi. Bu artış, makrofajlardaki iNOS salınımının ve NO üretiminin yeni başlamış olabileceğini düşündürdü
