Abstract: We report results of $Λ$ hyperon production in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering off deuterium, carbon, iron, and lead targets obtained with the CLAS detector and the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility 5.014~GeV electron beam. These results represent the first measurements of the $Λ$ multiplicity ratio and transverse momentum broadening as a function of the energy fraction~($z$) in the current and target fragmentation regions. The multiplicity ratio exhibits a strong suppression at high~$z$~and~an enhancement at~low~$z$. The measured transverse momentum broadening is an order of magnitude greater than that seen for light mesons. This indicates that the propagating entity interacts very strongly with the nuclear medium, which suggests that propagation of diquark configurations in the nuclear medium takes place at least part of the time, even at high~$z$. The trends of these results are qualitatively described by the Giessen Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck transport model, particularly for the multiplicity ratios. Abstract: Strange matter is believed to exist in the cores of neutron stars based on simple kinematics. If this is true, then hyperon-nucleon interactions will play a significant part in the neutron star equation of state. Yet, compared to other elastic scattering processes, there is very little data on \ud Λ\ud −\ud N\ud scattering. This experiment utilized the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) detector to study the \ud Λ\ud p\ud →\ud Λ\ud p\ud elastic scattering cross section in the incident \ud Λ\ud momentum range \ud 0.9\ud –\ud 2.0\ud \ud \ud GeV\ud /\ud c\ud . These are the first data on this reaction since the 1970s. The new cross sections have significantly better accuracy and precision than the existing world data, and the techniques developed here can also be used in future experiments.

Abstract: We present new data on the Bjorken sum $\overline \Gamma_1^{p-n}(Q^2)$ at 4-momentum transfer $ 0.021 \leq Q^2 \leq 0.496$ GeV$^2$. The data were obtained in two experiments performed at Jefferson Lab: EG4 on polarized protons and deuterons, and E97110 on polarized $^3$He from which neutron data were extracted. The data cover the domain where chiral effective field theory ($\chi$EFT), the leading effective theory of the Strong Force at large distances, is expected to be applicable. We find that our data and the predictions from $\chi$EFT are only in marginal agreement. This is somewhat surprising as the contribution from the $\Delta(1232)$ resonance is suppressed in this observable, which should make it more reliably predicted by $\chi$EFT than quantities in which the $\Delta$ contribution is important. Abstract: We have measured beam-spin asymmetries to extract the $\sin��$ moment $A_{LU}^{\sin��}$ from the hard exclusive $\vec{e} p \to e^\prime n ��^+$ reaction above the resonance region, for the first time with nearly full coverage from forward to backward angles in the center-of-mass. The $A_{LU}^{\sin��}$ moment has been measured up to 6.6 GeV$^{2}$ in $-t$, covering the kinematic regimes of Generalized Parton Distributions (GPD) and baryon-to-meson Transition Distribution Amplitudes (TDA) at the same time. The experimental results in very forward kinematics demonstrate the sensitivity to chiral-odd and chiral-even GPDs. In very backward kinematics where the TDA framework is applicable, we found $A_{LU}^{\sin��}$ to be negative, while a sign change was observed near 90$^\circ$ in the center-of-mass. The unique results presented in this paper will provide critical constraints to establish reaction mechanisms that can help to further develop the GPD and TDA frameworks.

Abstract: First measurements of double-polarization observables in $��$ photoproduction off the proton are presented using transverse target polarization and data from the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) FROST experiment at Jefferson Lab. The beam-target asymmetry $F$ has been measured using circularly polarized, tagged photons in the energy range 1200 - 2700 MeV, and the beam-target asymmetries $H$ and $P$ have been measured using linearly polarized tagged photons in the energy range 1200 - 2000 MeV. These measurements significantly increase the database on polarization observables. The results are included in two partial-wave analyses and reveal significant contributions from several nucleon ($N^\ast$) resonances. In particular, contributions from new $N^\ast$ resonances listed in the Review of Particle Properties are observed, which aid in reaching the goal of mapping out the nucleon resonance spectrum., Two authors added, figures updated

Abstract: We report the first measurements of the $E$ beam-target helicity asymmetry for the $\vec�� \vec{n} \to K^{0}��$, and $K^{0}��^{0}$ channels in the energy range 1.70$\leq W\leq$2.34 GeV. The CLAS system at Jefferson Lab uses a circularly polarized photon beam and a target consisting of longitudinally polarized solid molecular hydrogen deuteride with low background contamination for the measurements. The multivariate analysis method boosted decision trees was used to isolate the reactions of interest. Comparisons with predictions from the KaonMAID, SAID, and Bonn-Gatchina models are presented. Abstract: We report the first beam-target double-polarization asymmetries in the $��+ n(p) \rightarrow ��^- + p(p)$ reaction spanning the nucleon resonance region from invariant mass $W$= $1500$ to $2300$ MeV. Circularly polarized photons and longitudinally polarized deuterons in $H\!D$ have been used with the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. The exclusive final state has been extracted using three very different analyses that show excellent agreement, and these have been used to deduce the {\it{E}} polarization observable for an effective neutron target. These results have been incorporated into new partial wave analyses, and have led to significant revisions for several $��nN^*$ resonance photo-couplings., 6 pages, 5 figures; Physical Review Letters - in press

Abstract: The quasi-free $��d\to��^{-}p(p)$ differential cross section has been measured with CLAS at photon beam energies $E_��$ from 0.445 GeV to 2.510 GeV (corresponding to $W$ from 1.311 GeV to 2.366 GeV) for pion center-of-mass angles $\cos��_��^{c.m.}$ from -0.72 to 0.92. A correction for final state interactions has been applied to this data to extract the $��n\to��^-p$ differential cross sections. These cross sections are quoted in 8428 $(E_��,\cos��_��^{c.m.})$ bins, a factor of nearly three increase in the world statistics for this channel in this kinematic range. These new data help to constrain coupled-channel analysis fits used to disentangle the spectrum of $N^*$ resonances and extract their properties. Selected photon decay amplitudes $N^* \to ��n$ at the resonance poles are determined for the first time and are reported here.

Abstract: Photon beam asymmetry $��$ measurements for $��$ photoproduction in the reaction $\vec�� p \to ��p$ are reported for photon energies from 1.152 to 1.876 GeV. Data were taken using a linearly-polarized tagged photon beam, a cryogenic hydrogen target, and the CLAS spectrometer in Hall B at Jefferson Lab. The measurements obtained markedly increase the size of the database for this observable, extend coverage to higher energies, and resolve discrepancies in previously published data. Comparisons of these new results with predictions from a chiral-quark-based model and from a dynamical coupled-channels model indicate the importance of interferences between $t$-channel meson exchange and $s$- and $u$-channel contributions, underscoring sensitivity to the nucleon resonances included in those descriptions. Comparisons with the Bonn-Gatchina partial-wave analysis indicate the $��$ data reported here help to fix the magnitudes of the interference terms between the leading amplitudes in that calculation (Pomeron exchange and the resonant portion of the $J^P=3/2^+$ partial wave), as well as the resonant portions of the smaller partial waves with $J^P$= $1/2^-$, $3/2^-$, and $5/2^+$., 10 pages, 3 figures

Abstract: The photoproduction of $��$ mesons off the proton has been studied in the reaction $��p\to p\,��$ using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) and the frozen-spin target (FROST) in Hall B at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. For the first time, the target asymmetry, $T$, has been measured in photoproduction from the decay $��\to��^+��^-��^0$, using a transversely-polarized target with energies ranging from just above the reaction threshold up to 2.8 GeV. Significant non-zero values are observed for these asymmetries, reaching about 30-40% in the third-resonance region. New measurements for the photon-beam asymmetry, $��$, are also presented, which agree well with previous CLAS results and extend the world database up to 2.1 GeV. These data and additional $��$-photoproduction observables from CLAS were included in a partial-wave analysis within the Bonn-Gatchina framework. Abstract: The cross section of the exclusive $��$ electroproduction reaction $ep\to e^\prime p^\prime ��$ was measured at Jefferson Lab with a 5.75-GeV electron beam and the CLAS detector. Differential cross sections $d^4��/dtdQ^2dx_Bd��_��$ and structure functions $��_U = ��_T+��_L, ��_{TT}$ and $��_{LT}$, as functions of $t$ were obtained over a wide range of $Q^2$ and $x_B$. The $��$ structure functions are compared with those previously measured for $��^0$ at the same kinematics. At low $t$, both $��^0$ and $��$ are described reasonably well by generalized parton distributions (GPDs) in which chiral-odd transversity GPDs are dominant. The $��^0$ and $��$ data, when taken together, can facilitate the flavor decomposition of the transversity GPDs., 16 pages, 16 figures

Abstract: Beam-target double spin asymmetries and target single-spin asymmetries in exclusive $��^+$ and $��^-$ electroproduction were obtained from scattering of 1.6 to 5.7 GeV longitudinally polarized electrons from longitudinally polarized protons (for $��^+$) and deuterons (for $��^-$) using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at Jefferson Lab. The kinematic range covered is $1.11.5$ GeV. Very large target-spin asymmetries are observed for $W>1.6$ GeV. When combined with cross section measurements, the present results will provide powerful constraints on nucleon resonance amplitudes at moderate and large values of $Q^2$, for resonances with masses as high as 2.3 GeV., 47 pages, 24 figures. Abstract: We propose to measure the photo-production cross section of $J/��$ near threshold, in search of the recently observed LHCb hidden-charm resonances $P_c$(4380) and $P_c$(4450) consistent with 'pentaquarks'. The observation of these resonances in photo-production will provide strong evidence of the true resonance nature of the LHCb states, distinguishing them from kinematic enhancements. A bremsstrahlung photon beam produced with an 11 GeV electron beam at CEBAF covers the energy range of $J/��$ production from the threshold photo-production energy of 8.2 GeV, to an energy beyond the presumed $P_c$(4450) resonance. The experiment will be carried out in Hall C at Jefferson Lab using a 50��A electron beam incident on a 9% copper radiator. The resulting photon beam passes through a 15 cm liquid hydrogen target, producing $J/��$ mesons through a diffractive process in the $t$-channel, or through a resonant process in the $s$- and $u$-channel. The decay $e^+e^-$ pair of the $J/��$ will be detected in coincidence using the two high-momentum spectrometers of Hall C. The spectrometer settings have been optimized to distinguish the resonant $s$- and $u$-channel production from the diffractive $t$-channel $J/��$ production. The $s$- and $u$-channel production of the charmed 5-quark resonance dominates the $t$-distribution at large $t$. The momentum and angular resolution of the spectrometers is sufficient to observe a clear resonance enhancement in the total cross section and $t$-distribution. We request a total of 11 days of beam time with 9 days to carry the main experiment and 2 days to acquire the needed $t$-channel elastic $J/��$ production data for a calibration measurement. This calibration measurement in itself will greatly enhance our knowledge of $t$-channel elastic $J/��$ production near threshold., This document is an updated version of the original proposal PR12-16-007, which was approved with an 'A' rating and a 'high-impact' label by the Jefferson Lab PAC 44 in July 2016. Abstract: MeV-GeV dark matter (DM) is theoretically well motivated but remarkably unexplored. This proposal presents the MeV-GeV DM discovery potential for a $\sim$1 m$^3$ segmented CsI(Tl) scintillator detector placed downstream of the Hall A beam-dump at Jefferson Lab, receiving up to 10$^{22}$ electrons-on-target (EOT) in 285 days. This experiment (Beam-Dump eXperiment or BDX) would be sensitive to elastic DM-electron and to inelastic DM scattering at the level of 10 counts per year, reaching the limit of the neutrino irreducible background. The distinct signature of a DM interaction will be an electromagnetic shower of few hundreds of MeV, together with a reduced activity in the surrounding active veto counters. A detailed description of the DM particle $\chi$ production in the dump and subsequent interaction in the detector has been performed by means of Monte Carlo simulations. Different approaches have been used to evaluate the expected backgrounds: the cosmogenic background has been extrapolated from the results obtained with a prototype detector running at INFN-LNS (Italy), while the beam-related background has been evaluated by GEANT4 Monte Carlo simulations. Abstract: We report measurements of target- and double-spin asymmetries for the exclusive channel $\vec e\vec p\to e��^+ (n)$ in the nucleon resonance region at Jefferson Lab using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS). These asymmetries were extracted from data obtained using a longitudinally polarized NH$_3$ target and a longitudinally polarized electron beam with energies 1.1, 1.3, 2.0, 2.3 and 3.0 GeV. The new results are consistent with previous CLAS publications but are extended to a low $Q^2$ range from $0.0065$ to $0.35$ (GeV$/c$)$^2$. The $Q^2$ access was made possible by a custom-built Cherenkov detector that allowed the detection of electrons for scattering angles as low as $6^\circ$. These results are compared with the unitary isobar models JANR and MAID, the partial-wave analysis prediction from SAID and the dynamic model DMT. In many kinematic regions our results, in particular results on the target asymmetry, help to constrain the polarization-dependent components of these models., 20 pages, 15 figures, to appear in Phys. Abstract: The beam-spin asymmetry, $��$, for the reaction $��d\rightarrow pn$ has been measured using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab) for six photon-energy bins between 1.1 and 2.3 GeV, and proton angles in the center-of-mass frame, $��_{c.m.}$, between $25^\circ$ and $160^\circ$. These are the first measurements of beam-spin asymmetries at $��_{c.m.}=90^\circ$ for photon-beam energies above 1.6 GeV, and the first measurements for angles other than $��_{c.m.}=90^\circ$. The angular and energy dependence of $��$ is expected to aid in the development of QCD-based models to understand the mechanisms of deuteron photodisintegration in the transition region between hadronic and partonic degrees of freedom, where both effective field theories and perturbative QCD cannot make reliable predictions., 18 pages

Abstract: First results from the longitudinally polarized frozen-spin target (FROST) program are reported. The double-polarization observable E, for the reaction $\vec ��\vec p \to ��^+n$, has been measured using a circularly polarized tagged-photon beam, with energies from 0.35 to 2.37 GeV. The final-state pions were detected with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer in Hall B at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. These polarization data agree fairly well with previous partial-wave analyses at low photon energies. Over much of the covered energy range, however, significant deviations are observed, particularly in the high-energy region where high-L multipoles contribute. Abstract: We present a search for ten baryon-number violating decay modes of $��$ hyperons using the CLAS detector at Jefferson Laboratory. Nine of these decay modes result in a single meson and single lepton in the final state ($��\rightarrow m \ell$) and conserve either the sum or the difference of baryon and lepton number ($B \pm L$). The tenth decay mode ($��\rightarrow \bar{p}��^+$) represents a difference in baryon number of two units and no difference in lepton number. We observe no significant signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions of these reactions in the range $(4-200)\times 10^{-7}$ at the $90\%$ confidence level., 12 pages, 7 figures (color)

Abstract: The target and double spin asymmetries of the exclusive pseudoscalar channel $\vec e\vec p\to ep��^0$ were measured for the first time in the deep-inelastic regime using a longitudinally polarized 5.9 GeV electron beam and a longitudinally polarized proton target at Jefferson Lab with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS). The data were collected over a large kinematic phase space and divided into 110 four-dimensional bins of $Q^2$, $x_B$, $-t$ and $��$. Large values of asymmetry moments clearly indicate a substantial contribution to the polarized structure functions from transverse virtual photon amplitudes. The interpretation of experimental data in terms of generalized parton distributions (GPDs) provides the first insight on the chiral-odd GPDs $\tilde{H}_T$ and $E_T$, and complement previous measurements of unpolarized structure functions sensitive to the GPDs $H_T$ and $\bar E_T$. These data provide necessary constraints for chiral-odd GPD parametrizations and will strongly influence existing theoretical handbag models.

Abstract: Results are presented for the first measurement of the double-polarization helicity asymmetry E for the $��$ photoproduction reaction $��p \rightarrow ��p$. Data were obtained using the FROzen Spin Target (FROST) with the CLAS spectrometer in Hall B at Jefferson Lab, covering a range of center-of-mass energy W from threshold to 2.15 GeV and a large range in center-of-mass polar angle. As an initial application of these data, the results have been incorporated into the J��lich model to examine the case for the existence of a narrow $N^*$ resonance between 1.66 and 1.70 GeV. The addition of these data to the world database results in marked changes in the predictions for the E observable using that model. Further comparison with several theoretical approaches indicates these data will significantly enhance our understanding of nucleon resonances.

Abstract: The atomic nucleus is composed of two different kinds of fermions: protons and neutrons. If the protons and neutrons did not interact, the Pauli exclusion principle would force the majority of fermions (usually neutrons) to have a higher average momentum. Our high-energy electron-scattering measurements using (12)C, (27)Al, (56)Fe, and (208)Pb targets show that even in heavy, neutron-rich nuclei, short-range interactions between the fermions form correlated high-momentum neutron-proton pairs. Thus, in neutron-rich nuclei, protons have a greater probability than neutrons to have momentum greater than the Fermi momentum. This finding has implications ranging from nuclear few-body systems to neutron stars and may also be observable experimentally in two-spin-state, ultracold atomic gas systems.

Abstract: We measured the ratios of electroproduction cross sections from a proton target for three exclusive meson-baryon final states: ΛK(+), pπ(0), and nπ(+), with the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. Using a simple model of quark hadronization, we extract qq creation probabilities for the first time in exclusive two-body production, in which only a single qq pair is created. We observe a sizable suppression of strange quark-antiquark pairs compared to nonstrange pairs, similar to that seen in high-energy production.

Abstract: Exclusive neutral-pion electroproduction ($ep\to e^\prime p^\prime ��^0$) was measured at Jefferson Lab with a 5.75-GeV electron beam and the CLAS detector. Differential cross sections $d^4��/dtdQ^2dx_Bd��_��$ and structure functions $��_T+��_L, ��_{TT}$ and $��_{LT}$ as functions of $t$ were obtained over a wide range of $Q^2$ and $x_B$. The data are compared with Regge and handbag theoretical calculations. Analyses in both frameworks find that a large dominance of transverse processes is necessary to explain the experimental results. For the Regge analysis it is found that the inclusion of vector meson rescattering processes is necessary to bring the magnitude of the calculated and measured structure functions into rough agreement. In the handbag framework, there are two independent calculations, both of which appear to roughly explain the magnitude of the structure functions in terms of transversity generalized parton distributions., 28 pages, 25 figures, Submitted to Phys. Abstract: We have measured the induced polarization of the $��(1116)$ in the reaction $ep\rightarrow e'K^+��$, detecting the scattered $e'$ and $K^+$ in the final state along with the proton from the decay $��\rightarrow p��^-$.The present study used the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS), which allowed for a large kinematic acceptance in invariant energy $W$ ($1.6\leq W \leq 2.7$ GeV) and covered the full range of the kaon production angle at an average momentum transfer $Q^2=1.90$ GeV$^2$.In this experiment a 5.50 GeV electron beam was incident upon an unpolarized liquid-hydrogen target. We have mapped out the $W$ and kaon production angle dependencies of the induced polarization and found striking differences from photoproduction data over most of the kinematic range studied. However, we also found that the induced polarization is essentially $Q^2$ independent in our kinematic domain, suggesting that somewhere below the $Q^2$ covered here there must be a strong $Q^2$ dependence. Along with previously published photo- and electroproduction cross sections and polarization observables, these data are needed for the development of models, such as effective field theories, and as input to coupled-channel analyses that can provide evidence of previously unobserved $s$-channel resonances., 13 figures

Abstract: Experimental results on the $��^+(1189)$ hyperon transverse polarization in photoproduction on a hydrogen target using the CLAS detector at Jefferson laboratory are presented. The $��^+(1189)$ was reconstructed in the exclusive reaction $��+p\rightarrow K^{0}_{S} + ��^+(1189)$ via the $��^{+} \to p ��^{0}$ decay mode. The $K^{0}_S$ was reconstructed in the invariant mass of two oppositely charged pions with the $��^0$ identified in the missing mass of the detected $p��^+��^-$ final state. Experimental data were collected in the photon energy range $E_��$ = 1.0-3.5 GeV ($\sqrt{s}$ range 1.66-2.73 GeV). We observe a large negative polarization of up to 95%. As the mechanism of transverse polarization of hyperons produced in unpolarized photoproduction experiments is still not well understood, these results will help to distinguish between different theoretical models on hyperon production and provide valuable information for the searches of missing baryon resonances., pages 11

Abstract: Exclusive π(0) electroproduction at a beam energy of 5.75 GeV has been measured with the Jefferson Lab CLAS spectrometer. Differential cross sections were measured at more than 1800 kinematic values in Q(2), x(B), t, and ϕ(π), in the Q(2) range from 1.0 to 4.6 GeV(2), -t up to 2 GeV(2), and x(B) from 0.1 to 0.58. Structure functions σ(T)+ϵσ(L), σ(TT), and σ(LT) were extracted as functions of t for each of 17 combinations of Q(2) and x(B). The data were compared directly with two handbag-based calculations including both longitudinal and transversity generalized parton distributions (GPDs). Inclusion of only longitudinal GPDs very strongly underestimates σ(T)+ϵσ(L) and fails to account for σ(TT) and σ(LT), while inclusion of transversity GPDs brings the calculations into substantially better agreement with the data. There is very strong sensitivity to the relative contributions of nucleon helicity-flip and helicity nonflip processes. The results confirm that exclusive π(0) electroproduction offers direct experimental access to the transversity GPDs.

Abstract: We have measured the nuclear transparency of the incoherent diffractive $A(e,e'��^0)$ process in $^{12}$C and $^{56}$Fe targets relative to $^2$H using a 5 GeV electron beam. The nuclear transparency, the ratio of the produced $��^0$'s on a nucleus relative to deuterium, which is sensitive to $��A$ interaction, was studied as function of the coherence length ($l_c$), a lifetime of the hadronic fluctuation of the virtual photon, and the four-momentum transfer squared ($Q^2$). While the transparency for both $^{12}$C and $^{56}$Fe showed no $l_c$ dependence, a significant $Q^2$ dependence was measured, which is consistent with calculations that included the color transparency effects., 6 pages and 4 figures

Abstract: Exclusive $��^0$ electroproduction at a beam energy of 5.75 GeV has been measured with the Jefferson Lab CLAS spectrometer. Differential cross sections were measured at more than 1800 kinematic values in $Q^2$, $x_B$, $t$, and $��_��$, in the $Q^2$ range from 1.0 to 4.6 GeV$^2$,\ $-t$ up to 2 GeV$^2$, and $x_B$ from 0.1 to 0.58. Structure functions $��_T +��_L, ��_{TT}$ and $��_{LT}$ were extracted as functions of $t$ for each of 17 combinations of $Q^2$ and $x_B$. The data were compared directly with two handbag-based calculations including both longitudinal and transversity GPDs. Inclusion of only longitudinal GPDs very strongly underestimates $��_T +��_L$ and fails to account for $��_{TT}$ and $��_{LT}$, while inclusion of transversity GPDs brings the calculations into substantially better agreement with the data. There is very strong sensitivity to the relative contributions of nucleon helicity flip and helicity non-flip processes. Abstract: We have measured the 3He(e,e' pp)n reaction at an incident energy of 4.7 GeV over a wide kinematic range. We identified spectator correlated pp and pn nucleon pairs by using kinematic cuts and measured their relative and total momentum distributions. This is the first measurement of the ratio of pp to pn pairs as a function of pair total momentum p(tot). For pair relative momenta between 0.3 and 0.5 GeV/c, the ratio is very small at low p(tot) and rises to approximately 0.5 at large p(tot). This shows the dominance of tensor over central correlations at this relative momentum.

Abstract: We report on the results of the first measurement of exclusive f_{0}(980) meson photoproduction on protons for E_{gamma}=3.0-3.8 GeV and -t=0.4-1.0 GeV2. Data were collected with the CLAS detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The resonance was detected via its decay in the pi;{+}pi;{-} channel by performing a partial wave analysis of the reaction gammap--ppi;{+}pi;{-}. Clear evidence of the f_{0}(980) meson was found in the interference between P and S waves at M_{pi;{+}pi;{-}} approximately 1 GeV. The S-wave differential cross section integrated in the mass range of the f_{0}(980) was found to be a factor of about 50 smaller than the cross section for the rho meson. This is the first time the f_{0}(980) meson has been measured in a photoproduction experiment.

Abstract: The neutron elastic magnetic form factor was extracted from quasielastic electron scattering on deuterium over the range Q(2)=1.0-4.8 GeV2 with the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. High precision was achieved with a ratio technique and a simultaneous in situ calibration of the neutron detection efficiency. Neutrons were detected with electromagnetic calorimeters and time-of-flight scintillators at two beam energies. The dipole parametrization gives a good description of the data.

Abstract: We propose to measure the photo-production cross section of $J/{\psi}$ near threshold, in search of the recently observed LHCb hidden-charm resonances $P_c$(4380) and $P_c$(4450) consistent with 'pentaquarks'. The observation of these resonances in photo-production will provide strong evidence of the true resonance nature of the LHCb states, distinguishing them from kinematic enhancements. A bremsstrahlung photon beam produced with an 11 GeV electron beam at CEBAF covers the energy range of $J/{\psi}$ production from the threshold photo-production energy of 8.2 GeV, to an energy beyond the presumed $P_c$(4450) resonance. The experiment will be carried out in Hall C at Jefferson Lab using a 50{\mu}A electron beam incident on a 9% copper radiator. The resulting photon beam passes through a 15 cm liquid hydrogen target, producing $J/{\psi}$ mesons through a diffractive process in the $t$-channel, or through a resonant process in the $s$- and $u$-channel. The decay $e^+e^-$ pair of the $J/{\psi}$ will be detected in coincidence using the two high-momentum spectrometers of Hall C. The spectrometer settings have been optimized to distinguish the resonant $s$- and $u$-channel production from the diffractive $t$-channel $J/{\psi}$ production. The $s$- and $u$-channel production of the charmed 5-quark resonance dominates the $t$-distribution at large $t$. The momentum and angular resolution of the spectrometers is sufficient to observe a clear resonance enhancement in the total cross section and $t$-distribution. We request a total of 11 days of beam time with 9 days to carry the main experiment and 2 days to acquire the needed $t$-channel elastic $J/{\psi}$ production data for a calibration measurement. This calibration measurement in itself will greatly enhance our knowledge of $t$-channel elastic $J/{\psi}$ production near threshold., Comment: This document is an updated version of the original proposal PR12-16-007, which was approved with an 'A' rating and a 'high-impact' label by the Jefferson Lab PAC 44 in July 2016. Abstract: This document complements and completes what was submitted last year to PAC45 as an update to the proposal PR12-16-001 "Dark matter search in a Beam-Dump eXperiment (BDX)" at Jefferson Lab submitted to JLab-PAC44 in 2016. Following the suggestions contained in the PAC45 report, in coordination with the lab, we ran a test to assess the beam-related backgrounds and validate the simulation framework used to design the BDX experiment. Using a common Monte Carlo framework for the test and the proposed experiment, we optimized the selection cuts to maximize the reach considering simultaneously the signal, cosmic-ray background (assessed in Catania test with BDX-Proto) and beam-related backgrounds (irreducible NC and CC neutrino interactions as determined by simulation). Our results confirmed what was presented in the original proposal: with 285 days of a parasitic run at 65 $\mu$A (corresponding to $10^{22}$ EOT) the BDX experiment will lower the exclusion limits in the case of no signal by one to two orders of magnitude in the parameter space of dark-matter coupling versus mass.
