Intermittent energy restricted (IER) diets have become popular as a body weight management approach. In this pilot study, we investigated if an IER diet would reduce systemic inflammation and if maintaining an elevated protein level while on an IER diet would enhance satiety. Six healthy women, aged 33–55 years with a BMI of 27–33 kg/m2, were randomized to first adhere to either a low- or high-protein IER diet using whole foods for three weeks. They then returned to their regular diets for a week, after which they adhered to the second diet for three weeks. Each test diet consisted of three low-energy intake days followed by four isocaloric energy intake days. The diets differed only in protein content. High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), glucose, satiety, body weight, and waist circumference were measured at the beginning and end of each dietary intervention. Most participants showed reductions in hs-CRP levels from baseline on both IER diets but reported greater satiety when adhering to the higher protein IER diet. Overall, the IER diets reduced body weight and appeared to decrease inflammation in these overweight women, and the higher protein version enhanced satiety, which may lead to greater long-term dietary adherence.

Background: Neural mobilisation technique is effective in spinal nerve rehabilitation. However, no study has reported the effect of facial nerve mobilisation in acute Bell’s palsy. Objectives: The objective of our study was to evaluate the effect of facial neural mobilisation over conventional therapy in improving facial symmetry in patients with acute Bell’s palsy. Methods: A randomised controlled trial was conducted in the physical therapy department for 62 patients with acute Bell’s palsy. The intervention included 10 days of drug therapy including 3 weeks of conventional therapy to the experimental and the control group. However, the experimental group received additional nerve mobilisation technique aimed at mobilising the facial nerve at the origin of external auditory meatus. All participants were assessed at baseline and after three weeks using the Sunnybrook facial grading system (SBS) and Kinovea Movement Analysis Software (KMAS). Results: For primary outcome, analysis of covariance with baseline data as covariate showed a significant difference between groups for the post-test mean scores of SBS after 3 weeks (between-group difference, 9.2 [95% CI, 5.1–13.3], [Formula: see text]. Importantly, the effect size calculated by partial [Formula: see text] for neural mobilisation was 0.258 (small effect size). For secondary outcomes, independent sample [Formula: see text]-test showed a significant difference between groups for the scores on KMAS after 3 weeks for zygomatic muscle (between-group difference, [Formula: see text] [95% CI, [Formula: see text] to [Formula: see text]], [Formula: see text]), frontalis muscle [Formula: see text] [95% CI, [Formula: see text] to [Formula: see text]], [Formula: see text], and orbicularis oris muscle [Formula: see text] [95% CI, [Formula: see text] to [Formula: see text]], [Formula: see text]. Conclusion: Facial neural mobilisation is likely to be an effective adjunctive intervention in addition to conventional therapy in improving facial symmetry in acute Bell’s palsy.

The use of normative data has become well-accepted and a common strategy to interpret individual's health outcome scores, which can help in making decisions. The objectives of this study were to obtain population normative data for the domains and component summaries of the 36-item SF-36® Health Survey (SF-36), and to evaluate its reliability and construct validity.This study was conducted using population-based data from the Welsh Health Survey (WHS; 2011-2015). This study used version 2 of the SF-36 (SF-36v2® Health Survey). The descriptive statistics and normative data for the eight domains and two summaries, physical component summary (PCS) and mental component summary (MCS), were calculated. Reliability assessment used internal consistency methods and construct validity assessment used known group comparisons and item-scale correlations.We performed a secondary analyses of data from the Welsh Health Survey (WHS).This study included 74,578 participants aged 16 years or older (53.6% were women). Participants aged 16-24 years scored higher on SF-36 scale than older groups on all domains. The SF-36 profiles by age group demonstrated lower scores for older age groups, with the most pronounced differences shown on the physical-related scales. Across the age groups, men had higher PCS and MCS scores than women. All SF-36 domains and PCS and MCS achieved a good to excellent internal consistency reliability exceeding 0.7. The scales demonstrated construct validity by showing associations with a range of factors known to be related to health.This study provides SF-36 normative data for Wales based on a representative data and confirms the construct validity and reliability of the SF-36.

Background: Venipuncture is a common procedure in the emergency department, and in some patients, the procedure may cause pain, anxiety, and fear. There are different studies in the literature looking for ways to reduce the pain, either pharmacologically or non-pharmacologically. Most of the studies were done in pediatrics but a few were in adult patients. We conducted this study to determine whether an ice pack application reduces venipuncture pain among emergency department adult patients compared to the conventional way. Methods: We conducted this randomized controlled clinical trial on adult patients in the Security Forces Hospital, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 1 March 2021 to 30 June 2021. Computer randomization was done to randomize subjects to either control or intervention. The 22-gauge needle catheter was inserted in the antecubital fossa in all participants. Results: We included 281 patients aged 18–60 years, who were randomized to the control or intervention group. There were 140 patients in the control group and 141 in the intervention group. The mean average pain score in the control group was 2.19 and 1.66 in the intervention group, with a statistically significant difference (p-value: 0.016). Conclusion: The ice pack application reduces venipuncture pain in adult emergency department patients and was associated with a better first attempt success rate.

Nanoscience has developed various greener approaches as an alternate method for the synthesis of nanoparticles and nanocomposites. The present study discusses the efficacy of berries extract for the synthesis of ZnO nanocomposites. Characterization of synthesized nanocomposite were done by SEM, UV/VIS spectrophotometry, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and XRD techniques. The crystalline nature of the synthesized nanoparticles was verified by XRD pattern in the range of 10-80 nm. The UV absorption peak of Elaeagnus umbellata (ZnO-EU) nanocomposite at 340 nm, Rubus idaeus (ZnO-Ri) nanocomposite at 360 nm, and Rubus fruticosus (ZnO-Rf) nanocomposite at 360 nm was observed. The nanocomposites were analyzed for their antimicrobial activity and found to be effective against three phytopathogens. The antimicrobial activity of ZnO nanocomposites showed good results against Escherichia coli (341), Staphylococcus aureus (345B), and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (5994 NLF). This study presents a simple and inexpensive approach for synthesizing zinc oxide nanocomposites with effective antibacterial activity.

Background: The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) 11+ Kids is an exercise-based injury prevention program developed by an international group of experts to prevent injuries among child soccer players. Hypothesis: It was hypothesized that the FIFA 11+ Kids program would be more effective than performing a typical warm-up regimen in reducing overall injuries among soccer players aged 7 to 13 years. Study Design: A clustered randomized controlled trial. Level of Evidence: Level 1. Methods: A total of 94 boys’ soccer teams, including 780 players, were randomly allocated into an experimental or control group. Complete datasets were collected from 45 teams (377 players) and 43 teams (363 players) in the experimental and control groups, respectively. The experimental group underwent the FIFA 11+ Kids program as a warm-up during training sessions and matches at least twice a week, and the control group continued performing their usual warm-ups. Participants were prospectively followed during 1 season (6 months). The primary outcomes included the incidence of overall and recurrent injuries and their mechanism and severity. The secondary outcome was the rate of compliance with the intervention program. Results: A total of 43 injuries were reported in the experimental group in 50,120 hours of exposure (0.85 injuries/1000 exposure hours). A total of 86 injuries were reported in the control group in 42,616 hours of exposure (2.01 injuries/1000 exposure hours). The injury risk ratio was 0.43 (0.29-0.61), suggesting that the experimental group experienced 57% fewer injuries than those in the control group. Conclusion: The FIFA 11+ Kids program reduced overall injury rates in children playing soccer more than the usual warm-ups. Clinical Relevance: The results of this study provide evidence for children’s coaches to consider including the FIFA 11+ Kids program in their warm-up regimen. Such a program may prevent injury risk and decrease absenteeism and injury-related financial burdens.

Objective The objective of this study was to compare types of veneer preparations and their combination with three materials. Materials and Methods Two finite element models were specially prepared used representing window and wrap around preparation for veneers. The “central incisor” tooth geometry was acquired using a laser scanner, and then its surface was adjusted to form a solid model prior to the removal of each preparation separately. Three materials (Lava Ultimate, IPS e-max, and Celtra) were tested in combination with the preparation type. Bone geometry was simplified as two coaxial cylinders in all models. Each model was subjected to two loading conditions of occlusion (edge-to-edge bite and normal bite). Statistical Analysis and Results It was observed that cortical, cancellous bone, and periodontal ligament are insensitive to preparation or materials. Their stresses and deformation were within physiological limits. Significant changes appeared on the central incisor tooth structure, cement layer, and veneer layer stresses and deformations under loading cases. Conclusions Edge-to-edge bite stresses are severe with window-type preparation, and normal bite did not show any critical values on tooth structure, cement layer, or veneer layer. Veneer layer finish line and its contact with the cement layer and tooth structure play a role in the loading transfer mechanism. Preparation type alters the values of stresses on tooth structure, cement, and veneer layers. With window preparation, extreme stresses appear at finish line, while stresses appear under the loading site with wrap around preparation. Veneer and cement layers withstand the load energy with wrap around preparation and reduce tooth structure stresses. Thus, the lifetime of veneer and cement layers might be longer with window preparation.

The stability constants of 1,2-bis(2,5-dimethoxybenzylidene) hydrazine (DMBH) were determined using the modified Job’s method with the addition of the UV-Vis approach using salts of copper (II) (chloride and acetate) and salts of cobalt (II) (chloride and nitrate). Copper (II) chloride with a ligand at 1L:2M (stoichiometric ratio) was discovered to have a higher stability constant log value (6.995) than other metal salts. The stability constant log value (5.811) for cobalt (II) nitrate at 1L:2M (stoichiometric ratio) was found to be less stable than the other stability constants evaluated. Antimicrobial properties of the ligand were tested against Entamoeba coli, Candida albicans, and Staphylococcus aureus. The ligand was found to be effective against these strains, with positive results.

To evaluate the clinical and audiological outcomes of percutaneous bone conduction device placement by minimally invasive Ponto surgery (MIPS).This was a retrospective descriptive study of patients who underwent MIPS from March-November 2019 at King Abdullah Ear Specialist Center, Collage of Medicine, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. We reviewed all the clinical data of patients, including preoperative data, postoperative surgical results, and audiological performance (aided and unaided pure tone audiometry and aided and unaided speech tests).A total of 9 patients with 10 implants were enrolled in this study. One patient underwent revision surgery because of infection and loss of the abutment. We followed the patients from 1-2 years, with a mean of 16.8 months. A significant difference was found between the unaided air conduction pure tone average, with a mean of 72.6±28.4 decibel (dB), and the postoperative aided threshold, with a mean of 20.8±12.2 dB/hectoliter (minimally invasive Ponto surgery is a suitable minimally invasive surgical method for bone-anchored implant placement. This technique has an advantage in terms of skin sensitivity, cosmetic outcomes, and operative duration.

Background Tobacco use remains a leading cause of premature death. To combat tobacco use, the Ministry of Health (MOH) improved access to smoking cessation clinics (SCCs) by developing fixed SCCs and mobile SCCs, which move based on demand across locations. The goal of this study was to investigate awareness and utilization of SCCs among tobacco users in Saudi Arabia and the factors that influence their awareness and utilization. Method This cross-sectional study used the 2019 Global Adult Tobacco Survey. Three outcome variables were employed, including tobacco users’ awareness of fixed SCCs, mobile SCCs, and utilization of fixed SCCs. Several independent variables were examined, including sociodemographic characteristics and tobacco use. Multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed. Results 1,667 tobacco users were included in this study. There were 60%, 26%, and 9% of tobacco users who were aware of fixed SCCs, aware of mobile SCCs, and visited fixed SCCs, respectively. The likelihood of being aware of SCCs increased among users residing in urban areas (fixed SCCs: OR = 1.88; 95% CI = 1.31–2.68; mobile SCCs: OR = 2.09; CI = 1.37–3.17) while it decreased among those reported self-employed (fixed SCCs: OR = 0.31; CI = 0.17–0.56; mobile SCCs: OR = 0.42; CI = 0.20–0.89). The likelihood of visiting fixed SCCs increased among educated tobacco users aged 25–34 (OR = 5.61; CI = 1.73–18.21) and 35–44 (OR = 4.22; CI = 1.07–16.64) while the odds of visiting SCCs decreased among those who were working in the private sector (OR = 0.26; CI = 0.09–0.73). Conclusion The decision to quit smoking must be supported by an effective healthcare system that provides accessible and affordable smoking cessation services. Knowing the factors that influence the awareness and utilization of SCCs would help policymakers dedicate efforts targeting those who desire to quit smoking yet face limitations in using SCCs.

The absolute shortage of compatible liver donors and the growing number of potential recipients have led scientists to explore alternative approaches to providing tissue/ organ substitutes from bioengineered sources. Bioartificial regeneration of a fully functional tissue/organ replacement is highly dependent on the right combination of engineering tools, biological principles, and materiobiology horizons. Over the past two decades, remarkable achievements have been made in hepatic tissue engineering by converging various advanced interdisciplinary research approaches. Three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting has arisen as a promising state-of-the-art tool with strong potential to fabricate volumetric liver tissue/organ equivalents using viscosity- and degradation-controlled printable bioinks composed of hydrous microenvironments, and formulations containing living cells and associated supplements. Source of origin, biophysiochemical, or thermomechanical properties and crosslinking reaction kinetics are prerequisites for ideal bioink formulation and realizing the bioprinting process. In this review, we delve into the forecast of the potential future utility of bioprinting technology and the promise of tissue/organ-specific decellularized biomaterials as bioink substrates. Afterward, we outline various methods of decellularization, and the most relevant studies applying decellularized bioinks toward the bioengineering of in vitro liver models. Finally, the challenges and future prospects of decellularized material-based bioprinting in the direction of clinical regenerative medicine are presented to motivate further developments.

This review was aimed to discuss the roles of nurses as well as pharmacist in Antibiotic stewardship worldwide, literature reviews for all relevant articles in this topic published in English language up to the middle of 2022. The desire of nurses to become active partners in antibiotic stewardship was viewed as an extension of their job as patient advocates. Unmet knowledge requirements were viewed as the greatest barrier to nurses' ability to collaborate in antimicrobial stewardship activities. Pharmacists are heavily involved in AMS programs and perceive their duty as regulating proper prescribing practices and controlling antimicrobial agents, which includes pharmaceutical review, restriction policy, prospective audit and feedback, and monitoring antibiotic usage and consumption.

The purpose of this study was to assess the parameters of doxorubicin (DOX) loaded lipid polymer hybrid nanoparticles (LPHNs) formulation development, and then the bioavailability of DOX were determined in the rabbit model, in order to evaluate the intrinsic outcome of dosage form improvement after the oral administration. LPHNs were prepared by combine approach, using both magnetic stirring and probe sonication followed by its characterization in terms of size-distribution (Zeta Size), entrapment efficiency (EE), loading capacity, and the kinetics of DOX. LPHNPs were further characterized by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), powder X-Ray diffractometry (P-XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), in vitro and in vivo studies. The molecular modeling was determined through the density functional theory (DFT) simulations and interactions. DOX loaded and unloaded LPHNs were administered orally to the rabbits for bioavailability and pharmacokinetic parameters determinations. The plasma concentration of DOX was determined through high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The average size of DOX-loaded LPHNs was 121.90 ± 3.0 nm. The drug loading of DOX was 0.391% ± 0.01 of aqueous dispersion, where its encapsulation efficiency was 95.5% ± 1.39. After oral administration of the DOX-LPHNs, the area under the plasma drug concentration-time curve (AUC) improved about 2-folds comparatively (p < 0.05). DFT simulations were used to understand the interactions of polymers with different sites of DOX molecule. The larger negative binding energies (−9.33 to −18.53 kcal/mol) of the different complexes evince that the polymers have stronger affinity to bind with the DOX molecule while the negative values shows that the process is spontaneous, and the synthesis of DOX-LPHNs is energetically favorable. It was concluded that DOX-LPHNs provides a promising new formulation that can enhance the oral bioavailability, which have optimized compatibilities and improve the pharmacokinetic of DOX after oral administration.

The agricultural sector in Saudi Arabia constitutes an essential pillar of the national economy and food security. Crop diseases are a major problem of the agricultural sector and greatly affect the development of the economies in various countries around the world. This study employed three prediction models, namely CNN, SVM, and KNN, with different image processing methods to detect and classify apple plant leaves as healthy or diseased. These models were evaluated using the Kaggle New Plant Diseases database. This study aims to help farmers detect and prevent diseases from spreading. The proposed method provides recommendations for the appropriate solutions for each type of recognized plant disease based on the classification results.

Objective The objective of this study was to evaluate the irrigant penetration using iohexol dye with four irrigation techniques. Methodology Single-rooted premolars were recently extracted and preserved in physiological saline solution. All the samples were standardized to 16 mm. Standard endodontic access was prepared using endoaccess bur (Dentsply Maillefer, Switzerland). The initial patency was established using #10 k file (Mani, Utsunomiya, Tochigi, Japan) to the working length. The cleaning and shaping were performed using the file system ProFit S3 in the following sequence: P0 (orifice enlarger), PF1 (yellow), PF2 (red) #25, and PF3 (blue) #30. The samples were randomly allocated in concealed opaque envelopes into four groups. This was performed by a trained dentist. Fifteen samples were allocated to one group. The groups were divided as follows: Group A—conventional needle (CN), Group B—side-vented needle (SVN), Group C—manual dynamic agitation (MDA), and Group D—EndoActivator (EA). The radiopaque dye irrigant agitation/activation was performed by one operator to prevent operator bias. Following irrigation using the different techniques, digital radiographs were taken, and the measurement was taken from the apical foramen to the point where the dye had penetrated apically for each tooth and the data were entered into an Excel sheet for all the four groups. This study was designed to test the feasibility of using thin-film freezing (TFF) to prepare aerosolizable dry powders of plasmid DNA (pDNA) for pulmonary delivery. Dry powders of pDNA formulated with mannitol/leucine (70/30, w/w) at various of drug loadings, solid contents, and solvents were prepared using TFF, their aerosol properties (i.e., mass median aerodynamic diameter (MMAD) and fine particle fraction (FPF)) determined, and selected powders were used for further characterization. Of the nine dry powders prepared, their MMAD values were about 1-2 mm, with FPF values (delivered) of 40-80%. The aerosol properties of the powders were inversely correlated with the pDNA loading and the solid content in the pDNA solution before thin-film freezing. Powders prepared with Tris-EDTA (TE) buffer or cosolvents (i.e., 1,4 dioxane or t-butanol in water), instead of water, showed slightly reduced aerosol properties. Ultimately, powders prepared with pDNA loading at 5% (w/w), 0.25% of solid content, with or without TE were selected for further characterization due to their overall good aerosol performance. This study introduces a new model of practitioner research to develop an activist teacher professional identity for student-teachers and to enhance their understanding of the theory and practice of continuous professional development (CPD). The participants were ten female student-teachers enrolled in an MA program for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at a university in Saudi Arabia. In this intervention, student-teachers constructed their version of CPD. Then they subsequently reflected on their definition of CPD and the factors contributing to its success. Qualitative research methods were used to collect data, including document analysis and individual structured interviews. The study sought to discover how the enquiry intervention improved student-teachers’ grasp of CPD theory and practice and contributed to the construction of their activist teacher professional identity. The findings may encourage the development and implementation of new forms of practitioner enquiry in MA programs to support the construction of different notions of professional identity found in the literature.

Background: Increasing vaccination rates and reducing the spread of influenza are both greatly improved by raising public knowledge about seasonal influenza. To promote acceptance and create awareness it is necessary to identify any potential barriers to vaccination. This study aimed to assess seasonal influenza awareness, knowledge, vaccination uptake, and barriers. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted as an online survey of 355 medical and non-medical students of Umm Al-Qura University. Results: Out of the total 355 participants, 175(49.3%) were medical students and 180 (50.7) were non-medical students. There was an almost equal distribution of males (178 (50.1%) and females 177 (49.9%) in both groups. Most of the students 208 (58.6%) were aged 21-24 and most of them were single 346 (97.5%). Awareness of seasonal influenza was 172 (98.3%) among medical students and 157 (87.2%) among non-medical students. The mean knowledge score was 7.75 ± 2.9, with a statistical difference between the two groups (P < 0.001). Vaccination uptake was low in both groups 29 (16.6%) vs 46 (25.6%) in medical and non-medical respectively. The most prominent barriers to vaccination were the negative perceptions of the vaccine’s efficacy (53%) followed by accessibility (20%) and vaccine safety concerns (17%). More than one-third (37.7%) of the medical students and (8.9%) of non-medical students had good knowledge levels of seasonal influenza. Surprisingly, 145 (40.8%) had a poor knowledge level of seasonal influenza with a significant difference between the medical and non-medical groups (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Despite the high level of awareness, the knowledge level and vaccine uptake were unsatisfactory. Negative perceptions of the vaccine’s efficacy, and accessibility were the most significant barriers to vaccination. Campaigns and health education programmes should be considered to encourage others to get vaccinated to reduce the burden of seasonal influenza. BACKGROUND: The risk of falling for individuals with stroke is about twice that of healthy older adults. Lack of appropriate initiative to address the fear-related maladaptive behaviour can manifest itself in the form of loss of physical functions resulting in disability and handicap. OBJECTIVE: To examine the effectiveness of the structured balance awareness program (SBAP) in improving the perceived balance confidence, and thereby modifying the fear-related maladaptive behaviour in post-stroke survivors. METHODS: A randomized experimental control design was used on a sample of 97 post-stroke survivors aged between 55 to 75 years. The patients received either the SBAP or health awareness program (HAP) for eight weeks and were compared on Activities-specific Balance Confidence (ABC) Scale, Berg Balance Scale (BBS) and Falls Efficacy Scale International (FESI). RESULTS: A paired t-test demonstrated statistically significant improvement among all the variables in the SBAP group. An independent t-test exhibited a statistically significant improvement on ABC (t = 2.57, p = 0.012*), BBS (t = 3.32, p = 0.001*) and FESI (t = 3.38, p = 0.001*) in the SBAP group. CONCLUSION: The study showed that the SBAP was effective in minimizing the fear-related maladaptive behaviour in post-stroke survivors.

Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism are both prevalent medical conditions that are frequently accompanied with neurologic and neuromuscular dysfunction. Triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) hormones are produced by the thyroid gland and play a crucial role in tissue formation and metabolism. Both of these hormones have a variety of impacts on the brain and neuromuscular system. Specially in children, because brain development can be effected by any disturbances in Thyroidal hormones level. And thus, conditions like Allan-Herndon-Dudley Syndrome & Benign Hereditary Chorea is considered genetic thyroidal diseases both will be discussed in this review. hypothyroidism can have serious consequences for neuropsychiatric function. The pathophysiological processes underlying the neurological symptoms of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism are likely to be multifactorial, in this review we will be looking at multiple neurological as well as psychiatric manifestations related to thyroidal hormones disorders. Methods: We used the phrases "hypothyroidism," "hyperthyroidism," "neurological problems," "neuropathy," "myopathy," "congenital hypothyroidism," and "encephalopathy" in a PubMed search, google scholar and google search engines. Case series, individual case reports, systematic reviews, retrospective analyses, and randomized controlled trials were among the papers examined. Classification of thyroidal dysfunction has been made depending on the thyroidal hormones level. The neurological consequences of congenital hypothyroidism were examined, as well as the clinical aspects of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism-related neuromuscular disorders, as well as other autoimmune illnesses. Hashimoto encephalopathy's evidence and pathophysiological issues were also examined. Conclusion: Thyroid is critical organ due to role of its thyroidal hormones, both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism induce some serious neurological and phycological disorders, some of which is genetic, hypothyroidism can impact the development of child and thus regular thyroidal hormones testing is recommended in children who demonstrates any signs of neurological psychiatric or cognitive disease.

Aims: To determine the relationship between distant learning and neck pain during COVID-19 pandemic especially among medical students, thus we aim to assess prevalence of neck pain for specific Group and time. Study Design: An observational cross-sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: Conducted in Saudi Arabia, between July 2020and October 2021. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional observational descriptive study that started in July 2020. Our target population include all medical students either male or female suffering from neck pain in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the period of distant learning due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Sample size: Total Number of medical students in KSA (26126), Confidence level 95% and margin of error 5%. The sample size 379 was estimated using the Qualtrics calculator. Results: A total of 2071 participants were a part of study. Most of them are female n=1509(72.9%) and least of them are male n=562(27.1%). The minimum age of participant was 18 years old n=61(2.9%), And the maximum age was 30 years old n=10(0.5%). Most of medical students noticed increase of neck pain during the period of pandemic. Most of them had noticed exacerbation of neck pain during COVID-19 pandemic n=1002(72.3%), where n=384(27.7%) had same pain before and during pandemic. Majority of them were completely relying on electronic devices for their education. Conclusion:A high Pervasiveness of neck pain in the medical students during COVID-19 pandemic has been observed. Most of medical students noticed increase of neck pain during the period of pandemic. Majority of them were completely relying on electronic devices for their education.

Encephalitis is a major cause of morbidity, mortality, and permanent neurological disability in both adults and children. The term "encephalitis" literally means inflammation of part or all of the "brain" or the brain parenchyma. Encephalitis affects people of all ages; however, the incidence is higher in the pediatric population. Although both genders are affected, most studies showed slight dominance in men. There are two main types with different causes: primary or infectious encephalitis can develop when a fungus, virus, or bacteria infects the brain and accounts for approximately 70% of confirmed cases of encephalitis, and secondary or post-infectious encephalitis when the immune system is active and reacts. to a previous infection and mistakenly attacks the brain. The clinical manifestations depend on whether the brain parenchyma or the meninges are predominantly involved and cause an encephalitic or meningitis syndrome. Diagnostic tests should include a lumbar puncture, an MRI of the brain, and an EEG for suspected encephalitis. In encephalitis, a broad differential diagnosis, both infectious and non-infectious, should be considered. These alternatives include malignancy, autoimmune or paraneoplastic diseases (eg, anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis), brain abscess, drug-induced tuberculosis or delirium, neurosyphilis, or bacterial, fungal, protozoal, or helminthic encephalitis. Antiviral medications, such as intravenous acyclovir, are often given at the initial diagnosis of encephalitis before the cause is known. Acyclovir is the best treatment for herpes simplex encephalitis. If medication can be started soon after symptoms appear, the chance of a full recovery is much higher.

Background:health informatics have bene used in the field healthcare for quite a long time. Research investigations have since been conducted to examine various features around the use and application of health informatics. However, there is an apparent gap in the current literature in regard to comprehensive information about the effect of health informatics on the healthcare workers’ practices in Saudi German Hospital, Jeddah. Aim: the aim of this research was to evaluate the implication of health informatics on the healthcare workers’ activities in Saudi German Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Methods: this study applied cross-sectional quantitative research design. Upon seeking and receiving the ethical approval, a sample of 123 sample of healthcare workers in Saudi German Hospital, Jeddah were recruited for data collection. Henceforth, data was collected using survey questionnaires, to which 105 (85.3%) responses were received. The collected data was then analyzed using three statistical tools of SPSS, including the descriptive statistics, Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient, multiple linear regression and multiple analysis of variance. Results: this study found out that health informatics has two critical roles regarding the healthcare workers practices. This was indicated by 40.9% of the participants who strongly agreed that health informatics augments quality of healthcare services delivery and 41.9% of the participants who strongly agreed that health informatics enhances information quality. This study further established that health informatics has a statistically significant impact on the quality of patient care (r=502; p=.000), health workers competencies (r=522; p=.000), and patient safety (r=457; p=.000). Further, this research also observed that the perceived roles of health informatics was had statistically significant association with the healthcare workers’ age (p=.023) and education level (p=.033). Recommendation: there is a need for the healthcare administrations units to intensify the use of health informatics to improve the quality of healthcare service delivery as a function of the healthcare workers.

This article explores the impact of transformative theory on the learning outcomes of seven Saudi female student-teachers enrolled in a Master’s TESOL course at a Saudi university. They were actively engaged in designing learning materials for learners with special needs. In this intervention, transformative theory principles were used. They involved dialogue, authentic assessment, and structured reflection. Following the intervention, data were collected using focus group discussions and document analysis. The data were analysed using Mezirow’s transformative theory components: experience, critical reflection, reflective discourse, and action. The findings reveal the experience supported the participants’ autonomy, providing them with opportunities to reflect on their teaching practices, and improved their knowledge construction skills. Based on the results, the author makes a case for greater use of transformative theory approaches in designing and implementing teacher education.

Background: The frequent use of antimicrobial agents to treat infections in diabetic patients make them more drug resistant than non-diabetic patients, which accounts for a higher mortality rate of diabetic patients. Therefore, it is a necessity today to synthesize new drugs with dual modes of action as antidiabetic and antibacterial agents. In the present work, new derivatives containing thiazolidinedione and 1,3,4-oxadiaozle have been synthesized and screened for PPAR-γ and antibacterial activities. Methods: Compounds 5-12 have been synthesized from 2-methoxy benzaldehyde and thiazolidinedione and characterized using different spectroscopic techniques such as IR, NMR, and mass spectrometry. These compounds were tested for in vitro PPAR-γ transactivation, PPAR-γ gene expression, and antibacterial activities. Finally, molecular docking was carried out to see the binding interactions of molecules with the target protein. Results: All the compounds follow the Lipinski rule suggesting the synthesized derivatives have good drug-likeness properties. Compounds 11 and 12 exhibited promising PPAR-γ transactivation with 73.69% and 76.50%, respectively, as well as showed significant antibacterial activity with comparable MIC of 3.12 μg/disc to standard drug amoxicillin. The docking result was found to be consistent with the in vitro PPAR-γ transactivation results. Conclusion: Compounds 11 and 12 can be further investigated as lead molecules for the development of new and effective antidiabetic and antibacterial agents.

Sports are associated with an increased risk of lower limbs injury that may significantly impact the quality of life for the athletes and negatively affected several functions of individuals for many years. For this reason, several injury preventions programs have been developed. These programs involved exercises that focused on core stability, balance, stretching, and strengthening. The Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center (OSTRC) Knee Injury Prevention Program is an evidence-based injury prevention program designed and developed to prevent knee injuries. The implementation of injury prevention programs is a challenge in sports medicine. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to assess the implementation of the OSTRC Knee Injury Prevention Program among professional basketball, handball, soccer, and volleyball players in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries. An online questionnaire to investigate the implementation of the program was dismissed to 500 professional players. A total of 433 players responded to the survey with a response rate of 86.6%. Basketball was the most practiced sport reported 119 (27.5%), followed by handball 109 (25.2%), then soccer 102 (23.6%), and volleyball 103 (23.8%). The highest percentage of participants were from UAE 79 (18.2%), and Saudi Arabia 78 (18%), followed by Oman 76 (17.6%), whereas an equal percentage of athletes participated from Bahrain and Qatar; 67 (15.5%), the least percentage was recorded from Kuwait 66 (15.2%). The most common exercises performed by the participants were squat+ 229 (52.9%), Nordic hamstring 225 (52%), single-leg sideways hop 223 (51.5%), jumping lungs 218 (50.3%), and flyer 217 (50.1%). This study concluded that implementation of OSTRC knee injury prevention exercise was low among participants, and the implementation was not statistically different between different sports or GCC countries.

Acute upper limb ischemia (AULI) occurs less often than acute lower limb ischemia, contributing for even less than 5% of all limb ischemia instances. It is known to be rare vascular emergency with serious long-term effects if not treated promptly. Timely detection and localization of the arterial occlusion are critical for effective revascularization and limb salvage. Surgical procedure, most commonly embolectomy, has become the standard of care for embolic or thrombotic AULI. Vascular repair is synonymous with morbidity and death, which can be avoided in some circumstances. Nonsurgical options such as endovascular procedures, thrombolytic agents, and anticoagulation therapy continue to advance, but their function in upper extremity ischemia remains unclear. In this Review, we discuss causes and management of acute upper extremity ischemia. The paper concluded that longer symptoms mean greater likelihood of functional sequelae. Surgical management is the most commonly used and best treatment. It is also possible that conservative management is being underreported. The prognosis of upper extremity ischemia is related to prompt and appropriate treatment and is predictable based on initial serum LDH levels.

This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of upper limb musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and their association with smartphone addiction and smartphone usage among university students in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 313 university students aged 18 years and older who owned a smartphone and used it during the preceding 12 months participated in this cross-sectional study. The prevalence of upper limb MSDs, smartphone addiction/overuse, and levels of physical activity were recorded using the standardized Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire, the smartphone addiction scale (short version), and the international physical activity questionnaire (short form), respectively. Data collection was performed on campus between March and May 2021. Binary logistic regression was used to determine the association between the prevalence of upper limb MSDs and smartphone addiction/overuse and levels of physical activity. The 12-month prevalence of MSDs of the shoulder, elbow, and wrist/hand regions due to smartphone use among participants was found to be 20.13%, 5.11%, and 13.42%, respectively. Shoulder (odds ratio (OR) = 11.39, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 4.64–27.94, p < 0.001), elbow (OR = 15.38, 95% CI = 1.92–123.26, p = 0.01), and wrist/hand MSDs (OR = 7.65, 95% CI = 2.75–21.22, p < 0.001) were more prevalent among participants who were categorized as having smartphone addiction/overuse measures. Promoting awareness about the healthy use of smartphones, including postural education and decreasing screen time, is necessary to reduce smartphone-related MSDs.

Vancomycin administration in individuals with hematological malignancy or neutropenia is associated with a suboptimal trough concentration. Nonetheless, most studies did not distinguish whether low vancomycin trough concentrations were due to hematological malignancies or neutropenia. This study aimed to determine the association between types of hematological malignancy and febrile neutropenia with low vancomycin concentrations.The present retrospective chart review study was conducted by using clinical data adopted from computerized physician order entries (BestCare®) for all of the patients who received intravenous vancomycin treatment between January 2017 and December 2020 at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Jeddah.Out of the 296 patients, 217 were included. There was no significant association between the type of hematological malignancy and the incidence of a low trough concentration (p0.05), while a significant association between febrile neutropenia and the incidence of a low trough concentration was observed (p0.05). Furthermore, the predictors for a low trough among febrile neutropenic patients were creatinine clearance (CrCI) and a low albumin concentration. In addition, there was a significant association between febrile neutropenia and augmented renal clearance (p0.05).The findings of this study conclude that febrile neutropenia is associated with low vancomycin concentrations. Interestingly, augmented renal clearance was observed in most of the febrile neutropenia patients with a significant association, which is considered the main driver for a low trough in neutropenic patients.
