Reference tracking systems involve a plant that is stabilized by a local feedback controller and a command center that indicates the reference set-point the plant should follow. Typically, these systems are subject to limitations such as disturbances, systems delays, constraints, uncertainties, underperforming controllers, and unmodeled parameters that do not allow them to achieve the desired performance. In situations where it is not possible to redesign the inner-loop system, it is usual to incorporate an outer-loop control that instructs the system to follow a modified reference path such that the resultant path is close to the ideal one. Typically, strategies to design the outer-loop control need to know a model of the system, which can be an unfeasible task. In this paper, we propose a framework based on deep reinforcement learning that can learn a policy to generate a modified reference that improves the system's performance in a non-invasive and model-free fashion. To illustrate the effectiveness of our approach, we present two challenging cases in engineering: a flight control with a pilot model that includes human reaction delays, and a mean-field control problem for a massive number of space-heating devices. The proposed strategy successfully designs a reference signal that works even in situations that were not seen during the learning process.

Els processos migratoris produïts a Catalunya en els últims anys han causat que cada vegada hi hagi més heterogeneïtat identitària, lingüística, cultural i ètnica a les escoles. Els objectius d’aquesta recerca són conèixer la realitat de l’acollida dels alumnes nouvinguts d’una escola concertada de Barcelona, i elaborar un recurs alternatiu a l’aula d’acollida que proporcioni eines als docents per garantir l’equitat i la igualtat d’oportunitats d’aquests alumnes. Per dur-la a terme s’ha realitzat una entrevista a l’Equip d’Orientació Educativa, format per una psicòloga i una psicopedagoga, i a deu membres de l’Equip docent que s’encarreguen de l’acollida dels alumnes nouvinguts del centre. Els resultats obtinguts mostren que els professionals de l’escola no tenen les eines suficients per oferir la millor acollida pels alumnes nouvinguts. A més, tampoc tenen una formació específica i això els dificulta poder atendre de manera adequada les necessitats d’aquests infants. Com a conclusió d’aquesta recerca després dels resultats obtinguts, s’ha creat un blog amb recursos per oferir eines als docents i alumnes per l’ensenyament i l’aprenentatge del Català. The migration processes produced in Catalonia during the last years, have caused an identity-related, linguistic, cultural and ethnic diversity in Catalan schools. The aim of this research is to determine the reception of newcomer students’ reality in a private school from Barcelona. Also to assure equity and equally opportunities through an alternative teaching resource to the reception classroom. To achieve this goal, some interviews have been elaborated to the school's Educational Orientation Team and ten teachers that are in charge of the reception of newcomer students. The obtained outputs show that school's teachers have not enough resources, not even, an specific formation for dealing these cases. Which means a barrier in the learning process and needs, for these students. In conclusion, taking into consideration the previous results, a blog has been made to offer newcomer students and teachers Catalan learning tools.

During the pandemic older people saw transformations in their social connections due to lockdowns and other restrictions. Technology provided one mechanism for them to stay connected with others, but technology may not be accessible or desirable for everyone. Gender, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, age and other factors enhance or limit engagement with technology. This project explored experiences of older people in Mexico and Scotland during the pandemic and examined the potential of everyday technology to help maintain social connectedness. A mixed methods approach included secondary analysis of large-scale datasets alongside primary data. Online semi-structured interviews and focus groups were carried out with 36 older people in Mexico and 23 older people in Scotland. Sampling was purposeful creating a diverse sample across age, gender, ethnicity and socioeconomic status. The findings demonstrate that advantages and disadvantages accumulated in the life course determine how older people select, optimize and compensate for new ways of staying socially connected during the pandemic in both countries. The use of technologies among older people is further mediated by structural inequalities with differences found between Mexico and Scotland in specific patterns identified. Further, stereotypes about older age and technology use are obstacles to the use of technology, as they affect the perception of self-efficacy by older people. Despite the obstacles, this study has shown that older people have a broad range of resources that have enabled them to cope with the pandemic and utilise technology to maintain social connections. The project offers recommendations to support older people’s human rights.

Maria-Jesus Corrales-Arroyo, Maria Angeles Del Real-Francia, Amalia Hernandez-Gonzalez, Gema Lopez-Gallardo, Jose Manuel Morales Puebla, Juan Jose Caston-Osorio Streptococcus suis is a coccus Gram positive, anaerobic optional. Human infection by this microorganism is a zoonotic disease that usually presents as purulent meningitis. Mortality is low but is common sequelae. A case of meningitis by S. suis secondary to contact with pigs is presented here. A 35-year-old male patient was admitted to the hospital complaining of high fever, malaise, vomiting and headache. A physical examination revealed decreased level of consciousness, with adequate response to painful stimulus and his eyes with deconjugated gaze. S. suis was isolated in blood culture. He was treated with cefotaxime, vancomycin and acyclovir in the intensive care unit. He experienced progressive improvement. He was discharged with severe deafness and a minimally unstable gait as sequellae.

Microdeletions of the 2q31.1 region are rare. We present the clinical and molecular findings of eight previously unreported patients with overlapping deletions in 2q31.1. The patients have a variable clinical phenotype and present with developmental delay (7/8), growth retardation (5/8), seizures (2/8) and a craniofacial dysmorphism consisting of microcephaly (4/8), short palpebral fissures (7/8), broad eyebrows with lateral flare (7/8), low-set ears with thickened helices and lobules (5/8), and micrognathia (6/8). Additional congenital anomalies were noted, including limb abnormalities (8/8), heart defects (3/8), genital anomalies (3/8), and craniosynostosis (1/8). Six of these microdeletions, ranging in size from 1.24 to 8.35 Mb, were identified by array CGH, one larger deletion (19.7 Mb) was detected by conventional karyotyping and further characterized by array CGH analysis. The smallest region of overlap in all eight patients spans at most 88 kb and includes only the WIPF1 gene. This gene codes for the WAS/WASL interacting protein family member 1. The patients described here do not present with clinical signs of the Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome and the deletion of this single gene does not allow explaining the phenotype in our patients. It is likely that the deletion of different but overlapping sets of genes from 2q31 is responsible for the clinical variability in these patients. To further dissect the complex phenotype associated with deletions in 2q31, additional patients with overlapping phenotypes should be examined with array CGH. This should help to link particular phenotypes to specific genes, and add to our understanding of the underlying developmental processes.

e21683 Background: Reported rates of FN with docetaxel (DTX) in PC patients are variable. This creates uncertainty regard the use of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor primary prophylaxis (G-CSF) in this setting. We conducted a meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials to determine the relative risk (RR) of FN in patients receiving DTX. Methods: To perform this analysis we systematically searched in PUBMED and MEDLINE database the following terms: “DTX”, “randomized clinical trial” and “prostate cancer” only for articles published between January 1996 and August 2016. Phase II-III clinical studies comparing DTX to non-DTX control arms (best supportive care [BSC] including non-cytotoxic therapy or mitoxantrone) for PC were included. The meta-analyses were performed by computing RRs with 95% confidence intervals (CI) using fixed-effects model with the Mantel-Haenszel method. Results: Seven studies (N = 5088 patients) were included. The global incidence of FN in patients treated with DTX was 10.7%. The RR of FN was higher in patients receiving DTX compared to patients did not receive DTX (RR 16.8 [95% CI 10.7; 26.4] p < 0.0001). 6.6% of patients with metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) treated with DTX developed FN, the RR of FN with DTX compared to mitoxantrone was 28.6 (95% CI 5.6; 145.1). 12.4% of patients with hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (HSPC) treated with DTX developed FN, the RR of FN was 15.3 (95% CI 9.6; 24.6) compared to BSC. There was no statistically significant differences in the rate of FN according to the hormone sensitivity (HSPC vs CRPC) (p = 0.7). In most studies the use of G-CSF was at the discretion of the investigator. Conclusions: This meta-analysis shows that DTX is associated with a significant increase in the relative risk of FN in patients with PC. The effectiveness of primary prophylactic G-CSF in this setting has not been fully established. The incidence reported here does not meet the threshold recommended by ESMO and ASCO guidelines for the use of prophylactic G-CSF. Special attention should be given to high risk groups for FN, including elderly patients and those with bone marrow involvement or previous radiotherapy/chemotherapy.

La tomografía se ha introducido recientemente en la velocimetría de fluidos para proporcionar información en tres dimensiones de la localización de partículas en el seno de fluidos. En concreto, algunos trabajos previos han probado el potencial de la Tomografía Óptica Difraccional en este campo. En general, los métodos de reconstrucción en longitudes de ondas visibles tienen que tener en cuenta la difracción. La Primera Aproximación de Born (aproximación lineal) se ha utilizado para la reconstrucción 3D de imágenes, pero un método no lineal de reconstrucción es necesario cuando la dispersión múltiple no es despreciable. Por lo tanto, si nuestro interés se centra en el desarrollo de técnicas alta precisión de velocimetría de fluidos, una estrategia interesante consiste en incluir en los fluidos un conjunto de partículas sembradoras cuya posición se puede determinar mediante TOD pero el proceso de reconstrucción debe considerar los campos dispersados. En este trabajo se describe una optimización iterativa no lineal para localizar las partículas sembradoras y computar después el campo de velocidad del fluido y, por tanto, métodos de reconstrucción no lineales. Este método de inversión requiere la resolución de la ecuación de Helmholtz, con una alta demanda computacional relacionada con el tamaño del problema. Por lo tanto, la computación de altas prestaciones se hace imprescindible para la solución de este tipo de problemas. Este trabajo muestra los resultados de acelerar esta técnica de reconstrucción utilizando la computación con GPUs y un formato adaptado a las características de la matriz involucrada en la ecuación de Helmholtz. This study was designed to determine the effects of residual water irrigation on the rate and percentage of germination of grass seeds. Germination tests were carried out to compare the seeds irrigated with recycling waste water with seeds irrigated with distilled water. Test with Festuca arundinacea Sch. and Agrostis tenuis L. seeds was performed under laboratory conditions. Parameters used to evaluate germination were: number of germinated seeds (Gmax), mean germination time (MGT), the time required for 1 to 75%, of the seeds to germinate (T1, T10, T25, T50 and T75). The evaluated parameters for both seeds irrigated with recycled waste water were below the control seeds parameters. These reductions involve that germination rate was increased. Recycling waste water could be used for irrigation of grass seeds because produces a beneficial effect in germination rate and percentage.

El proceso diagnóstico en los trastornos del espectro autista (TEA) es una actividad que requiere especialización y experiencia, tanto en relación al conocimiento del autismo como para trabajar en equipo con diferentes profesionales, muchas veces adscritos a distintos servicios clínicos, y con las familias. Objetivo. Recomendar un protocolo diagnóstico consensuado por el Grupo de Estudio del Instituto de Salud Carlos III. Desarrollo. Se enfatiza la necesidad de obtener una historia clínica adecuada, para lo que se han de recoger antecedentes personales, familiares y psicosociales, y detallar los ámbitos básicos afectados en los TEA: interacción social, comunicación y patrones restringidos de comportamiento, actividades e intereses. Asimismo, se recogen y analizan las pruebas diagnósticas (tanto de carácter psicoevolutivo como biomédico) que deben realizarse en todos los casos, y se contemplan paralelamente las pruebas indicadas en caso de sospecha de otros trastornos físicos identificables y aquellas pruebas médicas que deben considerarse únicamente para la investigación. Conclusiones. El procedimiento diagnóstico requiere una estrategia de evaluación coordinada de carácter multidisciplinar, que asegure la participación de especialistas de muy distintos campos en activa colaboración con la familia; dicha labor coordinada tendría su colofón en la elaboración y entrega de un informe personalizado. Todo diagnóstico se ha de acompañar de un plan de acción que incluya el apoyo inmediato a la persona con TEA y la provisión de información a su familia sobre recursos e iniciativas comunitarias en su zona. The autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnostic process requires expertise both in the knowledge of autism as in teamwork strategies with different professionals, often working in different clinic services, and with parents. Aim. To recommend a consensus diagnostic procedure for ASD, that has been designed by the Study Group of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III. Development. The reports emphasize the need to obtain a complete clinical history, covering personal, family and psychosocial antecedents; detailing the basic areas affected in ASD –social interaction, communication and restricted patterns of behaviour, activities and interests–. Diagnostic tests to be used as a routine in all cases are described and analysed –including both psychoeducational and biomedical tests–. Also, tests indicated in cases with suspected identifiable physical disorders are covered, as well as those medical tests to be used for research purposes only. Conclusion. The diagnostic procedure requires the implementation of a coordinated interdisciplinary assessment strategy, that needs to ensure the participation of professionals from very different fields in active collaboration with the family. Their role culminates in the preparation and delivery of a personalized report. Every diagnostic procedure needs to be accompanied by an action plan that includes immediate support to the person with ASD, as well as information to the family on resources and community initiatives in their living area.
